Best dessert around!
Kelsey T.

I absolutely LOVE this taco shop! Their street tacos are classic and perfect, but their dessert... YUM! They make the tastiest sundaes! My favorite is ice cream with condensed milk, fruit syrup, and LOTS of fresh fruit (mango, pineapple, raisins, apple, banana) and nuts. It's something I had never had until coming here and I'll keep coming back!

This taco tour is wonderful now I see why the taco trucks stay so crowded the food is delicious even with a line they were very quick and efficient....

Awesome food! Big burritos, delicious tacos, and big big maxi quesadilla are all wonderful.

Excellent food. Big burritos, delicious tacos, and big big maxi quesadillas are all wonderful. Order at the food truck then pay inside while you wait on everything to be cooked.

Outdoor seating

This was the third and last place on the Taco tour for me and I thought the tacos were pretty good. I liked that the truck was connected to outdoor seating. I thought that was nice touch. Also too place an order I had to order 3 tacos. So I ordered three different tacos (chicken, steak and chirozo). Each taco was $1.50 a piece, not a bad deal since they tasted pretty good. I would go back and try the other items on their menu.

Los Tacos Jarochos has always been one of my favorite taco stops. Especially after a night out partying, when i get the munchies after drinking. They are open late on weekends and all their tacos are good. Another favorite is the carne asada torta. Now it is even more awesome because they have and an ice cream shop. So you can eat inside the ice cream shop and get dessert afterwards. The ice cream is good (though not better than La Michoacana). I'm more into spicy so I get the elote prepared with everything, of course extra chile powder. They also have mango ice cream with chile, sort of like a mangoneada. So if you like mexican food and are around this area, it is definitely worth checking out.

Beef taco and chicken taco

Ended up trying two tacos here because a friend organized a taco tour event. I didn't even know this place existed until that day. I ordered a chicken taco and a beef taco. They were both excellent but surprisingly I ended up liking the chicken one better. Thankfully it didn't take to long to get our order because I was hungry and they are small but surprisingly filling. The tacos are only 1.50 a piece. Since it wasn't too hot outside we were able to sit in the tables next to the truck and enjoy our dinner. I am definitely coming back here to eat the next time I am in the area.

Pork and chorrizo tacos
Leslie S.

Cheap good tasting tacos and ice cream is what this place all about. Tacos are served from food truck, and it is not large. One is about as big as normal soft taco from taco bell, but with more meat and double tortiya. Had pork and chorizo, and it was yummy. Note that green sauce is ghost pepper based. Do it only if you like crazy spicy. After meal, go next door for dessert.

Vegetarian Tacos (Tofu)

Great Vegetarian Tacos with tofu and fresh veggies!

Chorizo taco, chicken taco, steak taco and chicken quesadilla

I have always seen this truck sitting in front of the Exxon gas station on the way home and wondered how their food tastes. Boy, am I glad I stopped by last night to give it a try. I decided to get a taco with each meat offering - chorizo, chicken and steak. Their tacos are sooo tasty!!! I was in awe of how much flavor I received from the very simple ingredients they use to make their tacos. I enjoyed the chorizo the best. I also tried their chicken quesadilla (small) and so called street corn. The chicken quesadilla was full of cheese and flavor and did not disappoint but the so called elote (mexicorn) was a let down. It was corn from a can topped with mayo, shredded cheese and some spices on top inside of a plastic cup..yuck. It was definitely not the corn on the cob cheesy goodness you get when you order good Elote. I will be returning for those tacos and quesadillas tho!!! I recommend everything except the corn lol.

Can I get a show of hands on WHO fights a Chicken Chimichanga w/plastic to-go ware? Anyone? Yeah…read morethat's a problem but only one of many as I wait on my receipts to come back to me. 1. Seems there's some weird disconnect going on I wasn't aware of... This location is now going by Las Mexicanos instead of Los Comales. Looks like almost all new staff too, that could definitely use some Customer Service training. The menu has a 3rd name on it that seemed off as well. I was not told to come to the hostess stand to be seated, no friendly greeting when I did approach the stand. Once seated, the chip & salsa dude was quick enough in dripping them off w/out so much as a greeting. Maybe he's the silent type? Who knows? 2 Now the real wait begins.... Nothing to drink nor any sign of anyone even slowing down @ my table to take a drink order. Maybe they were fighting to see who would take my order? ‍ I was almost finished w/the basket of chips, decided what I wanted and LAID THE CLOSED MENU on the other side of the table close to the edge, hoping someone would notice. I had decided if they couldn't be bothered to come by the time I finished the chips I was leaving. Magically a waitress finally shows up w/3 chips to spare. Placed the order for water and dinner at the same time. Dinner came out quickly but looking pitiful w/barely a full tablespoon of guac, tomatoes or sour cream. Cheap bastards! The flour part of the chimichanga was NOT CRISP, & I was given plastic utensils to maneuver this sad plate. I have eaten here MANY times as I live in the area so I am more than disappointed w/this experience. Not a single customer sitting in the middle @ the 4-tops & @ least 7 booths empty; on a Saturday night @ 8:00 pm. Sad that they have lost so much business, I'll think twice before considering spending my money here again.

Can't say if I'll for sure come back whenever I visit again.

I still can't stop thinking about the sauce station here. There's a private parking lot shared with the surrounding businesses, and the restaurant has around 15 tables inside. It is a good casual spot if you are looking to dine here. FOOD: This restaurant does not serve complimentary chips and salsa. It is $2.95 an order. 1. Torta Villa Carbon (4/5; marinated grilled chicken topped with grilled onions, grilled pineapple, melted cheese, jalapeños, and avocado): This was huge. I ended up saving half for lunch the next day. The combination of sweet and savory flavors worked really well together. 2. Campechano Burrito (4/5; steak strips and chorizo with rice, beans, lettuce, onion, tomato, and jalapeño): Steak and chorizo are always a winning combination, and this burrito did not disappoint. 3. Chirucas Chimichanga (4/5; two medium chimichangas stuffed with rice, beans, cheese dip, and your choice of meat, served with lettuce, pico de gallo, and sour cream): I chose the grilled marinated pork (al pastor), which was flavorful and satisfying. The server mentioned that the chicken version is their favorite. The service was decent overall, though it could be slow at times. I noticed a few tables waiting a while before servers came to take orders or refill drinks, and my drink was empty for a bit before getting a refill. Dinner service can get very busy, as every table was once full in one of my visits. Would I come back? Absolutely.

The lamb sliders remain my go-to. They're consistently juicy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly every time. Paired with the crispy fries, it's a meal that never disappoints. This visit, I ordered a Sidecar, but the bartender didn't have every ingredient needed for the traditional recipe. Instead of saying no, they created their own twist--and it was absolutely delicious. Sometimes improvisation pays off, and this cocktail was proof. The salmon was also excellent. I ordered it prepared the original way instead of the new menu version that includes Brussels sprouts, and it was exactly what I was craving. One of the highlights of the visit was an unexpected surprise from our waiter, who brought us a sample of their avocado ice cream. I wasn't sure what to expect, but it was creamy, smooth, and surprisingly delicious. It was a thoughtful gesture that added to an already great dining experience. The only disappointment? They no longer offer the flight sampler. I was genuinely sad to see it gone because it was one of my favorite ways to experience several menu items in one visit. Overall, Babalu continues to deliver excellent food, attentive service, and outstanding drinks. Even with the flight no longer available, it's still one of my top recommendations in Memphis. 5/5 Stars - Consistent quality, excellent hospitality, and a place I'll gladly keep returning to.

The restaurant turned into a bar - strong drinks with just OK food. And that was fun, if only you didn't come here to eat. Reciently the restaurant has changed hands and the new owners have turned it back into a real Mexican eatery. Now the menu is awesome, and about half of it caters to vegetarian appetites. And not wheatgrass, and Tofu... this is real Mexican food. Don't get me wrong, there is plenty of pork chicken and beef. There are very large menu. And now, everything you look at it is delicious. I have been coming here since they opened and just now realized, I wanna try everything on this new menu. We had the beef chili rellinos with mole and refried beans, which I don't know how they do it but the refried beans have no pork and taste like they're loaded with bacon. She opted for a a la cart selection of black bean soup, roasted poblano pepper and cheese tamale, mushroom, cheese and spinach enchilida served with guac and pico. And as soon as our server left with our order, we immediately felt like we should have ordered this or that instead until our food arrived. TBO. Everything was totally delicious. I guess it means we just have to come back more often and try everything else on the menu. My server was amazing even though we did not order alcohol... (I had the worst feeling that since this place was really a drinking establishment for so long that they really kind of expected to grab a Margarita).
