    Steak and chorizo tacos
    Keith S.

Perfect tacos. Exactly what you expect out of a Mexican taco truck. The sauce was a touch spicy and perfect to empty the whole container. I'll be coming back for sure.

We got the Comal Mexicano, which is perfect for the two of us to make our own fajitas just the way we like. I dig the lime and onion whereas the Mrs. favors the tortillas and sour cream. We both agree the meats were cooked properly with a touch of seasoning for flavour. Flan was a very smooth texture, not gritty or lumpy, with a nice caramel sweetness. Friendly service made this a most enjoyable meal. Looking forward to exploring more of the menu in the future.

The food was just okay--nothing particularly flavorful or memorable, and some dishes seemed like they had been sitting out too long before being served. Service was also disappointing. It took quite a while for someone to take our order, and we had to ask multiple times for basic things like refills and utensils. The staff didn't seem very attentive or organized. The atmosphere itself was decent, but it couldn't make up for the slow service and lackluster food. Overall, not the worst place I've been to, but definitely not somewhere I'd go out of my way to visit again.

It's cozy inside with ornate tables which seem to be hand carved and painted in a vibrant traditional style-definitely awakens your senses and mood. So the food...pretty damn good! I had perfectly seasoned steak fajitas served on a sizzling plate of peppers and onions. It came with rice, salad, shredded cheese, and of course soft tortillas on a separate plate. It also comes with sour cream and guacamole but I passed on those and decided to use the green salsa they provided at the table, which had a perfect flavor balance of savory and spicy. The portion sizes are unbelievable! My fajita plate was huge, I had plenty of leftovers to take home. My husband had a Torta Niurca sandwich which was massive. He loved it and was also unable to finish it! The service was fast and friendly. This is the second I've had lunch here. The first time I came I had chicken enchiladas which was just okay. Maybe that was an off day or maybe there are just certain menu items they have that they can knock out of the park. With the steak fajitas, they certainly did!

We stopped in on a Tuesday evening and were seated right away. It wasn't busy when we arrived, and while it did start to fill up, there was never a wait. The restaurant itself was clean and casual, and they do serve alcohol (it looked like they have happy hour specials as well, though we didn't try any). They brought out complimentary chips and salsa to start, with a note on the menu that a second basket comes with a charge. One thing to be aware of: the chips are not made in a dedicated fryer, so they aren't gluten-free. Service was a bit of a mixed experience. There was definitely a language barrier, which made communication difficult at times--our questions often had to go through multiple staff members before we got an answer. Food came out pretty quickly, which we appreciated since we were in a rush. That said, there were some hits and misses. I ordered tacos al pastor but was given steak tacos instead. I tried to explain the mix-up, but it wasn't resolved, and due to time, I just ate them. Unfortunately, the steak was overcooked and tough, and the tacos themselves were very basic--just meat on a corn tortilla, with extras like sour cream costing more. On the plus side, my nephew really enjoyed his kids' cheese quesadilla and fries (the fries looked crispy and well-made). Someone in our group liked the chorizo quesadilla, and another had the birria tacos and thought they were just okay--nothing standout, especially compared to other places. Pricing felt a bit high for the portion size and overall quality. There is a small parking lot, but we didn't have trouble finding a spot, which is always a plus. Overall, Casa Mezcal was convenient and quick, but between the order mix-up, inconsistent food quality, and communication challenges, it didn't fully hit the mark for us. I'd consider giving it another try if I were in the area, but with adjusted expectations.

The salsa was the first thing tipping me off that we'd stumbled upon was likely a local gem. It's not so thick that I think it's a tomato paste concoction. Tastes like real home made from scratch salsa. Not too much but a very nice kick to it. Peppery, oniony, refreshing punch of lime. The queso hit everything I wanted and wasn't just plain cheese nor was it gritty or plastic-y. Tasted exactly like I expected! Smoky peppers did a lot for flavor here. I was sad not finding my regular burrito from this kinda of establishment. A simple beef burrito smothered in a red sauce of some variety with rice and beans. I asked the server if there was a smothered burrito and he informed me that the combo deal was what I was looking for. In which I got two burritos, rice and beans. The red sauce that my two burritos came smothered in was rich, tangy, oniony and was still nicely acidic from the tomato. You can really tell they taste their food. Burrito Loco that my accomplice ate was also really good. Maybe a little more salt on the veg but that's coming from someone notorious for over salting fries at work. I love salty food, so that's just a personal taste thing. The service was amazing. It all came together when I went into the bathroom, though. It was so clean that it snapped the whole picture together of why this place is so surprisingly good. It's staff genuinely cares about their place of work. Kitchen and front of house alike, everything here was impeccable. You can tell there are people here invested in their workplace. Highly recommend stopping in or frequenting if possible. They had a fun looking drink menu, I just forgot to order my agua fresca Jamaica, so I'm sorry to say I can't report on that.

So I opted not to go because I wanted to experience their atmosphere, customer service and food on a normal day of operation. Fast forward to the evening after Cinco de Mayo. I came in and I was kindly greeted, and since I was flying solo I went to the bartender was quick to greet me, got my chips and salsa to me (which is on the house), and took my drink order. The music was very festive on the inside, the wraparound bar is a nice touch, and the atmosphere overall definitely sets a vibe. I ordered some queso dip cause, why not and it paired nicely with the salsa. I then proceeded to order the Quesabirria Taco dish that was phenomenal and I HIGHLY recommend. The birria consommé that comes with it, it so good so dip those tacos like your tastebuds depend on it. To say the least I am glad I went there the day after Cinco de Mayo and while I'm sure it was a vibe itself, I don't think I would have quite gotten the service and experience I did when they are operating on a normal day. All good things in moderation I guess‍.

The service truly needs to be retrained. I apologize but when I ask for a sour cream it means I want it now, not in 10 minutes. By the time the staff returns, my whole quesadilla will be gone, yet you will still charge me $1 for it. Crazy I won't lie. The staff genuiwnly will not check on their tables for 2-3 business days, so visitors please take that into account. The chefs back there deserve a big kiss but I do not love the attitude and lack of service from the waiters/waitresses. Again, when I ask for a water after finally finding you, it means I want it now. Not in 10 minutes. I'm sorry to be harsh. I hate bringing out my dark side. But I spend hours in this God forsaken place because the staff does not check on their tables. Mind you, please get an AC system- you are doing a disservice to your customers. Other than that, I adore your tacos especially the Baja ones because wow those have a nice little tang to them. Brings me back to Cuba. I really do appreciate the chefs in the back, specially that one cutie with dimples on not one but BOTH sides. lol you're adorable. Please take this as constructive criticism, per the 5 stars (you're welcome( but I am looking for improvements IF I return)). Sending love all the way from my home. Enjoy your Mexican food.

Patrick, the manager on duty came quickly, and was just as pleasant as Sierra. Job well done with these two great employees Santa Fe. You will definitely see us back soon!!!!
