Torn. I feel like it is really hit or miss. Been here a few times now. Food is okay, nothing too special, but not terrible. Mostly big portions of greasy pub food for the masses, nothing special or interesting on menu. Service is very slow, but that's mostly because everyone crowds in at once. read more

Went there tonight to try someplace new, I hadn't heard about it and kind of stumbled across it. They have 12 beers on tap, a nice selection of regional standards and microbrews. I was in the mood for a burger and ordered the Cowboy, a patty with lettuce, tomato, an onion ring and BBQ sauce. What I appreciated most was the beef patty was fresh, not a pre-frozen thing. Fresh ground beef makes all the difference. The bun was fresh and toasted and all the produce was fresh as well. The place was hopping so clearly other people were as satisfied as I. It's obvious that it's a new restaurant, the setup behind the bar isn't a polished as some places, there's no cooler to hold the beer glasses so don't expect a chilled glass. But right now that's small potatoes, the stuff they're doing right is the big stuff, I expect they'll button down the little things in time. read more

Big disappointment. Wings came out with some of them cold both times (two of us ordered them). When we mentioned it to the waiter he thanked us for the feedback but made no offer to have them sent back to be warmed up or done right. The service was absolutely terrible. My drink sat empty for three visits of the waiter dropping things off or passing by, and eventually I had to request a refill. When we first sat down it took ten minutes for him to come by and they weren't overly busy. I had the distinct impression that the waiter had never waited tables prior to this job, and it was all new to him. Also, $12.99 for 8 wings? Thank god it was game day and they were half off on special, but seriously, who charges $13 for 8 wings?!? The steak sliders were dry and had the smallest amount of a piece of cheese on each. This is my favorite place to go in town. The steak tips are the absolute best I've ever had in my whole life and the service is amazing. We went to a busy, more expensive place across the street one weekend to switch It up and we were so disappointed and just wanted to be back at Tailgate! This is my fiancé and I's GO TO place and you will not be upset if you get drinks and dinner here. So so good!!! read more

My boyfriend and I decided to try out Tailgate for dinner on a weeknight, we were optimistic going in as we really wanted to like it. We were promptly sat, as we were ordering we did have a few questions about the menu...the waitress had no clue and had to leave the table to inquire with the kitchen on something as basic as ingredients in their house marinade. It's not her fault though, management should require all employees to have basic menu knowledge before being on the floor. I ended up ordering the house steak tips accompanied by mashed potatoes and very bland steamed Brussels sprouts. My boyfriend ordered a plain cheese burger and fries. We both agreed that the fries and mashed potatoes were the best part of the meal. My tips were cooked inconsistently, I ordered medium rare and they ranged from rare to well done. My boyfriends burger ordered medium was WELL done and charred, on top of that it was the blandest burger I've ever tried. I didn't believe him on how bad it was until I had a bite for myself. We aren't ones to complain while we're out, but the waitress didn't even give us the chance to ask to have the burger fixed ( she didn't check back in until we were almost done) and we were hungry so we ate what we could and left. I am so glad that I returned for another try. As with any business, especially in the food service business, there is a learning curve. There always is an adjustment period with new wait staff, chefs cooking multiple new recipes and dish preparations on high demand and getting timing and presentation perfect. I admit, this was more than obvious during my first visit. However, being a Stratham resident and wanting to support our local business owners, I gave it another try......and have returned 8 times since. The menu is simple but the recipes are unique. Food is always fresh, delicious, filling, perfectly portioned and priced very reasonable. Tailgate Tavern is our new weekly eatery. We enjoy the family friendly environment, the smiling faces, attentive staff and of course, the convenient location. I encourage everyone to check it out if you haven't yet. And for those who have and weren't happy; go on....give it another whirl. read more

Since our 1 star post, we have given the Tavern a couple more chances as locals to the area. Happy to report that they take their feedback seriously, because the food and service have done a 180 shift. We came with the whole family and everyone's meals were great and it's definitely busier. The server was terrific and the manger checked on us and made us feel very welcome and appreciated as customers. Definitely will be back and thrilled for a nice casual hang out with yummy food and the TVs for sports! read more

Great food and good selection of beers. The downside is when one of the owners sits with a customer and has an in-depth conversation and they both drop the f bomb every other word. A big turn off. read more

It kills me to give this place 3 stars but the food has gone down hill to the point that all I will eat from there now are the apps. The drinks are good and the atmosphere is fun. But the food is just seriously lacking. It seems like they just boil everything, and nothing is seasoned. My favorite thing to order is the buffalo chicken dip which is good but the chips seem like they're from a bag, which is what most of the food there seems like to be honest. If you go, stick with drinks and apps! read more

Food was good, but service was terrible. Wait staff was friendly however slow to take orders and bring food/drinks. Waited almost an hour for food and one of the meals was incorrect. Other dinners finished their meals before the correct meal was delivered. I think they may be understaffed. Certainly would not recommend if you are in a hurry or have young kids. read more

Stopped by on a Sunday while the Patriots were on. There were seats at the bar so we took them. There were also plenty of tables available in the dining room area which was odd for a sports bar during a Pat's game. The smell of bbq sauce permeated the place. Not the end of the world but I personally was looking forward to seeing a menu in hopes there were other choices that didn't involve bbq. We sat directly in front of the beer taps. The bartender and another worker (manager maybe?) faced us while filling glasses of beer, however they never addressed us. Never offered us a menu or asked what we wanted. We waited 15 minutes and still nothing. Two seats opened up on the side so we moved to them in hopes for service and so the taps wouldn't be in our faces. The previous customer's trash hadn't been removed yet when we sat in our new seats. The bartender said "hi" (that was an improvement), handed us a menu (things were looking up), and walked away without taking the trash and literally poured a second round for people near our previous seats. What bartender or server leaves the trash in front of you and doesn't even offer water while you look at the menu??? We waited an additional 5 minutes without any service. Finally we walked away. We will not be back. It was crystal clear why there were so many empty tables and seats at the bar during a Patriot's game. read more
