I have eaten at Don Senor in Winchester several times and decided to try their Express location in the University Shopping Center Richmond. I am glad that my first trip was with a friend to help make suggestions on how to order, but the 2 gentlemen behind the counter could have easily guided me if I was there alone for my first time. There were lots of selections, but I decided on the burrito bowl. You can choose your own meat and build from there, including several different types of salsa, cheese, and all the fillings you can imagine. I'm glad that I added on the chips and salsa as a side item. This was some of the best fresh salsa that I've had in a very long time and included freshly fried chips. I'm not sure why it has taken me so long to try Don Senor Express, but without a doubt, I'll be back again and again! read more

Love this place. The margaritas remind me of something unexpectedly wonderful you would find in an authentic little street market or on a beach. The fact that you can create you own tacos, burritos, nachos etc... makes it very customizable. You can keep it simple or dress it up as you desire. And the prices are comparable to the food. The hubby and I want a simply meal with margaritas after a day out enjoying the weather - we're not looking for overpriced options. They keep it simple, which becomes their niche. I wanted to see what the hype was all about but I didn't see it. I came in for dinner and tried the tinga chicken bowl. The place is similar to Qdoba but I don't think it could be compared to Chipotle. You order at the counter and choose what toppings you want in your meal. I definitely did not find all of the toppings to be fresh. The meats looked like they hadn't been stirred for awhile, and the tomatoes were probably the worst of all. My bowl was flavorful but mostly in salt. The chicken tinga was very salty. I appreciated the quinoa and pearled couscous option as a filler instead of rice. For the money ($7-$8) I guess it's not too bad, just not memorable except for the constant thirst I've had throughout the night. And some people said the chips and salsa are free. No, they are not. You can add a drink and chips/salsa for extra money, but it does not come with your meal for free. I specifically asked because one copy of the menu even said so, but I was told no. I do not understand the 5 star reviewers saying it is better than Qdoba. What? I don't even like Qdoba that much and it's definitely not better. I don't think I'll be back. read more

This place always has amazingly fresh food! From the pico, guac, to the grilled chicken & specialty drinks - it always tastes fresh! The staff are also very friendly, and go through all the options with you and will let you taste a sauce if you're unsure if you'll like it. The pricing is perfect. We have never left hungry and if we could resist cleaning our plate, we could really have enough to take home. One of is vegetarian, one if us is not, so it's a perfect option for various diets. My picky vegetarian has never complimented a veggie burrito so much! I always get the burrito bowl, and even without the tortilla I'm so full when I leave. Fine fast casual Mexican establishment akin to Qdoba. I had hopes that I would enjoy this more than qdoba/Chipotle, unfortunately, I just didn't. Nothing I had here was bad, but nothing was outstanding either. I had the barbocoa bowl, topped with most things on the bar. The portion size was fair and price was about standard. This was my first time trying this restaurant out and I must say I was very impressed! The service was fast and friendly, the food was great, and the atmosphere was inviting! I had the chicken burrito bowl and it was such a big portion and definitely could have shared, but the price was such a good deal for how much food you get here. Ate here tonight with my daughter. She and her friends LOVE this place. I was really happy to find that they have vegetarian options including tofu in a mild red sauce and vegetarian crumbles in some sort of sauce. They also have quinoa you can get instead of rice. I had a burrito bowl with quinoa, tofu and various toppings. It was tasty and the portion was generous. They also went to the back and cut a line for me which I appreciated. I got food poisoning here on my first visit. I was so ill the next day that I had to be sent home from work. On a separate occasion, my significant other got food poisoning. This tells me that it isn't a coincidence. It is really unfortunate, because the food looked and tasted pretty good. Our experiences were pretty scaring, so we definitely will not be back. This place was everything I was expecting it to be. I absolutely love the he Don Señor in Winchester and I was hoping the quality of food here was close, and it sure was! It's kind of like chipotle or qdoba on how it is set up but the taste of the food is above and beyond what either of those two restaurants offer. They give you huge amounts of food for a very reasonable price and everything tasted amazing! I usually get the nachos with steak and chicken and I've never been disappointed, their quac is outstanding and the people who work there are always very nice. The burritos were very good but the chips were just average. The salsa and guacamole are good but not memorable. This is a solid place for a quick dinner with good choices. We were passing through Richmond so are not familiar with the area. We had quite a hard time finding the restaurant from the directions on Yelp but we did and it was worth the trouble. The burritos are gigantic! I had marinated chicken with a number of toppings. The guacamole was delicious and plenty to fresh cilantro.As others have said, very fresh ingredients. Spouse had barbacola with so many topping it must have weighed at least two pounds! He recommends the chilli verde sauce. We could easily have shared one if we both liked spicy (I do not). The tofu has a very delicious and unique flavor as it's seasoned with their tinga seasoning! My absolute favorite was their fire sauce cheese dip! It's to die for! This is the best burrito and nacho place in Richmond. Staff are always very friendly and give you a good portion of the meat that you select as well as the toppings.
