nothing too fancy , but i did enjoy my visit here . the place is small and seems like a hole in the wall. however it was clean , so no complaints there . we were immediately greeted upon arrival . we were then shown to our seats and handed menus. we were offered chips and salsa , but were not told they're not complimentary u til the bill came . $14 for chips and dips is crazy . anyway, the food was tasty and flavorful but overpriced in my opinion. the service could have been better. we were literally the only ppl in the restaurant , but our food and drinks took over 30 minutes .

If you just want a mountain - and I mean a MOUNTAIN - of cilantro, this is the joint for you.

I guiltily confess that we came here for Cinco De Mayo, though we eat Mexican cuisine somewhat regularly. It was right in the neighborhood, and not super cheap but not overpriced either. We split the Al Pastor burrito and tortilla chips. The portion of burrito was substantial! The chips are also good, moist and salty but not too salty. The pork was nicely seasoned and there was enough of it in proportion to the other ingredients. The sauces with it were good too. It's a small place, not very dine-in friendly, but it can be done, but we did carryout anyway.

My friends and I heard the hype about Tacos El Pastor 53 and were very happy with our experience. The tacos were delicious and we had no complaints about the small interior or staff. It's a small business with limited seating but they were not busy when we went. The tacos are a little pricy (2 tacos = $12 with tax) which is why I gave it 4 stars, but I would probably go again if I want authentic tacos. *safe for nut allergies*

This quesadilla was not a good portion and I had to put it in the skillet to brown it myself

I ordered a chicken quesadilla with a side of guacamole and sour cream. When I got home I realized the guacamole was missing. The quesadilla was white and I had to put it in the skillet to brown it. The chicken was seasoned, but not worth the money for this small portion.

Okay so I had already heard a few coworkers talk about this place so we decided to go try it out today! I got the chicken burrito dinner with cokes with a HUGEEEE chicken burrito along with rice and beans! Literally the chicken burrito is enough to feed 2 people because there's so much filling and the tortilla is so big!! The rice and beans that come with it are really good also! We also got some chips and guac on the side! Let me tell me - one of the best guacamole I've ever had! I'm obsessed!!! The thing that I absolutely love about this place though, is the salsas!! Omfg they have 2 types of salsa - red and green. Both taste absolutely phenomenal! They're spicy and tangy and so so flavorful! I CANNOT STOP EATING CHIPS AND SALSA!! This is literally the reason I will keep going back! The place is super cute inside but it has a freaking drive thru!! So you can order ahead and just pay as you come by to pick it up!! Amazing service, amazing food! Absolutely Iove this place!!

They truly go above and beyond to make sure they deliver great customer service. They'll do little things like offer you a free taco of their Birria while you wait for your food. Go to any market in Mexico and they'll treat you the exact same. Unfortunately for them their original Southside location is closed due to a fire but they'll be back hopefully soon! My son and daughter both ordered their Birria Tacos, my wife ordered their Quesabirria tacos and I ordered their Tazon Chico of their carnaza Birria of course. It also came with a side of their handmade tortillas. Everything tasted so fresh and the Birria was very delicious. So much flavor in the consome. Ordering the tazon is definitely they way to go here because you get the meat in the consome. But if you wanted meat only, you have the option of ordering their plato instead. Regardless of what you order here, you won't go wrong. Enjoy!

Despite their well-earned fame, this spot keeps the humble, hole-in-the-wall energy intact, small, unpretentious, and staffed by some genuinely warm and welcoming people. Pop in, grab a seat, and let them do the rest. My fiancé and I shared the quesabirria combo, two quesabirrias with consomé, a Mexican Coke, and a Jamaica, and honestly, everything was amazing. The Jamaica alone deserves its own shoutout: perfectly balanced, not too bitter, not too sweet, and exactly what you need to cut through the heat of the food. The tacos came out piping hot, prepped right in front of us, loaded with cheese and packed with flavor. The consomé was warming, rich, and perfectly spiced, the kind of broth that makes you want to tip the bowl. And the accompaniments (onion, cilantro, peppers, lime, and salsa) give you full control to doctor things up to your liking. For spice lovers, this setup is a dream. My one gripe, and the sole reason I'm docking a star, is the price. At around $30 for two tacos, a consomé, and drinks, it's a tough pill to swallow. As a Mexican American, there's something about that price point that pulls me slightly out of the authentic experience I was hoping for. I fully respect the craft and passion behind this food, but it's worth noting. That said? Don't let it stop you. This food is incredible, and I'll absolutely be back.

Really awesome space at a crowded downtown location. Foods were served on nice metal holders or disposable/environmentally friendly containers and utensils. The tacos were huge, and I love that they focus on the variety of vegetables on the taco, which is often overlooked at other places. Veggies also make the taco look beautiful. I particularly enjoyed the tikka paneer, the paneer was soft for paneer but firmer than tofu, a really great texture. And the flavor wasn't overpowering. The tikka sauce was light, which I am totally fine with. The chicken quesadilla was also made well and of good value, the kids all really liked it. The salmon was good too but didn't really stand out as much, but appreciate the variety veggies on top! The mexi-Cali shrimp bowl was not bad either, but also didn't stand out much. The shrimp was good but I prefer it cooked even lighter if possible. Flavor was good tho. The rice was long grain, which I prefer, but they do give quite a lot, I ended up having quite a lot leftover. I wish the had a bit more cilantro or other herby mix to increase the depth of flavor, but overall still pretty good. Queso was also really good, thick and creamy, not too salty, but sadly the kids didn't like it as much. Husband also liked the gochujang pork a lot, said it was actually really really good. Overall, we really enjoyed everything we had there. Love that they also had paper towels everywhere. My preferred method of keeping clean haha. Will definitely come back.

It was very busy, almost every seat taken and the staff was running around taking orders with a smile delivering food and seemed to be having fun too. This is the kind of ENERGY I love!! There is a separate bar for drinks. The juices are freshly made in house, the horchata was highly recommended and apparently always sells out. I might have gotten the last glass of the night, the guy who ordered right after me couldn't get it. We ordered some very well-priced margaritas, my husband got tacos and I got a chicken burrito. YUMMMM. Great portions (my burrito was huge), simple yet flavorful recipes, and great service. The house salsas were great as well and actually quite spicy. After inhaling our food in record time and declaring this our favorite restaurant of our new neighborhood, only one question remained - was it actually that good, or were we just starving from our move? Don't worry, we put that to the test! We came back with a group on a perfectly normal day and had a spread of enchiladas, tacos, burritos, and flan. Somehow, I think it was even better the second time!! My husband now suggests this spot for any and every meal. You will not be disappointed if you are looking for simple yet delicious mexican food.
