I have been to Taj many times and just haven't reviewed. The service is wonderful. The owners are welcoming and treat you like family. I am picky with Indian food and I have found Taj to be the best Indian food in Macon. Their lunch talli has the best variety. I love the tamarind and mint chutney sauces they give. Everything here is absolutely delicious. This is my favorite Indian restaurant. The owners are very friendly and accommodating. The food is all fresh and made to order. The restaurant was recently renovated and has been updated. The inside now looks great. They have a thali special that I have attached a picture of. You can get either chicken or vegetarian. This is a review based on multiple dining experiences here. I have to go to Macon once a week, so every time I do, this is my go-to choice. I go vegetarian in Lent, so this is an especially good option for eating out at that time, but their menu items with meat are also great. Seriously, everything I've gotten here, from the dhal to the chana masala to the melt-in-your-mouth delicious goat curry is spectacular. They're nice enough that the first time I indicated that on a scale of mild to India Spicy, I wanted India Spicy they verified to make sure. The food is delicious, the service is quick, and the staff are friendly. Wow. So happy to have stumbled in to this little gem. Owners are so kind and helpful. So attentive. This is some of the best Indian cuisine I've had in a while. I have been missing ethnic food since moving to GA from NC. I can't always just run up to Atlanta or down to Warner Robins. I got some pretty basic dishes this first time, but I KNOW, next time I am going all out. Restaurant is clean, comfy, owners again, are wonderful. We stopped in and had a wonderful Chicken Makhni (Butter Chicken) and Garlic Naan. The Garlic Naan was an especial joy! Clearly the chef was my garlic loving brother by a garlic loving mother - just covered in the stuff! Yum yum! Service as good, when we walked in the door, they turned on the air. So that was nice. Now the bad. For the love of god, don't use the men's room. It'll make you have doubts about what the cleanliness of the kitchen might be. The thousand and one faces of god all turn away from that bathroom (and the hall leading to it ain't much better) in shame and despair. Seriously, it came with a complimentary mosquito that I had to fend off as I was doing my business. Folks. Always read reviews of the restaurant that you're going into. This is not my first time in this restaurant but this time I was very disappointed. I ordered Lamb Vindaloo, and on my first bite I felt kind gross out the meat was kind off old( cooked twice)/left over and covered it with sauce. It's the smell of the sauce with bleachy smell. Saturday afternoon, about 1:30pm. An old strip mall. A hole in the wall restaurant. Sometimes those places are the best. In my opinion this place wasn't the best. It's a restaurant, and the most important thing is the food. The food here was actually pretty good. I'm no expert on Indian food, but I enjoyed my meal. Had an order of jalapeño pakora for an appetizer, which I enjoyed in conjunction with the spicy green chutney served with the popadoms. The peppers weren't really that spicy, but you never know with jalapeños. The garlic nan was super good! Love that stuff. For my entree, I had lamb vindaloo. I enjoyed it as well with one exception. I asked for it to be spicy, a 7 on a1-10 scale. If they put any extra spice I couldn't tell. This leads me to my rating of just ok. It seems like a family place, which can be great. I reckon if I was a regular not some guy off the street things may have been different. But the service was uneven at best. Order was taken fairly promptly. Got a refill or two on my water, but towards the end of the meal my glass sat empty. In fact after checking in once after receiving meal there was no other service interaction. Meanwhile the owners?/servers sat a few tables away chatting with a friend. Nothing wrong with that, but totally ignoring a paying customer isn't optimal. Granted, if I actually needed something I could have simply flagged them down. Perhaps a cultural difference. After my meal and some conversation. I began to wonder about the check. No check was ever delivered to the table. We simply got up and walked to the counter. Stood there too long waiting for the guy to come take our money. Again, a cultural difference? I know not. So while the food was pretty good, the service was lacking in my opinion. But there aren't a whole lot of Indian food places around, so if I was In the area and had a hankering I try it again. read more

Just ate here, all I can say Awesome!!!! Chicken Bryani was so tasty with the aroma coming from the cinnamon basmati rice and then the right touch of spice in the Bryani sauce was so good. Bread basket of garlic Naan was so chewy but soft prefect taste of the crispy edges, scooping up the chicken and rice soaking up that sauce. Man is was good ! Passing through Macon found this great Indian restauran. Food was deliciou. I had the lamb Korma and hubby had Lamb Tandoor. The lamb was tender and free of fat and gristle. Sauces were spot on. Glad the server asked how spicy we like it. Mine was mild and hubby asked for medium spice and he was sweating . Garlic Naan bread was an excellent addition. HIDDEN GEM! Found this place on the way home from Christmas. Wow! We got Chicken tikka masala, biryani, garlic Naan, onion chutney and raita. Honestly the best biryani & chutney I've ever eaten. IN MACON GEORGIA. I'm very pleasantly shocked. The bathrooms were pretty dirty. The whole place could've used a little more wipe down but the food was so deng good I couldn't even take any stars off. I, personally, love this place. I have had every single Indian food in the area and this is the best place. Hands down. They make the food sufficiently spicy, especially if you request it "Indian spicy". I have had quite a but of dishes here but the best one is the chicken Tikka masala. It is not too creamy since a lot of places in the area use too much cream and make the dish dense. It has a beautiful balance with tomato and spices. I also thoroughly enjoy the paneer pakora and the vegetable samosas. Both have warm tones and the pakora comes with tasty dipping sauces. read more

A buffet Indian restaurant! I loved that they had Vegitarian and meat choices which were separated on the line. They were very attentive and ready to answer any questions and get anything that was needed. I also did enjoy that they brought the bread to the table instead of having it on the line. This was by far the best Indian I've had! If you are driving near Macon, Ga, check out Taj Indian. We had the Chicken Tikka Masala because it was highly recommended by others on Yelp, and because we love it. We were not disappointed. We also had the Tandoori Chicken, which was served on a steaming, sizzling platter. The man (I think maybe the owner) even asked our spicy level preferences. We went with number7-8 ish, and will go hotter next time, but he seemed pleased that we like spicy food. He also suggested we try the garlic Naan and that was a game changer! Thank you again, Sir. First of all let me say what I ate was terrific. Here's the rub. The waiter, although incredibly hard for me to understand basically told me/talked me out of having the chicken tikka. His reasoning.... "it's dry, no sauce " Soooooo you don't want me to order it because it's late in the day and it's a pain in the ass to make? That's the feeling I got but the language barrier was too extreme to overcome the understanding of exactly why he did not want me to order it. I had the chicken Marsala which was terrific but a very odd experience. He didn't check on me again and was yakking it up with his fellow countryman who came in after me. Bad waiter/owner? My husband and I had an awesome experience. We came in the middle of the lull between lunch and dinner but still got top-notch service. When the owner found out we had just gotten out of a prenatal doc appointment he immediately adopted our unborn baby as a nephew. He was so friendly and helpful. The food was DELICIOUS. I had been craving Indian food for weeks and this place just sent me through the roof. Everything we tasted was so good including the traditional chai tea and mango juice. FIRST OFF, the service was terrible and the owner was so DISRESPECTFUL They asked us to "pick up our plates" and give it to him. We felt so unwelcome and unwanted. Also, the server was very bias. He talked to us rudely. We asked him for slice of lemon and he made everything complicated. He talked to us disrespectfully as well. The building itself looked like it needed a renovation. Bathrooms are supposed to make you clean, but this one made me feel dirtier than when i came inside. The whole thing stank of urine. Everything was just a mess. And in the slight chance that there is some type of flavor, it's completely wrong! Like for instance the biryani tastes nothing like biryani, and the vegetables in there tastes old and hard.
