Quality/Quantity - Something for everyone! For both locals and tourists; well the tourists I feel out number us.... Views of Lake Tahoe, Sierras, Washoe Lake (yes quite a ways of a hike), Incline Lake (I have not been yet), etc. Winter - Sledding, cross country, snow shoeing, hiking, snow mobile, etc. Summer - Hiking, biking, etc. The path is 1.4 miles with only a 78ft elevation. It should take you no more than an hour. Only certain parts of the trail are ADA friendly. And of course, feeding the chickadees; bird seeds only please!! Do NOT give them "human" food. They will literally eat out of your hands. A great experience for all ages. Overall, very easy trails. But if you want to keep going, there are more challenging ones that you can connect to. We do not come here often enough... Ambiance - Beautiful and user friendly! Road parking, be safe. And please do NOT run across 431, wait for NO traffic before crossing! A place to drop off your snow mobiles, etc. Oh, and now I am starting to see food trucks?!?! NO restrooms or services. Good place for hiking, or playing around in the snow. Nice place to snowshoe, cross-country ski, etc. great fun for the whole family, ample parking. I love Tahoe Meadows in the Winter. On one side of the highway, you can see people sledding and on the other side, there are various trails to Snowshoe through the forest. Most popular is Chickadee Ridge. Bring raw, unsalted Pine nuts or black-oil Sunflower seeds and be enchanted by Mountain Chickadees eating right out of your hand. Chickadee Ridge also offers spectacular views of Lake Tahoe. With the snow, there are many unofficial paths to get up to Chickadee Ridge, but the Nevada Nordic Trail System offers trails maintained and groomed for both Cross Country and Snow Shoeing. Great sledding! Be prepared to park on the side of the road and walk. Arrive early to get a good spot.

Chickadees! They eat from your hand! What a beautiful short hike. A lot of people bring their dogs snowshoeing but don't pick up after them. So watch out for landmines. The incline is gradual, so it's not too bad for little legs. Taking a sled can help with little legs when they get tired ( not uphill of course). read more

Gayle and I took a nice easy stroll through Tahoe Meadows a couple weeks ago. We drove up from the Reno side and the scenery on both sides of the pass were worth the trip alone. Great views, few people, and sunny and slightly cool weather made this a most pleasant outing. read more

Driven past this so many times as the St Rose trail with the parking lot on the opposite side of the road attracts the street attention. A 1.5 mile easy, almost flat loop trail that surrounds the boggy middle meadow. Very well maintained trail with a couple of toilets available to use in the large restroom building there. Didn't see any sinks so bring hand sanitizer. I appreciated the nature made stone love seat at the shaded half point mark of this relaxing loop trail. read more

Great free sledding spot, plenty of parking, and you got two sides you can choose from to sled

One of our favorite locations, any time of year. Went snowshoeing this time, not a lot of snow left, but enough to make your own tracks. It's a fairly short hike to Chickadee Ridge, moderate elevation gain (all down hill on the way back!) with multiple opportunities along the way to feed these little birds that have us humans well trained!. Make sure to bring bird seed and, if traveling with dogs, hopefully their well trained so as not to scare the chickadees away. Awesome views from the ridge down to Lake Tahoe and a definite addition to your Tahoe visit. Note: if you can, go during the week, a lot less crowded. read more

Hit this sledding spot for the first time on this beautiful first day of 2021. We arrived on scene a little after 11am, which was late because 500 cars were already parked each side of state route 431. As Chris G's luck would have it, a family man driving a mini van waved me down right in-front of the sledding slope as our family truckster was hunting a pristine parking spot. Seriously Yelpers, we had the best parking spot in Tahoe Meadows for sledding. We were popping Barqs root beer off the Rover tailgate we were so close. Fast slopes and good quality family sledding time! If you can get here early and not have to park a mile down State Route 431 I highly recommend this spot for sledding. read more

A couple of weeks ago, I had the unique pleasure of hiking up to Chickadee Ridge. With our snow boots laced up and our jackets zippered, our small group of four hiked the mile or so on the way to the top. We had brought along birdseed, hoping what we had heard was true. Sure enough, almost at the trailhead, we met our chickadees. When they spotted the birdseed on our gloves, they descended swiftly. It was an amazing experience. It felt like we were in an animated Disney movie. read more

Came here during winter and there was enough snow this season to have some fun with the kids. The slope is steep and long enough for sledding. Also, plenty of parking on the street that's wide enough for fully opened doors without worrying the cars passing by. read more

I went snowshoeing for the first time on the Chickadee Ridge hike and it was the highlight of my entire weekend at Lake Tahoe! We read some reviews beforehand to bring sunflower seeds to feed them to the chickadees along the trail so we bought a bag (definitely more than enough) from a gas station near our airbnb to try it out. As we went along the trail, we heard their chirping so we all split up and quietly held out our hands with sunflower seeds and sure enough, they really did land on our hand to take the seeds!! I was super skeptical at first but it WORKS!!! At the end of the hike, the view was also super pretty so we stopped for pictures and played in the snow. This hike is 100% worth it! read more

We love hiking around Lake Tahoe and this area is one of our favorites! When the weather is nicer, there is an abundance of beautiful wild flowers that accentuate the already gorgeous surroundings with peek-a-boo views of gorgeous Lake Tahoe. But we had a magical winter wonderland hike here a couple days ago in December! Sadly, we forgot to bring along our snowshoes but, with the goal of finding Chickadee Ridge, we proceeded along the snow-covered meadows boardwalk based upon the descriptions found on online hike sites. We also encountered others that either snowshoed or cross-country skied on the same trails that gave friendly advice about how to find the seemingly evasive chickadees. There were lots of happy people and dogs in the same area that others warned may have scared off the cute birdies. We made our way up to the top of the ridge and were rewarded with an absolutely gorgeous view of Lake Tahoe! Even if we could not find the chickadees, we were more than satisfied with this reward! As we made our way back down toward where we parked, we saw a man sitting quietly with his little boy on a sled. He told us he did see a couple chickadees here and, as we quieted our voices, we could hear them calling in the trees! So my daughter and I silently made our way off the trail, hands outstretched holding pieces of walnuts. It did not take long until inquisitive chickadees whooshed down, landed on our hands, grabbed a nibble, and took off again! It truly was magical! We will head here again and won't forget our snowshoes! Even though the snow trails are packed down, every once in a while we would sink beneath the trail without them! read more

Came up to Chickadee Ridge from South Lake Tahoe for some snowshoeing and it did not disappoint. A quick drive up from Incline Village on Route 431 and using All Trails as our GPS map found the trail and sledding area very easily. Parking is along the road and we were lucky to get a spot when we arrived around 1 PM. From the road we snowshoed across the trees and found a nice groomed trail. The trail looped around was very easy to use (for a novice snowshoe walker). At times my wife and I went off the trail into the tree area with no difficulty. Got to the top of Chickadee Ridge for a wonderful view of Lake Tahoe. BTW, made sure you stop at the scenic overlook on the way up or back to Incline Village area. This was a terrific day trip and we so enjoyed our time walking Chichadee Ridge Trail. read more

This is the perfect spot for a fairly easy, kid friendly, snowshoe adventure with incredible views of Lake Tahoe, and little birdies that will make you feel like Snow White. Great area for sledding and snowshoeing. Head up to Chickadee Tahoe Rim Trail for less people. Parking is full in morning but after 2:00 it thins out. Restrooms were there but locked so make sure you go before coming here. Lots of snow and snowshoes were needed for heavy hiking if you decide to go. Otherwise you can just stay bear parking/road and snow play or walk around. read more

Chickadee Ridge is up way past the entrance to Mt Rose Ski area. If you snowshoe hike far enough up the ridge and it's clear, you'll see Lake Tahoe too. If you bring along wild bird seed, the chickadees will flock to you. They land on your hand and sometimes your head. Check it out one day this winter. Might as well enjoy the snow! read more

Tahoe Meadows popped up on my radar to review and I am surprised that I had not reviewed this place before. We live in paradise in Northern Nevada and are blessed to have the mountains, lake and forest in our own backyard. I have hiked Tahoe Meadows in the summer and snowshoed the meadows in the winter. All seasons present a beautiful landscape. A nice walk is the loop, which is 1-3 miles, flat and boarded in some areas. Streams are intertwined throughout. Drive carefully when entering this area as this is the destination place in the winter for families and children. Lots of tubing and sledding down the sides of the mountains. Parking is alongside the highway and can get crowded, especially after fresh snow. Great inexpensive entertainment for all. read more

You will find plenty of places to explore for every age range and varying degrees of difficulty that you will never get tired of returning to this area. Tahoe Meadows has many trails that access to here from Mt. Rose, Flume Trail, Spooner Summit, Chickadee Ridge, Pacific Rim Trail to the simple trails that meander just inside Tahoe Meadows. You MUST experience Chickadee Ridge and/or a full moon snowshoe adventure or how about during the Spring when all of the beautiful wild flowers are all over the meadows. Easy walk/hike in the summer. It's almost all flat. Starting from the highway, we took the trail to upper meadow. When you hit a fork, there are signs for different trails. We took left to middle meadow and loop back to our car through lower meadow. It was around 2.5 - 3 miles. The first part of the trail is dirt/gravel, wide and mostly flat. There are some incline and decline when you head towards middle part. The trail does get a little narrower as we walked up and down over rocks. Overall it was a easy leisurely walk. It took us about an hour. We did not see views of the lake. There were a lot of dogs on the trail. We went in early July just after a heat wave. It was hot but also really dry and dusty. read more

The Meadows is a 30-min drive from Reno and is one of our favorite spots to hike in the summer, and snowshoe in the winter. Plenty of spots to park on the side of the road. In the summer, it provides several easy trails for hikers, as well as a dedicated trail for mountain bikers. The trails, ranging from 1-3 mile loops, start on a boardwalk which is well-maintained and provides great views, a couple of benches for seating, and even a plaque that gives information on the surrounding flora and fauna. After the short walk on the meadow, the trails lead into the woods where it transitions into a dirt path going through a stream, boulders, and the shade of the forest. In the wintertime, the paths are not as obvious, but it's fun creating your own and trample on fresh snow. The chickadee ridge is a popular stop where people try to lure the chickadees to land on their outstretched hands. It's a perfect spot to rest and take in the beauty of nature. After all, whenever one is hiking around the lake, you will always be rewarded with a stunning view of it. And this one is no exception. I highly recommend this for an easy beginner's hike. snowshoeing can be a little bit more challenging, but certainly doable if you take your time. Also in the winter, the area across the road from the meadows turns into a sledding hub. It's great for kids. It can get crowded so plan accordingly. read more

This is a short little loop that has diverse fauna and flora. However, I love the fact that you can just go a little ways to Mt. Rose or hop on the TRT, explore the Olphir Creek trail... all from one simple location. It is great for groups that aren't sure exactly what they want or all can't agree. There are basically two parking locations and one has bathrooms. It would be really hard to get lost in this location. Nice in summer and winter snowshoeing. read more

Tahoe Meadows is a great place to a trek in the woods. It has multiple routes that range from beginners to the lower end of advanced. But a great place to just go for a quick trek. This is probably on of my favor go to areas for hiking and snowshoeing. There are no bathrooms close by once you're away from the street. There is a bathroom by the parking area but depending on where you park it can be a bit of a walk. But once your in the woods you better have biodegradable toilet paper and a dirt scooper for those emergencies. You don't ever want to get caught short. So, depending on what time of year you come here is can be hit or miss on the parking. In the winter time it can get crazy to find parking here. Sometimes in the summer it can also get crazy to find parking here but for the most part it isn't to bad. I would definitely recommend this hiking area for families, friends and even Californians haha. There are spectacular views of Lake Tahoe along the routes after you crest over chickadee peak. I highly recommend making the trek over those peaks. Great views! Also, I know everyone does this but feeding the birds will make them dependent on that food. These birds fly up to Mt. Great place to stay and play with the family. Spent four hours in the snow tobogganing. Building snowman, and exploring. Close to the freeway the snow is packed really well and there are a lot of visitors as you venture and deeper you will find less people more animal tracks and more powdered snow. To start this is part of the Tahoe Rim Trail and allows you access to Ophir Creek, Tunnel Rd., Lake Marlette, and Spooner Summit. Parking is on Mt. Rose or in the parking lot (provided the gate is open). If you tackle any of the trails ensure you dress in layers due to wind that can come out of nowhere and be quite chilling especially in late September and October before any snow has fallen. The views are absolutely stunning and if you plan on doing a one direction hike there are taxis (Some taxis will even allow you to bring your dog, but I recommend checking first before you set out.) that will pick you up as well as a shuttle that is available (Here are the shuttle details - https://tahoerimtrail.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=82&Itemid=167 ) The elevation at Tahoe Meadows is 8740' and drops down to 7150' at Spooner. (The one way trip is about 23 miles.) I'd recommend this not be your first hike on the TRT if you are coming from sea level due to potential altitude sickness. The scenery is some of the best, so bring your camera. If you set out early, around 7 a.m. you'll not encounter many people or bikes (bikes are only allowed on even number days on the trail.) So go enjoy the smell of the pines and the solitude of being surrounded by some of the most beautiful forests i've encountered. Happy hiking! read more

This review is for chickadee ridge which we snowshoed to as a subset of our original hike through the general meadows. The snow was amazing and I was dying to use snowshoes I had gotten for Christmas. I was not disappointed! Very dog friendly, snow friendly, just really friendly! Oh also the birds come and eat right out of your hand. Like legit Disney princess status. What the what?! It's so beautiful and an easy enough hike that you won't feel like death afterwards. To be real 10/10 would recommend. Unless you don't like the cold...in which case...definitely don't go during winter. But if you even sort of like the snow I cannot recommend this hike enough!! read more

This is a great hiking place. My husband and I bring our shin tzu here all the time and she loves it too. We like how open the entry to this meadow is as well as the shade that the trees provide. To get here, you want to head up on my rose highway ( heading towards Galena). This highway will take you through a windy road that is very similar like going to Tahoe, about 25 mins, you should see the meadow onto the left side. You know when you are there when you see cars parked alongside the road. This place is a gem! You won't regret your experience. read more

Great place for kids to play. Nice little slopes to sled on and FREE. I YELPed it haha!!! Parking was packed but we found one at end of lot. Mommy had to walk further than she bargained for. However the day we went it was crazy blizzards and we couldn't see our faces. The windchill was crazy and we ran back to our cars after 15 minutes because some of the kids didn't have proper gear on. Overall we would go again just hopefully not get caught in a freak storm of coldness. Californians...we want it all. Ocean beach mountain snow but it's never enough. Definitely check this place out next time you're in Reno. Be aware it's 20 degrees colder there than in Reno itself. Burrrrrr!!! read more

We found snow! This area was really nice, but could be a little difficult to park later in the day. People got really creative. We stuck to the side that had parking. Bring a snow disc or sled because there are a lot of areas to use them. There is also a lot of area to snow hike with lots of space to spread out and be secluded. I have no idea how much area there is to explore, but it seemed like we went really far and didn't see other foot prints or signs of life. Great place for adults and kids alike. read more
