The reason I can't give it five stars is because I just didn't have a ton of faith that they know exactly what they're doing with haircuts, especially on Golden Retrievers. They wanted to know which clipper length they should use. Well, I'm not the groomer; I haven't the slightest clue. I feel like they should have an idea? When pressed, they gave me the option of leaving it long or shaving him down. Surely, there are in between options. I know there are in between options because I get in between options only all the time with other groomers (?!?). They were very nice though. And I believe my puppers was well treated, which ultimately, is the MOST important. They called me the minute he was done, which I also very much appreciated. Based on my uploaded photos, you can tell I'm a regular here. I and my drama queen Pug Mochi love this place. I say drama queen because Pug Mochi has to act so dramatic during check-in. She kinda hates baths but during pick-up, she's always happy and hyper. We have been coming here ever since we moved from LA. This was the first doggie spa Pug Mochi had service within our new neighborhood and we stayed. We stayed because the price is reasonable. We stayed also because the management and the staff are friendly, caring, accommodating, and considerate. They always remember Mochi's name and greet her warmly. We also love the little touch of doggie bandana they put on Pug Mochi after the service. For some reason, my husband is always excited about the new bandana Pug Mochi comes with. Parking is easy but you may need to call way in advance to make an appointment. They are usually busy. I definitely recommend this spa. read more

My little baby has been going here since 2011. I love the way you make an appointment just like we do get our hair done so they only need to stay there as long as it takes to get groomed. They also have free roaming system based by the size of the dogs. The staff is amazing and friendly. read more

I absolutely LOVE this place and the people here. They treat our dogs and us like family. I started going to them almost 15 years ago, back when the owner ran the business out of her beautiful home. The property was large, peaceful and very welcoming for our dogs to stay at. Now they're at a small facility near other businesses, which is a bummer, but those who run it still welcome us each time. I have never had any problems and they always listen to our needs and answer all our questions. They have reasonable prices and unlike they're last location, there's always plenty of parking. I have used other grooming places before when they were closed during their move and found myself coming back to Taj Mapaw. Some places aren't as friendly and communicative as they are and put the dogs in separate crates. I like that they let the dogs walk around and interact because it gives them enrichment and our dogs have abandonment issues and crate anxiety. I was nervous leaving them for the very first time. I know there's always a risk with dogs getting along - I once had a tiny chi that was sweet as can be, but was very territorial and would suddenly growl at a dog out of nowhere. My current 2 dogs get along well - one is a nervous pee-er and the other hates getting her nails clipped and will squirm and whine a lot. The groomer's take great care of them. I don't know where I would go without them. I hope they'll be around for a very long time. read more

We needed a new groomer for our dogs and needed one fast! Luckily we found Taj Mapaw Spaw through Yelp and made an appointment to get our boys in right away. My dogs aren't typically excited about getting baths, but Dianne (the groomer) made the experience really nice for our dogs. I think they were a bit shy at first but warmed up to Dianne right away. When we picked up our dogs, they looked and smelled so good! They seemed comfortable and happy after their grooming appointment too. Usually when we drop off our dogs at other groomers, we know they might be there for most of the day. At Taj Mapaw Spaw, our boys were both groomed within a couple of hours! It's so nice to not have to worry about them waiting around in kennels all day! Prices are competitive (if not better) than other groomers in the area. The convenience is just an added bonus. This was such a nice, relaxed first appointment at our new groomer. And if our boys are happy, we're happy! read more

Our little 7 pound, toothless, deaf and nearly blind defenseless family member, Charlie, was mauled and killed today, February 18, 2023 at Taj Mapaw Dog Salon in Orange, CA. Obviously, if you have read my previous reviews, you know that I love Taj Mapaw. But, I wanted to do another update to talk about the boarding services! I recently put my house on the market, and my realtors really wanted people to be able to view my house at any time for the first week. That is hard to do with my dogs being here during the day. So, I turned to Taj Mapaw. I ended up leaving my dogs here Monday - Friday from about 8am to 6:30pm. My dogs LOVED it! I will admit the first day they were a little upset, probably thought I dropped them off for a bath and was never coming back. But by the end of the week I swear they didn't even want to come home with me! Dianne and her staff are wonderful people, true dog lovers. Your dog will not be crated, in fact, they will be free to roam as though it is their own home! I was told Hollywood and Almond loved staying in her house and laying on her couch. I am so glad that I know I have another alternative of somebody to babysit my dogs when I go on vacations. If you are looking for a wonderful boarding place, I cannot recommend Taj Mapaw enough! read more

I can't recommend this business highly enough. Janine and Gary are amazingly accommodating. I rescue dogs and often have those that are difficult because they have been abused and are scared. These sweet dog-loving people do everything to make my pups feel safe and comfortable, including holding them before and after grooming. Doggies went and got groomed and I think I've found their new groomer They don't use cages and hand dry them, which was my #1 concern. I was crazy dog mommy and they used the line I used to give parents when I was teaching swim: "I promise they'll be okay" They sat down with me for 10 minutes and talked to me about the doggies, asked what I wanted, and made sure I was super comfortable and happy. They got to do doggie daycare when they were done, which was included in the package. They texted me when doggies were ready which was awesome and made me weirdly happy they told me the dogs were awesome and loved playtime. I've never seen Gizmo fall asleep in this position in the car and Khloes never laid down, which proves they had an awesome time. I am so happy with the services we received and I definitely plan on making this our babies new home for grooming :) Side note: they have 3 doors before the actual door to make sure no doggies escape, since they're not caged. read more

Update: The owner offered a refund for the bad haircut and apologized. I asked for my dog to be scissor trimmed and for her neck and rear end to be cut down more then normal because it was long. When I picked her up, her neck was left totally long and her entire body was buzzed down to about 1/2 inch. They basically did the opposite of what I asked for. I had to pay and tip before I was even able to see her haircut otherwise I would have refused to pay. I will not be returning. read more

This is my third visit to this place and might be my last.... I cannot believe today's visit at this place, it seems their newer members (to me at least since I've last been there all different except the older employee Lady who's very nice like Diane the owner) I loved this place to pieces but today like I said, threw me off... Im the mommy of Trix. I was greeted by the same friendly lady I seen twice earlier (1. Dropped Trix off 2. Came back at 4:10 to see if he was ready and prepaid) when I came back to finally pick up Trix, the friendly Lady was explaining that my dog may have snagged his nail trying to escape from the tub. I said no problem.. he can be a handful. She walked to the back to see if he was ready ( yes he was since I got a call 3 mins before saying come pick him up). The lady who bathed my dog Trix could be heard raising her voice about my dog biting her. She came out asking if I was the mother, and that he must of caught one of his nails from when we was trying to escape of the tub. The was scratching to get out and that must be why she also mentioned that he is a handful because he moves alot and doesn't stay or listen.. She said he was difficult and even to dry.. Why no one notified me and I even stopped by before hand to see if all was okay. Last time he was to hyper, they called me for my other dog that i came to ca lm down... what was soo different this time?? Well, when she brought him out to me, she said he pees everywhere and won't stop ( which she was telling me over the phone when she called to tell me he was ready)? He's a dog.. he's marking his territory because the other non-neutered dog. Its okay to place him outside to to his thing or kennel him.. So, she had a yellow lesh when trying to explain how difficult he was and at the same time she was choking him!! I had to tell her twice to let him go.. so unprofessional. I've never encountered this before with Taj Mapaw. I left every uncomfortable with this visit. I took him straight to his vet (since he was 7 weeks old) .. I was told that his nails were bleeding like if someone tried cutting them and did too short since it hit a vein!! His paws were fine and they washed his paws thoroughly to check and apply a compound to completely stop the bleeding, which T.M attempted to do. One star knocked for the bathers rudeness and one star knocked because I should of been notified once he couldn't be handled, would of been more than happy to control him or take him home if too much for them to handle.. I love Diane's Taj Mapaw facility, I just don't know if I'll be coming back and allow that twig of a woman to touch my dog again. read more

Great place. Our pup has some separation anxiety so we're always a little anxious ourselves before trying a new place for grooming. We told the gentleman at the front desk about her anxiety and dropped her off for a bath and full haircut. We provided a picture of the haircut we wanted and they did a great job. Upon picking her up, he mentioned the groomer cut one of her nails too short so it might be sore. I appreciate transparency and understand things happen so this was not an issue at all. Our dog seemed happy when we picked her up and not overly anxious like she's been when I've picked her up from other groomers. The first (and last) time I took my baby to a "professional" groomer, she came back with butchered nails and vomited 7+ times. A full year later, we decided to give professional grooming another try after reading all of these amazing reviews about Taj Mapaw on Yelp. Mila's appointment was bright and early on a weekend. We drove into a beautiful house/mansion with the arboretum + garage turned into a wonderful doggie spa. When we walked in, we were greeted with a super nice groomer (I believe her name was Liz), a clean grooming/waiting area, and peaceful spa music. I loved the fact that there were no cages and that I was invited to wait and watch. Mila got the "clean up" package which includes a bath using the Hydro Surge bathing system, nails cut and filed with the doggie dremel, cleaning of ears, trimming of pads, expression of anal glands (to get rid of the fish sauce smell! yuck!), trimming of bum and peepee areas, facial trim (but we opted out of this one because Mila likes looking like Einstein), and a cute bandana. Regular price for the clean up package for a small, long-haired dog is $30. i got $10 off for being a first-time customer. Overall, Mila (and mommy) had a wonderful experience and we expect to be back soon. read more

Dear Taj Mapaw Spaw, I'm Frankie, you know me, the 9 month old puppy that comes over to play! I'm really smart (see how I can type with my paws) so I thought I'd update my Mommy's yelp while she's not looking. She really likes it when I surprise her with things like taking her socks or ripping an indestructible toy up in 3 minutes flat so I'm sure she'll love my yelping:) I've been coming over for doggie socialization (I just call it play-time) for a while now and I really love it. I run right in to see my friends as soon as I get in the door and don't even look back at my Mommy to say good bye. I play my little heart out and give out lots of kisses all day, then when I get picked up I am so tired. My Mommy never has to worry about me being in a cage because I'm free to roam in the indoor and outdoor play areas, take a nap in any of the available beds and sometimes I even hang out in the house! I also spend the night sometimes (my Mommy calls it boarding). The only other place I could feel more at home would be...well...at home! They let me snuggle, cover me up with blankets when I'm sleepy and of course let me play all around the house. They feed me my food and make me sleep in my crate at night because those are my family's rules and I have a great old time. Dianne even sends videos of me so my family can see what I'm up to! Boarding is $45/night but I don't really worry about money because I'm a cute dog and totally worth it! Anyway, thanks Taj Mapaw Spaw for taking such great care of me and for helping me learn to be a dog that plays nice with other dogs. Can't wait to see you all soon! I am really sad to have to write an update to downgrade TMS. I've brought JoJo back here many times in the last 1 1/2 year, but he came home with a haircut that looked like some kid just had some fun with his face, it's not funny. The last haircut was not pretty, either, but I thought maybe it was just a bad 'hair' day. But twice in a row is a bit upsetting. Sorry Dianne, you probably didn't give JoJo the hair cut, but whoever did really needs some more training on how to trim the hair around the face. JoJo's hair (around his face) was all crooked and instead of a round face, he now has a square face. Luckily he is a dog not a human because I doubt he'd walk out of the house with that haircut. read more

My Lhasa Apso, Kenobi, absolutely loves it here! We always have a positive experience at Taj. The venue is always spotless... warm and inviting. Many times I've arrived, one or two dogs are off their leash lounging in the waiting area on one of the dog beds available... often friendly and calm. Full service covers wash, body/face cut, nails trimmed, ears cleaned, express. Teeth cleaning is an add'tl cost of $5. Our first visit, they were very thorough about explaining the process and inquiring in what kind of cut I'd like for Kenobi. Kenobi's haircuts have always turned out great! read more

This dog groomer is located inside of somebody's house (well, it's more of a mansion), which is kind of confusing. The spaw is located through an easy-to-find back entrance once you park in the lot. The people that work here are super nice and obviously dog lovers...not your typical teenager-working-a-summer-job at Petco. I've taken my dog here a few times, and have loved the results! The prices are very reasonable...for ~$20 I got a wash, trim (including the hair inside the paws and toenails clipped), and anal gland expression (gross.). They even put some "doggy perfume" on her and send her out with a new little bandana each time. My dog is very timid, but she actually enjoys being here and seems really relaxed (which is interesting, since she hates baths). I'm very happy with Taj Mapaw and will continue to bring my little doggy back! read more

LOVE LOVE LOVE Taj Mapaw Spaw!! This was our first visit. I have to thank Yelp for the info on this spot. After reading all the awesome reviews, I had to give it a try. I had an idea of where to go from instructions given by other reviewers and I, of course, Googled it. Having said that, when I called to make the appointment Diane was very instructive on how to find my way. I had no problem finding it! Diane is so super nice and her girls are just as sweet. Everyone was so nice to Muffin. She is half poodle and half chihuahua so she really needs to be groomed every 6 weeks like clock work. All the girls were so nice that I didn't feel strange about leaving my little pooper there. I also love that Diane goes over the cut and style with you by actually pulling out the clippers and going to work on a small patch to give you an idea. I also love that everyone there was constantly reassuring Muffin so that she would feel comfortable (she is a little timid). The grooming was awesome. I took our shih-tzu Mamas here for the first time and it was a great experience. I had a morning appointment so we were the first ones there. The owner Diane came out to greet us and she was getting to know my baby as I filled out some paperwork. Unfortunately Mamas was on edge (prob because she had 3 shots the day before) and got snappy with Diane - it took a few minutes of us just hanging out for Mamas to be relaxed but Diane was great with her. She showed me their awesome doggy daycare area - they have sectioned "playpens" for dogs that aren't fixed or those with anxiety but also a play area in the middle of the room. You get 90 minutes of free daycare with a groom and I loved knowing that my dog wouldn't be caged up while she waited to be picked up. I went to work after dropping her off so my dad went to get her - it was about 2 hours for the full groom on a small dog. Since I wanted to see how she behaved I called and Diane was very honest with me; she told me Mamas didn't like the clippers on her face but they were able to trim her up with scissors. I think it looks good for the trouble she gave them. Diane also mentioned that at first Mamas was in her own "playpen" but when she seemed comfortable with the other pups they let her roam the play area - sounds like she made some friends! My dad immediately noticed that she was happy and alert, not groggy with that drugged-look she had after leaving our previous groomer. I'm definitely a satisfied customer and I'll be bringing her back. The prices are comparable to other groomers and I don't mind paying a little extra for the spaw treatment ;) Thank you Taj Mapaw!! I want to start saying my pooch is my fur baby. She has always been trimmed in someone's house and isnt a huge fan of other dogs. So naturally I was very nervous bringing her to any brick and mortar groomer. Taj Mapaw is very clean and dogs seem to be happy playing in the main area together. I was very happy to see that they had pens for shy dogs. My dog definitely preferred being by herself but able to smell and see the other dogs. They gave her water and had a nice little bed in there for her. Her cut was great! Although she wanted to leave immediately she wasn't unhappy. Based on that, I will be back. Reason for my 4 stars, is having an appointment at 8am I expected that to be honored. Apparently everyone was running late that morning and about 3 of us customers were waiting for them to open. I would assume this doesn't happen often but it isn't good business to have appointments and open 20 minutes late with no groomer on site just the front desk. Also, I wish they would answer their phone during business hours especially when my dog is there in case of emergency or a check on how she is doing. read more

I've been bringing my golden doodle to the Spaw for many years and we love it! We've had terrible experiences at other groomers when he was young, and I was traumatized that everyone just wanted to shave him to the skin. We finally found Dianne and TMS and Kramer loves coming here! I used to have to drag him across the parking lot, but no more. He jumps in the car and is so excited when I say bath time, and practically drags me to the front door now!
