The menu was very easy to read and even though they don't have a lot of options I liked that they are able to focus on the things they do offer. Everything was so good. After a funeral, my wife's family invited everyone to gather for lunch. The restaurant was small but very clean, and we truly appreciated how well they accommodated our large party of about 30 people. The staff was welcoming and handled everything smoothly. Told my husband this is supposed to be the best taco place in Horizon. We gave it a shot- ordered multiple tacos. The tortillas were good, the meat was pretty dry and lacked flavor. One of the salsas was spicy but had way too much salt. It was hardly edible while the other was watery and okay flavor profile wise. The restaurant was hot but at least they served ice cold coca cola. It was clean, although a little run down. Honestly the runned down is fine if the food matches the ambience but over all it was a let down. So what were the ups? Great service. If you're in a hurry and need something edible than it works. Good tacos but horrible service. Only 2 tables full when my husband and I Walked in. The other table with 2 people and another table with 6 people who were mostly finished eating but still talking. Ordered, food came out, no one came by to ask for refills or how everything was going while we were eating. I needed a refill of lemonade and more salsa but still continued eating, thinking someone would eventually come by. I finished and still couldn't get anyone to come by to ask for a box to take the leftovers. The other tables received service just fine, the cooks saw me trying to get their attention or someone's attention and still nothing, this went on for about 10 minutes. Someone saw me trying to call someone and called out the number of my table. Still, no one came by. By this time an employee was talking to the table of 6 who were leaving. They seemed to know each other. Finally I was able to flag a lady down and asked her for a box. She left walked around for a bit, and by this time I was annoyed. I picked up my 2 tacos and wrapped them in a napkin. Hey everything is expensive nowadays and I really like their tacos. Right before I got to the register she came up with a box and the salsa. I told her I didn't need the box but took the salsa. I'm never going back as much as I like the tacos. Grear authentic Mexican food and priced well. We got 4 tacos (2 al pastor and 2 carne asada) which came with a baked potato, grilled green onions, cilantro, lime and salsa. The tacos are smaller than "normal", and were pretty good. Also got the queso which comes with 5 small corn tortillas. The queso had bits of jalapeno and chorizo, and was so delicious! It was just a bit difficult to eat when wrapped in tin foil. As the cheese hardens, you can't scrape off the cheese very easily without tearing the foil. The lady taking our order was super friendly and helpful. She even gave us horchata on the house when we came back to pick up our food. read more

Absolutely the best authentic mexican food I have EVER had, no joke. The simplicity in it with it being mostly tacos and quesadillas, it was just simply amazing. It was absolutely what me and my spouse needed on our travels through Texas ! Not to mention the service was amazing ! They were so polite to us, checked on us throughout our meal it was refreshing. Just enough grease to make you feel official. A Bite More: Mix and match your order with different choice of meats. Carne asada is beef, nice mix of spices with a slight taste of soy sauce. Al pastor is pork, a tasty mix of red chilies and spices. Mucho Bueno! No beer, no real dessert, but there is a great mexican bakery across the street. Also order an avocado on the side, a classic mexican coke, and torreadas (roasted jalapeño) Aya aya ya! Dine in for a quick meal, they are faster than speedy Gonzales. Since we began eating at Tacos El Charly, we have not had a bad meal. The service is friendly and courteous. We hardly ever wait more than ten minutes for our food. My grandchildren can be fussy about their food, but they enjoy their tacos and queso with chorizo. The place is clean and the drinks are cold. I see people walk in with beer, so I guess you bring in your own alcohol. There is entertainment on the weekends. It does get pretty busy starting on Friday. The place is packed and their take-out station is filled to the max with people picking up their orders. Tacos El Charly is reasonably priced and a great place for a family on a budget. Went here on a suggestion from a regular. Not much to look at from the outside and an interesting interior as well. There wast much going on where the cooks were, so I'm not even sure where the food was cooked. So, this was my first time getting a potato with Mexican food and it came with a very large pat of butter/margarine. Nothing special about it, it is just a potato though. We decided on the crispy tripitas and al pastor tacos. The tripitas were quite crispy, but did have that "could be cleaner" taste to them. The al pastor was very tasty as well. The spotlight for me was the green salsa. Very tasty with a decent kick of heat to it, which is usually not as spicy as other salsa, but a very welcome addition. I could definitely use more of it. Papa asada and the tacos are always my go to when I come to this place. My kids love the tacos and the quesadillas. Before Covid it was also a nice place to go to for live music and karaoke. For some regular looking tacos I will say tacos El Charly is extremely addicting. This place started off as a small food truck only open a few days out of the week and weekends then eventually into a tiny five table little shack and now into a full blown restaurant. Tacos el Charly has some greasy little tacos that you know can't be good for your effort to remove those love handles but damn are they delicious !!! The tacos al pastor with some chile' negra as they call it are some of the best tacos I have ever had. Don't believe me try some and see if you can resist coming back. Now I'm not talking to all the healthy I only eat salad everywhere I go people, if your one of those stay far far away from here! Tacos El Charly is in Horizon but worth the trip. Depending on where your coming from I'd say try taking Joe battle to the pellicano exit east toward Horizon then turn rite on Darrington instead of driving all the way out to i10. You will eventually end up on Horizon Blvd and tacos el Charly is in a yellow building on the left at the four way light. Ps: if you look at the name it's called tacos El Charly not rice and beans el Charly not burritos el Charly so dnt expect to find a full blown Mexican chain restaurant menu !!! This place was really good! We came on a Sunday at noon. We had the 4 carne asada tacos and 4 tacos of each meat. It comes with a baked potato and all the fixings for the tacos (grilled onions, cilantro, radish slices and lime). And then we split a small menudo which was really tasty! I like my menudo with a dark red color and a good kick to it... and they had that here. Service was great (Thanks Pablo), the TVs had football games on and you seat yourself.
