Ok, Los Dos is a sleeper y'all. Most of my reviews are bad. In fact ALL of my reviews are bad. Except this one. I love Los Dos. Is it the best in the world? Nah, probably not even close. But what it is, is some down home, authentic Mexican food. Their red tomatillo salsa could use some work, but their habanero is fire! Literally. Fajitas are great, flavor profile is wonderful, saucy, not dry like SOME places. Carnitas are authentic and great flavor as well. Chili Colorado is great, could be spicier but then I'm a sucker for some spice (also this is where that red tomatillo salsa comes in). These are the only things I get at Mexican so deal with it. Their sides, beans and rice are great too. Portions are normally enough (after stuffing myself with chips and beer) for a couple of meals. Speaking of, they also have a pretty great Mexican beer selection with a laid back atmosphere. The servers are very friendly and service is fast. On Friday nights they have a great little old man band that plays country AND western classics. So come on fella, give Los Dos a try. I'll see ya there on Friday. read more

Went on the recommendation of a friend. It was good but could have been better. They charge for chips and salsa if you get a refill and didn't bother to tell me until I saw it on the check. The food was a bit overpriced IMO but the people were nice. Their English was very limited when trying to order. This locally-owned gem makes me question why I ever attempted to make tacos at home - theirs are the real MVPs. Favorite Mexican restaurant in Nicholasville wish it was in my city I'd go there every week. My favorite dishes are Mike's Special and the Fajitas Quesadilla as the chicken there is never dry or fatty just tender and juicy Plus who is going to say no to burritos stuffed with chicken drenched in queso? I also would recommend the queso and salsa that's usually what indicates a good or bad Mexican spot whether they can nail the most simplest of items. Food is always freshly prepared and served hot sometimes even steaming if you happen to order fajitas. It has a very big menu with decent prices for the quality you are receiving actually went here a lot during college they knew my order as it's family owned which shows they care about their customers and don't lack being personable. My friend introduced me to Los Dos and I cherish them with the act of doing so just as much as I do the food! read more

Always good, always fast! It's not the classiest newest thing on the block, but the food is great and we enjoy the bands on Friday nights!

As far as Tex-Mex places go, this is certainly above average for the Nicholasville area. The portions are fairly large, the selections seem to be fairly large as well. The atmosphere is average, nothing to complain nor write home about. The service is friendly, albeit a little slow. The serving of guacamole with the meal is unexpectedly large, and the sides are pretty well done. If you are in the area and looking for Mexican food, I would certainly suggest this place. I have had multiple dishes here now, and I have not yet been disappointed by any of them. Los Dos is the best Tex-Mex food in the area, and is absolutely worth visiting though. I would suggest also getting their cheap (albeit very, very large) beer from the tap, which practically alone makes the visit worth it (with responsibility, of course.) read more

What a gem for a bunch of college students in a small town. This place may not look the best, but the food here tastes really good. Although, I've never actually been to a Mexican restaurant that was terrible. A group of us went here on a Friday night. There was a country/blues band playing. I love this place! There were times in high school when I was here multiple times a week. I've been here SO much over the years. Sadly, the last few times I have returned it has not been as great as it used to be. Or rather it has just been very inconsistent. Some days it is great and other days it smells like a bathroom (I don't want to know why that happened, I hope it was an isolated incident). What I can say is that the staff has always been so nice. Small and quaint family owned restaurant. I have been coming here every 1-2x per month for the past 20 years and it is a staple in this small town. As with most Mexican restaurants, I do have to be careful / skeptical what I order. I'm vegan and ordered the veggie fajita. The server assured me the rice was not made with chicken broth but when it came, it appeared that he was wrong. When he questioned the kitchen, he admitted he was mistaken. Pleasantly surprising. Los Dos Amigos registers on the cultural authenticity scale roughly where your local Chinese take-out place might. Basic staples of Mexican cuisine like corn tortillas are sadly missing from the menu, but I can't fault the restaurant because there probably isn't much demand for it. (Insert sad face.) That said, Los Dos Amigos displayed flashes of quality in unexpected places. The rice was seasoned and cooked properly and the refried beans were creamy and refined--a sure sign that somebody in the kitchen knows what they're doing and is willing to put in the work to do it right. Carnitas here are roasted cubes of seasoned pork butt (not what I expected), but are delectably soft and fork-tender. The fajitas may have been a touch over-seasoned, but good enough for the genre. One strong note in Los Dos Amigos' favor: free salsa and chips, and decent portions of guacamole accompany entrees. Many other places would charge you an extra $2.50 for that dollop of green goodness. Don't let the 3-star rating throw you, since I grade on a bell-curve and most restaurants of this kind register as a 2.5 or lower. If you're angling for Nicholasville Mexican, Los Dos Amigos is your jam. read more

It was difficult to find at first because we're not terribly familiar with Nicholasville and the map in Yelp had it marked in a totally different spot. But I think I corrected that. Anyway, the food was good. I had a combination that included a burrito and enchilada. I did chicken burrito w/ cheese enchilada. It was quite tasty. My husband had fajitas, which he said were a little overcooked for his taste (it looked like a big mess of caramelized onions) but he said they weren't bad. He would have preferred they weren't cooked so much. But kudos to this place for being one of the few places we found open on the Monday of the huge snow storm. It was good. read more

Los Dos Amigos is a place I ate at once before and it was your standard Tex-Mex place so I thought I would go again with some friends because we where in the neighborhood and it was the worst experience ever right off the bat they where giving us 2 menus for 3 people so we asked for a menu and they where rude about it stomped away but then they give us our drinks with one straw so they take 10 minutes to give us 2 more so at this point we thought they couldn't count and then the food the worst part I got taquitos the come out with this chicken sludge but I ordered beef but I'm not one too call that out but the chicken was raw in some parts I couldn't eat the other 2 so my one friend got chimichangas but it was filled with the same sludge as mine so my last friend got fajitas and his was the worst of them all they where slimy beef not chicken and didn't come out with all the steam or anything not even tortillas so he asked our waiter to get some she is so mad because she said fajitas don't come with tortillas and that was it she did eventually bring them out also it took 40 minuets to get our food out so we went and payed only to find out it was $65 dollars with tax for some of the worst Mexican food ever and trust me I have been to many border towns and they are infinitely better. I would give it a half star if I could because the only good thing was the chips and salsa and the chips where old you could tell some of them started to turn green so just avoid this place go somewhere better. read more

Great Mexican place in Nicholasville strip mall. Went there for lunch. "Original tacos" are the soft open-face corn tortilla type - very simple, with just the meat (we had carnitas and roasted pork), a few onions and some cilantro. Also had the chile relleno (good) and a taco of the crisp/dry/folded corn type (meh). Will definitely return! read more

Where do I start? Reviews seemed legitimate, came in to a full house and to a live band! We thought we found a hidden gem! $2.75 guacamole?! $2 beers?! We were so excited... Until we received our orders. The meal that I ordered was centered around potatoes marinated in spices. I received an entirely different dish because they didn't have potatoes. They never bothered to tell me. Everything I asked to be left off my plate came out with the dish. Everything I asked for them to add was absent. Their guacamole come to find out is made with sour cream as an inexpensive filler. The real kicker though and what made us decide to throw away our leftovers and never look back: I ordered a beer, the waiter brought the wrong one but I didn't notice until I took a sip of the beer. I asked him for a new one and he removed my beer bottle from the table and put it back in the beer fridge!!!! I have never seen something so unsanitary. I would not advise anyone to eat here. Oh, and he charged me for all the beers and the more expensive meal I originally ordered. read more
