    a mexican food truck
    Richard K.

The Crows Landing area of Modesto is a taco and auto repair row that consists of tons of taquerias and auto repair locations. You've got mariscos, asada, pollo al carbon, tripas, pastor, honestly, any kind of taco can be found on this strip of Modesto. It's like taco truck, taco stand, taco restaurant, Mexican market, auto repair, taco restaurant, auto repair and gas station on one block and then it's repeat all over again. Now, Tacos El Pollo is actually not on Crows Landing Road, but it is located on Hatch Road about a 1/2 mile or so east of Crows Landing Road. If you pass the freeway overpass, then you've gone too far. I randomly discovered them because I made a wrong turn. You see, I was looking for El Pollo Feliz on Crows Landing to grab some Mexican-style BBQ chicken, but I made a wrong turn onto Hatch Road, saw the line at Tacos El Pollo and was like whoa, I need to eat here. BTW, Tacos El Pollo fittingly shares a lot with Modesto Muffler Shop! Tacos y autos. The irony is that I still haven't had the chicken here despite the restaurant being the Chicken Taco Place in Español. Maybe next time! Today was my second visit and I noticed that there wasn't even a Yelp page. So I made the page today. The crazy thing is that despite not having a Yelp page, the locals all knew about this little treasure of a taco joint. When a taqueria makes tacos with handmade tortillas and only charges $2-2.50 per taco, well that is what sets you apart from the zillion other taco restaurants that use factory-made tortillas. The tortillas that they use are nice and fluffy and really taste delicious. I'm a Coreano, but if I was Mexican, I could imagine my abuela making these tacos lol. I've tried Tacos El Pollo's carne asada, tripas, and al pastor tacos. All are fantastic. I really like the way they cook the tripas here extra crispy too. Again, one day I will try the pollo. LOL. So, if you happen to be in Modesto and have some cash (Tacos El Pollo is CASH ONLY) and are hungry and can't decide which one of the taquerias off Crows Landing you want to try, make the turn onto Hatch Road and try Tacos El Pollo, mi favorite taqueria en Modesto jajaja!

    Tripita super burrito

Honestly disappointed with this truck. Was expecting a bomb burrito the reviews claimed to be amazing. The customer service is great but the food was just okay. The tripita burrito was pretty burnt and barely had any cheese and cream for a super burrito. We also ordered 2 pastor tacos and previous reviews claimed they had homemade tortillas but ours did not. Presentation was there but still on our hunt for the best taco truck in Modesto.

Taco an burrito an the sides are delicious

So I'm grateful, can't complain. My baby loves her spaghetti and churro every time we come. It's her go too spots! Unless she wants something salty instead of sweet, then we'll swap the churro for a pretzel. Staff is always friendly at all the trucks I've stopped at. This place can get very packed, but many tables to sit and we've always had the have to sit when needed.

I definitely got excited glad I finally got the chance to check it out . Parking was busy but there was a young man guiding you to where you could park. Luckily I found parking pretty quickly. There's a lot of cars coming and going. We went specifically to get some Salvadoran food we got some pupusas my son also wanted some tacos from a Mexican truck . I mean, they have it all they have any food you could think of here. I have also tried the lumpia from the Filipino truck. I have to say I loved all the food. I tried so far here. I mean, it could be a little bit on the pricier side cause it's food truck prices. Overall the food was great lots of options to choose from. If you have a big group and no one can decide on what to eat this is the place to take them. We will definitely be back again .

I was out running errands and saw where they were going to be for lunch and the times. The Universe was working with me that day because I found a park and was 4th in line before they were taking orders. Please be mindful that there was only one person taking the orders and cooking/prepping the food. I don't know if it is always the case, but he got it done. Of course, there was somewhat of a wait. Now that I am thinking, maybe I was just ready to tear into the food and that there wasn't a wait. LMFAO. This is what I ordered: #21 Roberto Clemente and some Empanadas Carne. Need I say more..... If you see someone running behind the truck for a plate of food, that's me. Lol

I stumbled upon this place one day while doing my random walk, so you KNOW I had to give this place a try. I had went in upon opening time, so my wait was a little bit, but I was not complaining because you know what they say: "Greatness comes when you build them up one by one." I got their hamburger with the extra cheese, and curly fries. The patty was extra juicy, and the brioche buns were toasted really well. I especially like how they added on the cheese after the patty was marinated on the grill for quite a while, but not too long to the point all of the juice was sucked up. The only down side to the food: the prices. Be prepared to spend quite a bit on lunch if you decide to go to this place, because they do end up charging quite a bit more than what the regular places around Downtown would. But the IPA beers make up for it, so it's also worth a bang for your buck. Hospitality was pretty top-notch -- my order was taken in an orderly fashion, and they even apologized for the wait as well. I hope Scratch Cookery stays around for a long while so that people can try out such majestic wonders this establishment has to offer! Ambiance was great, and I'd definitely be back again!

I kept hearing about their hot chicken sandwiches for years, and we finally made the trek to check them out. The Good: * Friendly service * Prices aren't too bad considering the portion size and flavor. * Outdoor dog-friendly seating * Craft brews in cans * Seven levels of heat for everyone from the spice-averse to the hardcore fire lover. * Chicken sandwiches are massive and delicious. And despite it being a breast, they kept it very juicy. * Really loved their fries; I'm not sure if they make them in-house or if they're frozen, but regardless, they're fantastic. The Meh: * Not much in the way of drinks except for the aforementioned beers and cans of soda. The Ugly: * It's located in DTSJ, so you'll most likely have to pay for parking. If you don't mind walking a few blocks, the 4th St Garage is free for the first 90 min. Conclusion: Great spot to get your spice on.

There was even some line dancing going on in the makeshift stage area at some point. Sound was not the greatest, the volume quite low even for a small event, but it was fine. There were about 8 food trucks to choose from, along with a few random vendor/service tents (like Bass Pro Shops). Decided on sliders and garlic fries from the Curveball food truck. The food was okay, good enough to satisfy my hunger (see my separate review on that). I snagged one of the few spots in the grass with shade on this hot evening, though they also have tables and seating here, partially shaded too. An actual restroom (not porta potties) on site, in the Fremont downtown event center building. Also, plenty of space available in the parking lot. There's access to the clean and private bathrooms at the event center, which is a huge plus for families with young children. The food vendors (food trucks) were great and covered a diverse group of cuisine. Some more reasonably priced than others, but they were all very delicious and fresh. There's also a beer stand where they were collecting tips for scholarship programs. While dining and perusing the stalls and vendors, a DJ was broadcasting music and making announcements to bring attention to the raffle, upcoming community events, and vendors present. Very lively atmosphere! Overall, this is a fun family friendly outing and a great way to connect with local community members while benefiting local businesses. Definitely a must try and an anticipated return visit!
