Taco Everyday is here to stay at Tacos Gavilan! I drive by Tacos Gavilan in West Covina all the time off the 10 Fwy... I still haven't tried them yet. I was recently introduced to their Azusa location by my fellow Yelper. Thank you R*! We came here to have dinner one evening after work. I didn't know what to expect. About 10+ free parking spaces are in front of the restaurant. Its interior space is huge, bright, and clean. Lots of tables and chairs with some bench seating along the windows. Restrooms are available... key code is required. The way it works is (1) you place your order of tacos, burritos, nachos, quesadillas, mulitas, platos, sopes, etc with your choice of meat (asada, al pastor, chorizo, lengua, pollo, carnitas, cabeza, bucho), (2) pay for your order, and (3) wait for your order number to be called. Once called, you walk up to the condiments station to get red (spicy) and/or green (mild) sauces, grilled jalapenos & onions, cilantro & raw onions, beans, and/or lemon... these condiments are all complimentary! Staff was friendly and hospitable. Service was quick. I got the chicken taco and al pastor sope with all the condiments offered plus one Jamaica drink. Drinks are refillable. My first time trying a sope... it's a traditional Mexican dish that is made with a thick, fried masa (corn dough) base. It was different, but a very tasty different... I enjoyed it very much. Both taco and sope were delicious. Meat were not overly cooked. Beans were okay. Grilled jalapenos and onions were tasty. However, I may have overdid it with the cilantro and onions LOL. I can't wait to return to try their burritos, mulitas, quesadillas, and platos. I want to try them all!

Forget Taco Tuesday, you can get a good deal here everyday! On Wednesday, I met Linh for dinner. This is a good spot to meet and catch up and tasty too!! Customers place their order at the counter and pay. Your receipt has a number that they call on the speaker when it's ready. Pickup your tray and proceed to the right to choose your toppings and salsa. Fountain drinks (free refills), napkins, forks and straws are located to the left side of the register. We each ordered one taco and one sope. The proteins available are chicken, beef or pork. Other items on the menu are Tortas, Burritos, and Quesadillas. The Carne Asada was tasty and seasoned perfectly, the Al Pastor was tender and juicy. For 89 cents more, I got Guacamole added to my taco. I liked the condiments that included onions, cilantro, grilled jalapeños, onion, and creamy pinto beans. Note 1: The restaurant is very clean. I saw the employees wiping the tables within minutes of when customers left. Note 2: They accept cash or credit card. Note 3: This location was conveniently close to the freeway with plenty of free parking. Sincerely, Rosemary

Tacos Gavilan really stands out with its huge white and red exterior and the logo. I've wanted to try this place out as they are also open slightly later than some of the places. They have a good variety of items from tacos, sopes, tortas and more. I had ordered a variety of tacos, the sope and a chorizo quesadilla. The food is made fresh to order as it takes a little for it to be ready and that's a good thing. You pick and select your salsas and toppings from their salsa bar as well. The salsa verde was very good and I personally really liked the grilled onion and jalapeño as one of their selections as well. The food was good, it definitely satisfy the tacos and Mexican food craving that we all get from time to time. I liked their Al pastor taco and the chorizo quesadilla the best. The sope was a little hard for my liking but overall a good place to get some food.

This is the best place to enjoy tacos and more ! People are helpful. The cashier is happy to answer all my questions since I see their menu presented differently but very tempting !!! Place is very clean . A lady cleans after each customer leaves the table. And check out their condiments. They have hot beans . They offer this on the side of your order. I never like beans really but I enjoyed this !!! Price is affordable! Oh! Check out their juices its all good and tasty!! 10/10 + is the best score for Tacos Gavilan! Try them!

Here's a tip: Endless beans and sautéed onions with jalapeño at the condiments bar. If you want a sit down experience versus taco truck then head down to tacos galvilan. I always get the tacos or the plate here. Hits the spot. I like how clean and organized the front kitchen is and the condiments! The dining room seems to be spotless just about every time I'm here. Aguas frescas always filled and filtering through. Horchata is my favorite and just the right amount of sweetness. Service seems to be quick so not sure about those busy lunch and dinner times.

Unbelievable Charges and Terrible Food - A Total Rip-Off I can't even begin to explain how disappointing my experience was at Tacos Gavilan 887 S Azusa AVE. 91702. To start, I've never encountered a restaurant that charges an additional fee for cooking your meat well done. Not only was this never disclosed upfront, but when I saw the added charge on my bill, I was absolutely shocked. Why on earth would I pay more for simply requesting my steak cooked the way I want it? This seems like an outrageous, money-grabbing tactic that only adds to the frustration of dining here. To make things worse, the food itself was beyond terrible. My steak Meat, even though it was supposedly "well done" (though it was more of a dry, overcooked mess), tasted bland and flavorless. The seasoning, if there was any, was completely nonexistent. It wasn't just my steak either -- my companion's dish was equally uninspiring, with no balance of flavors whatsoever. It's hard to believe a restaurant can charge what they do for food that tastes so underwhelming. And here's another thing: the fact that they didn't disclose their prices for basic customizations (like removing cheese or tomatoes, cooking well done ) should be considered dishonest. I can't help but wonder if they'd start charging for minor requests like swapping out ingredients or making small adjustments to the dish. It's a basic courtesy to communicate these fees upfront, but apparently, that's too much to ask. I would not recommend this place to anyone. The poor food quality, combined with ridiculous hidden charges, make this one of the worst dining experiences I've had. Save your time and money, and find somewhere else to eat -- somewhere that values transparency and, most importantly, knows how to prepare decent food.

Delicious food, generous portions- (toppings and salsa )and excellent service. What more do you want? My go to- carne asada tacos. Carne asada sopes. They come plain and you the topping n salsas come on the side. The red salsa and a couple wedges on lemon squeezed onto the tacos and sopes are bomb. Well priced and their horchata is also not watered down. Look at the pic of the tacos and tell me you aren't salivating! Tip: Husband loves the cali burrito, asada.

My daughter passed by here on the last leg of her drive home from Central California. When she does, she always orders from here. It was yet another great to-go order! The restaurant is always clean when we go here. Last night, she brought home two Carne asada tacos each, two chicken tacos each, and 1 Carne asada burrito to share. I love this place because they give you tortilla and your meat choice(s), and that's it for the tacos. The rest of the toppings are individually packed, and you can take as much as you like, no extra charge. The toppings we get are the green salsa, beans, lemons, and sometimes the green hot peppers. The burrito includes rice. The odd thing here is that they don't use or put out cheese here, but all is so good even without cheese. My favorite drink here is horchata. My daughter likes to mix the cherry soda with coke or Sprite. Thanks, Gavilan, for always tasting so good to us! Oh, they do Taco Tuesday, so the tacos are cheaper on Tuesdays!!! Be back again soon!!!

I never have complaints but the last few time my super quesadillas been too greasy and it soaks up the tortilla and it falls apart

It was tasty and there was plenty on the plate along with rice, beans, and a small salad. Absolutely love that they put a fire roasted chili on top, radish slices, and an orange slice. The service was great! As soon as I walked in the door, I was greeted and asked if she could take my order. Sidenote, you order at the counter and they bring it to your table. They have a salsa bar, which I got a picture of, it will be in this review. All of the salsa looks fresh and tastes amazing! They serve fresh chips with a light amount of beans on top. Yummy! The ambience of this place is a cute trendy vibe. Since it is a couple days after Valentine's Day, they have decor for Valentines in the lobby and small hints throughout the restaurant. Definitely be forewarned they are a cash only business. They do have atm in the lobby. I had enough cash on me to pay for my food. Chili Verde plate and a small soda came to $23 and change.

They also included the sauces in the bag. The chorizo taco was a bit lacking in flavor, but I consider it 3/5. I liked the asada tacos a lot better and consider it a 3.5/5. For the burrito, this was definitely my favorite and I'd give it a 4/5. There was a lot of flavor in the onion, beans, rice, etc. The only drawback was the burrito was falling apart with each bite, so be prepared to get messy! One thing to note is that the pepper they gave was very spicy. If you're looking to dine here, there are a few tables in the front that accommodates large groups.

I entered from the back door, which passes through the restrooms on the left and the kitchen on the right, leading to a cute seating area. It's small but super cozy, with a lovely bar filled with lemons, napkins, and lots of hot sauces at each table: at least seven or eight types! But the real star here is the food. The tacos are absolutely incredible! fresh and full of flavor. I ordered three: carne asada, fish, and shrimp. The fish and shrimp both have the option to be fried or grilled, so I went with fried, and they were fantastic.
