Went to Tijuana for a long weekend to see my favorite artist and in researching tacos spots, El Nuevo Poblano kept popping up so I had to make it my first stop. The tortillas for all tacos are hechas a mano with the exception of the Al pastor but you can ask them for hand made tortillas. I got 2 tacos de asada and a mulita chica de asada. When I tell you everything was HEAVENLY! Tijuana style tacos come with a ton of guacamole so be ready! The meat was incredibly juicy and tender and I ate every last bite. Checked this spot out for the first time yesterday. Have been to TJ several times but never been here before as this spot is a bit further out than most other taco spots in TJ. Got there around 2:30 pm on a Wednesday (15 minute Uber ride from Zona Centro). Place was busy, but there were plenty of seats available both inside and in the outside area. Sat inside and had a waitress take my order. Would be very helpful to know Spanish here (or at least enough to indicate what you want to order and the toppings you want on your tacos) as most of the waiters/waitresses don't speak any English. I ordered three tacos - two carne asada and one adobada. The carne asada tacos were great - would put them right up there with any other carne asada tacos I've ever had in TJ (though maybe not quite as good as Tacos El Franc). The adobada taco was pretty good, though I think it lacked a bit of flavor relative to other adobada tacos I've had in TJ. But it was still good. All of the tacos were well-portioned and filling - you definitely get your money's worth. At the tables, Tacos El Nuevo Poblano had a spicy sauce I really liked - most other taco spots I've been to in TJ don't have a sauce that spicy so I appreciated that as a spicy food lover. Overall, the price came out to 152 pesos for the 3 tacos and a Sprite. When the dollar was stronger vs. the Mexican peso (20 pesos = 1 dollar) this was an excellent deal (basically $7.50 USD for the whole meal). Now with the dollar being weaker (around 16 pesos = 1 dollar) it's less of a deal (nearly $10) but still a very good price. I didn't like the fact that the soda (355 ml or a little more than 12 oz) cost as much as a taco, but that wasn't a big deal honestly. Like most other taco spots in TJ, Tacos El Nuevo Poblano is cash only. I liked this spot more than Tacos El Gordo, though I don't think it's quite as good as Tacos El Franc or Tacos Sonora in Playas. But it's a solid spot, even if a bit out of the way from my usual haunts in TJ, and I'll likely be back in the future! read more

Drove to this place based on the recommendation of Lalo Villar from La Ruta de la Garnacha and boy, it was well worth it. The place is huge and bustling with and army of staff moving on every direction - pipping-hot food traveling to tables all over the place. From the moment you arrive, the sheer view of the meat spits, the smell of fresh steaks on the grills and handmade tortillas is a sight to behold. We went to Tacos el Nuevo Poblano this evening and it was fantastic. Both of us said to each other that they were the best tacos we've had in Tijuana (and we've had a lot of tacos). I had the carne asada tacos and they were filled with amazingly juicy asada, cilantro, onions and a big serving of tasty guacamole. My partner had the adobada tacos and they were amazing as well. It's a simple menu but they do a stellar job with the meats they specialize in. There was no line when we arrived but by the time we left there were a lot of people waiting to be seated. Tacos el Nuevo Poblano is a little further out from the typical tourist haunts since it's located in the Buena Vista area but it's well worth the slightly longer drive for the authentic food. We found the service to be friendly and prompt - all employees were busily working. From what we could tell there is only street parking in the neighborhood. Massive tacos. Freshest corn tortilla I've ever eaten. Soft and super thin. Basically just a vessel to hold everything in. Carne saada is a little fatty but you can barely tell. A mountain of fresh guacamole covers everything. You can't go wrong here. read more

We ran into my hubby's coworker while in Tj, so he took us to what he thought is the best place for tacos! I was excited to try them out. Since it was past midnight, he said there weren't as many people as there normally would be- it was still pretty busy to me. There were two trompos of al pastor, and men grilling carne asada and a variety of other meats. I decided to order 2 tacos al pastor, a carne asada mulita, and a bottle of horchata. Everyone else ordered lots of tacos. There isn't much seating here, so everyone pretty much just stands around and eats. There are some condiments available, so I splashed some lime and added hot sauce to my tacos. The tacos were actually very tasty! I also enjoyed the mulita, but not as much as the tacos. Tried to find a spot to eat not too far from the Tijuana airport and this came up with great reviews. Definitely not in a touristy area so you won't find it just strolling around. It's a smaller place but tables are big so multiple groups can share. The staff was super attentive, got our orders super quick and checked in on us multiple times. I tried the tacos al pastor and the quesadilla de asada (Grande to share). Everything was delicious. The meats have great flavor but not extra flavored where you can't taste the meat. Man these tacos were super ! I got like 8 carne asada tacos and the taste in the meat was so much different from the U.S. lol. They were pretty big tacos too nothing small about it and only cost 230 pesos (13 dollars) and it was well worth it .
