We ordered takeaway and it was great! Lamb Korma really hit the spot. We added the Samosa Chaat as an extra to try something new and it's now a new favourite (it's like an Indian nachos). This is now our firm go to Indian place in Barrie. read more

My review is based on a single takeout in March 2023. We ordered 2 butter chickens, 1 chicken tikka masala, 3 garlic naans, and 1 plain rice. Both butter chicken and chicken tikka masala were very tasty and not oily. However, chicken breast was very dry and I would've preferred dark chicken thigh meat instead. The spices they use are good though. Both dishes were very tasty. Garlic naan was pretty bad. They were plain and flat, as opposed to fluffy and flavourful. I'm not sure if it has to do with their tandoor or not but I've had much better garlic naans elsewhere. Plain rice was nothing to write home about. I wish they added some garlic to add flavour but the price is right and the portion was enough for 6 people. Please note that a medium takeout container is pretty small. It's not big enough for multiple people. Please refer to the photo with my hand next to one for scale. Overall, this restaurant serves tasty Indian food, but they need to do something about their naans. I've tried better tasting naans that are fluffy and fresh. I know it can be done. It's a matter of will on the part of the chef and the owner. read more

Cute place but no liquor license. We went out for date night, so we missed that a little, but the food was fantastic and there was a constant stream of people picking up takeout, so that's a good sign! read more

my first order was great. My second order didn't come with half of the things it was supposed to. This last order the only vegetables in it were from a frozen bag from walmart. corn peas cut carrots and beans. What happened? your food was great months ago and now disgusting. The space is poorly arranged and there is a constant rumbling overhead from the vents which takes away from the experience of eating out. I have been here twice and I would say I feel ignored first arriving, it takes time before you are seated and even long we before a drink order I'd taken. What's annoying is that there is never anything in stock that's requested. Both occasions I have gone, drinks or foods are out of stock. The menus are confusing and they seat you with take out menus which are differently priced than eat in menus. Last, there is evidence all the food is premade and frozen - then warmed up to be served as they can make no change or adjustments to the orders as they are outlined on the menu. The food doesn't taste bad - definitely passable but given how expensive the dishes are for such small portions, there is much better and cost conscious food to be had around downtown Barrie. read more

Amaaazzing food! We have been in a few times before COVID and now order out. Biryani, vindaloo, butter chicken, bhajis, naan ...everything was great. Plus we ordered enough food for 8 adults then had mounds leftover and it was only $100. It was pickup not delivery. read more

I've been to Taj Bistro several times before. It's nice to have good Indian food in Barrie. Especially when it can also be done gluten free. Today I took a friend and we split several different dishes. Chicken Tikka Labadar, Vegetable Jalferezi, Shahi Paneer, and Daal Makhani. The dishes were all excellent, the service was top notch, and the place was very clean. The food had some Interesting touches to it. They added shredded mozzarella to the top of the chicken Labadar. The dishes had a good amount of fresh ginger, and the vegetable jalferezi had fresh shredded cabbage in it. I love cabbage. The shahi paneer was very delicious. The paneer was a soft paneer with a very nice cream tomato sauce. Paneer is not always my first choice, but this was a very good dish. They had both meat and veggie options. What more can you expect in Barrie. After spending whole afternoon snow tubing, search for indian food got us to Taj bistro. Owner of the restaurant is chef here so trust me food is great. Staff is really nice as we reached this place really late and we were a big group of 15. They took some time and managed to arrange table for us. Ambience is really great and staff suggestions were perfect as we almost ended up ordering same. We had Gali ki Aloo Tikki, Kadhai paneer , Biryani and dal makhani. I will surely come back here and recommend this place. read more

We catered our wedding from Taj Bistro. I have to say they were completely professional through out the process and helped to ensure we had a great day. More than enough food for everyone and everything was delicious. For appetizers we had chicken tikka and fish amritsar. For mains we had butter chicken, lamb khorma, channa masala and vegetable jalfrazi. For dessert we got the ras malai which was great too. read more

This would be a more "upscale" Indian restaurant. White linens, nice ambiance, second level...quite nice. Service is very good, proper, respectful, helpful, great place for a business meal. Not a big place, with a few cozy tables on the main floor, a few more on the mezzanine, and one of the smallest bathrooms I have been in outside of a plane. But the food is good. A starter app with mango chutney and a couple other flavourful dips really started the meal off right. A Masala Chai Tea for a beverage proves that this place is not using tea bags. The Naan is a bit drier and more "cracker like" than other places like my reference Bombay Bhel in Richmond Hill, but when you lather it up with garlic butter, it really comes alive. Water is served in heavy metal goblets. I haven't seen that anywhere else. I should have written this sooner, because I forgot what I had, but I do remember that is was excellent! The server was very careful to understand the level of heat that I wanted, and adjusted accordingly. I almost had to defend my meal from the ladies at the next table--I would have fought to the death! Great little Indian restaurant. The food is very nice and authentic, although a bit more bland then what I'm used to. I like spicy Indian food, and I guess the locals of Barrie don't like it overly spicy. Been here many times for the thali platter for lunch. The last time we frequented the establishment we had the mutton rogan gosht with butter chicken and chicken tikamasala . Everything was excellent and very fresh. Soooo yummy! This was our second visit to Taj Bistro and it was just as fabulous as the first time! Try the Aloo Chaat (potatoes, tomatoes & fresh herbs & spices) sooooo good! The chicken korma and Chana Marsala were fantastic. Just a heads up we ordered medium heat and I found it to be a bit more spicy then I like but it still tastes wonderful! Ordered finger foods from here for my party and it was wonderful! I love the flavours and the aroma from each dish. Haven't been back for a full dinner yet but definitely will. Food was ok, but sorry bit of a rip off when I got back to my hotel and found after spending $40 there was no rice. I've been eating Indian for years and never has rice not been included with my take out. Ordered baigan bharta and aloo Gobi mutter masala and garlic naan. Thank god I ordered the naan to soak up the curry sauce. But the manager never asked me if I wanted rice, so I was oblivious until I got back to my room and at which I wasn't going to go back out. Both dishes were ok as I said, but very sloppy. The aloo Gobi mutter is typically a little dry but not what I got which was very sloppy. Won't be back here for sure. As far as taste goes, the curry sauces were awesome and flavorful. Regret asking for mild as it had literally zero spice factor, but that's good if you have no spice tolerance at all. My main complaints is that the chicken in the butter chicken was a bit overlooked and dry, but the awesome sauce and delicious naan almost made up for that. Second complaint is that the portions were TINY compared to what they cost. For almost 15$, I expect a container of butter chicken to last at least two meals- however, I finished the whole portion (plus two slices of naan) with room for more. Similarly, they were stingy with the amount of meat put in each curry. Atmosphere is great, though. Swanky and a perfect place for a nice night out. read more

I would like to bring up customer service experience at Taj Bistro on my recent visit on a weekday evening. We were excited to celebrate my daughter's birthday, she specifically told me to take her to Taj as it was her favourite Indian restaurant in Barrie. Upon arrival, we (3 of us) were told that the restaurant is full, in spite of 4 tables (1 four seats & 3 with two seats) available. We were told that table with 4 seats is reserved. I asked if they can join or place a chair at table of 2, they said it will hinder their service. I literally pleaded to be seated as I didn't want to break my little princess's heart who had been planning to eat at Taj for weeks. Anyways, we ended eating up at a nearby restaurant, where we were treated well. I happen to return after 45 min to peek at the Taj, to my surprise the table of 4 was still vacant. On my previous visits too I noticed indifferent service, but always eaten there because my daughter liked their food. You lost a customer forever. Food is expensive; service is very pathetic and slow (based on my previous visits). read more

My wife is a huge fan of Indian food(I'm not), but I took my wife there to cheer her up after a bad day at work. This place was terrific! Beautiful, clean, great service, great food, and a huge menu to satisfy the most discerning of customers. It seemed you could literally order anything there( It looked like well over 100 menu items) but we tried a few Indian dishes that we thought I'd like; and I was really impressed with how fresh and tasty everything was. I'm definitely going back; and I'd never thought I'd ever say that about any Indian restaurant! read more
