Just moved to El Paso, and have been on the hunt for a reasonably priced, authentic Mexican food restaurant. Who knew it was right under our noses only a couple blocks away. Had the arrchemera, Barbacoa, and another one I can't pronounce that was like steak with onions and bell peppers. So I've been here before and I've not been all that impressed. The food does have nice flavor. I'll give them that and I've got a great salsa bar. In fact, my tongue is still burning from the chipotle sauce. But I ordered the two chicken tacos and the two Carnitas tacos and they were eight dollars total. I thought that was a little high. Then I ordered a quesadilla which was five dollars and I asked if they could make it with chicken a little did I know that they added chicken for another four dollars so my $13 bill went to almost $18 and I was saying to myself as I'm walking to the car it's awfully small amount of food with tax for 20 bucks. Tripitas were too chewy for my liking but edible. Sirloin also lacked in flavor but was goodish. Green sauce was pretty good, made the tacos taste much better. Sunday morning we decided to go get us some menudo at Don Cuco. The line wasn't bad, was able to place order within a few minutes of getting there. The menudo came out fairly soon. So the menudo was flavorful but a bit too spicy for my taste. Had to put plenty of lime juice to cut the spiciness a bit. Don't take me wrong, i do enjoy spicy food but not to the point that I am on fire, and I felt I was on fire for a few seconds while eating the menudo. I would definitely go back for some more menudo just hope next time its not too spicy. The horchata was a bit too sweet for my taste, but my daughter did really like it. I was pleasantly surprised by this place. I was actually on my way to get tacos elsewhere, when I decided to see what this place is all about. I'm actually really glad I stopped in I'll admit, my Spanish is absolutely horrible. With that said, I had plenty of questions since the only thing I recognized on their menu was "burger" and "quesadilla." I was in the mood for steak tacos and luckily one of those translated to it. I guess the tacos here could be classified as street tacos, so when you place an order for tacos, all it comes with is four tortillas with whichever meat you chose. No change here folks this keeps on being the worse Don Cucos in town. They just down graded from 2 stars to 1. I live close to here so it's convenient but I regret it every time. The food greasy, I mean damn even my tortillas were greasy. You all do know what that means right? It means they don't clean the grill as often as they should which is kinda of gross if you think about it.... The meat, well half of it was burnt and the other half was flavorless. Honestly the best part of the meal was the beer. This place is disorganized, dirty, and it does not even come close to the other locations. This time really is the last time no more chances! From now on I'll drive my butt down to the Alameda and Americas location, because that place never disappoints. I know the two locations are owned by different owners, but the difference shouldn't be so noticeable. It just gives the brand a bad name in my opinion. I highly recommend you don't even bother with this place, even the Montwood location is much better and not that far away from this one. The first time I went there, the staff were awesome and the food was delicious. So I took my sister there and she loves it too. My kids love their barbacoa tacos and their carne asada tacos. This place is what I've been looking for when it comes to good tacos and salsa, being from Cali and knowing how good food can be. They have a variety of meat you can ask for an order that consist of 4 tacos, half a pound that in served with about 10 tortillas, or if you have a big appetite go for the pound of meat. If you feel like grabbing the meat and going home to cook it they also sell it cold, onto their choices of salsas, It's UH-MAZING. They have chopped up cucumber, guacamole, lemon, Pico de gallo, onions, and green to red salsas. This was my second time here. My husband usually likes it but day was bleh! We got the potatoes which were floating in a pool of butter. We also got some mini tacos and they were out of what we ordered so they just substituted something. Everything was hard and over cooked. My face broke out the next day from all the grease. It comes with a heavy heart when i have to write a review as bad as this one. I first tried don cuco on alameda ave, I ordered tripas and thats all they gave me tortilla and dried up tripas and no they were not crunchy or chewy like they are supposed to be but dry and in a tortilla. The condiment station was plentyful but unsanitary! People using theyre hands and even some of the workers doing the same. Lost my appetite completely. I decided hey one bad experience should not make dom cuco bad. I decide to go here, the one on Edgemere......walked in and a short fat lady had thr ugliest scowl on her face and said que qiueras in a rude voice. She had a terrible attitude. I ordered the campechana and it look amazing! I tasted and it was good until i started to notice a soggy texture and sorta soggy tomatoish and sure enough the tomatoes were not fresh, thr oysters in side where rubbery, the octopus was half frozen. I am not satisfied at all with this place. WORST RESTAURANT CHAIN IN TEXAS! never had such terrible wanna be mexican food in my life! This was the first place I ate when I arrived in El Paso. The thing that sold me was that they serve menudo everyday which is a big plus for me. The steak tacos were very dry and tasted nothing like Carne Asada. The cashier lady was very nice but the lil teenage waitress was super horrible at waitressing and lacked in manners and greetings. I think some other reviewers accidentally tried to order tacos at the meat market next door - cuz this place is Awesome (yes I meant to capitalize). I've been coming to the Edgemear location since it opened and I've never had a bad meal or talked to an employee who was anything but helpful and or nice. So onto my favorite topic- the food. The pastor and pollo tacos are what the kids usually order and I love the barbacoa. Every bite I've stolen from the kids has been delicious (always get the pineapple with the pastor).
