Good things come in small packages, especially at Tacos El Paisa in downtown Richmond. If you want authentic fare, this is the place! The location is tiny, but the food is mighty! The interior is clean and minimal but they squeeze in a full bar and a replica of their first food truck where it all began. They have a few dishes that sell out on the daily. Everything is made fresh to order. They have a salsa bar to accompany your food orders. This establishment is run by folk who love what they are doing and it shows. Also, the price points are awesome, well below any other Mexican restaurant, along with better tasting food. It's a win-win. Service was SUPER fast but they weren't very busy while we were there. It's not a fancy date night place but it's a delicious date night place! Extra points for an extremely clean bathroom. read more

The food is pretty decent, but the service has significantly declined over the last few times I have went. The new restaurant off of Water street is nice and much larger than the old restaurant on main street but they usually only have one server working. With one server working 15+ tables they cannot give each table adequate service. I spoke to our server twice. We asked for tortillas and after 10 minutes ended up going to the host counter to ask for them. I think this restaurant could be much better with the correct amount of staff. read more

My son and I went because we heard about the salsa bar! Lots of salsa options for you to choose from! We only got one little cup each though for the bar so we made several trips. He ordered a burrito and it was really good! I had shrimp tacos and they were sad. Probably the most bland shrimp tacos I have ever had. Thank goodness for the salsa bar! I'll go back again but will not go for the shrimp tacos. read more

Stopped by this taco place while home for the holidays and I can't say that I would be back or recommend to others. We dined in and received a basket of chips and two clear condiment cups with no instructions. After reading other reviews on here I realized there was a salsa bar at the back of the restaurant. There was pico, guacamole and a few other salsas. The pico did not look freshly made and to my finding it was not. I then tried the birria taco which was decent however the steak street tacos were incredibly bland and lacked flavor. We also tried the cheese dip which was good. My mom got tacos as well and enjoyed her meal so take the comment with a grain of salt as everyone has different taste buds. The restaurant itself is in the historic downtown district and updates have been made including a cute little food truck stand. The service was quick and efficient but I still will likely not return. read more

Picked up food for me and my family. Wife got a vegetarian torta and an order of vegetarian fajitas. The torta was bland and almost tasted like it had been previously frozen. The fajitas smelled like old green beans and tasted terrible. My daughter and I both got chimichangas, and there was no flavor at all. Will not be going back. read more

Been here a couple times and the food is VERY good. Being Arizona transplants, we know good Mexican food (especially since one of us is from Mexico) and of ALL the "Mexican" restaurants we've been to in Kentucky, Tacos El Paisa is the best (over two others which didn't disappoint us). The dozen or-so others we've been to in Richmond and Lexington have been gravely disappointing -but maybe they're trying to cater to Kentucky-tastes rather than creating authentic Mexican food. Or maybe they're just buying the cheapest ingredients -I don't know. But Tacos El Paisa has certainly earned our repeat business for good, flavorful food at reasonable prices. The cons: The "salsa bar." Sure, the variety is nice, but they give you two tiny disposable condiment cups for you to go fill yourself -though they do bring you the chips. Parking may also be challenging as the restaurant is on Main Street and has no parking lot. Both negligible cons and not enough to prevent our return to enjoy their flavors. read more

I ordered the Birria tacos. They were delicious. My husband ordered chicken and steak fajitas. The food came out hot,which was the best part for me. My pet peeve is going to a restaurant and my plate coming out hot but my food lukewarm. The meat in both dishes was tender and flavorful. Very impressed. We will be back. read more

Was the fact when I asked for pico de gallo I was charged $2.10 for two small containers with my 33$ to-go order... The food was so good I forgot to take a picture first! As a Southern California native and moving to KY two years ago I have been sadly disappointed with Mexican food until we came to this taco place in downtown Richmond. BY FAR the best Mexican food I have had, gives me all the nostalgic home feels. Carnitas were on point, mango margarita was fabulous, all the salsas were delicious and sad to have to say it but the chips were sooo good! Our server, not sure if he was the owner but he was so nice and attentive, was very refreshing. I am thrilled to have come across this establishment. This will definitely be our go to spot when we are needing an authentic Mexican food fix! read more

I loved my meal here. I had the delicious tacos Al pastor and we tried the fajita quesadillas with chicken. Both were excellent. The frozen margarita was great and so was the hibiscus tea. Best authentic taco in town no question. Mi Haci is a close second but this is as authentic as it gets. Small shop but quick and great food. The dude that runs it is a stud and deserves more people there. Go with the Birria tacos they are amazing as well as chorizo and Al pastor. The spicy guacamole will put a couple hairs on your peaches but is to die for. 9.4/10. read more

got their tacos de birria, and my god, they might have been the best tacos i've ever tried in my life. i've tried many, but nothing beats how flavorful and tender the meat is on their tacos. plus the melted cheese and consume are the cherry on top. excellent customer service as well. 10/10 recommend! good atmosphere as well. read more
