It is never enjoyable to write a one star review, but Tacos Cancun was the most disappointing meal I've had in a long time. I chose Tacos Cancun because it has vegan options alongside non-vegan options. My fiance and I got the two taco combo plate & an additional taco to try all three vegan meat options, horchata, vegan asada nachos, Burrito with Soyrizo, & he got the non-vegan California Burrito. I'm going to write just about the vegan options: The fake chicken and beef meats and cheese (sprinkled on tacos & sauce for nacho cheese) were overwhelmingly artificial and processed. The beans & rice lacked flavor. Even with salsa, the tacos were dry. The chips were over fried (this might just be preference or preparation, but I haven't had chips that fried before). The horchata was like drinking sugar. It was creamy, but one sip was too much for me (but like the chips, this might just be my preference to have way less sweetener in horchata). The Soyrizo did have good flavor. We were hoping that maybe their non-vegan items would be better for my fiancé's sake, but he said his California Burrito was unfortunately quite dry too. There is outdoor seating available. Even with dining in, food is served on one-time use disposable plates with plastic utensils. We will not be going back to Tacos Cancun. Bummer! read more

I absolutely love Tacos Cancun. I'm not from the area, but on the few occasions I go to the beach and have the funds, I try my best to stop by Tacos Cancun! I've been going since 2017, and I sure hope that I wouldn't have to stop. My only issue is that as somebody who's not local, I've had trouble finding out the times that they ARE open. I've tried bringing friends and family around the evening time, around at least 2 hours before said closing time on google, yelp, and on the sign, however each time it's been closed ): . Their food is amazing, full of flavor, and good quality ingredients. On the few occasions I've gotten to introduce my friends (outside of california) to Mexi-Cali food, they've loved it! I've had wonderful conversations with the staff, and the owners/cooks do make accommodations towards your food preferences! I do hope to comeback and enjoy their food, but it would be nice to have an update on the open-closing times that are consistent and shown somewhere. *Sidenote, I do not follow any of their social media(if they have any), so this review on the opening/closing times can be a bit skewed, but any feedback would be greatly appreciated as to why it seems as though the times aren't consistent! I do understand that it's a small business, so I'll try my best to show my respect and support in anyway that I can. I hope to come back again sometime soon! read more

This is exactly what vegans mean when we say we want vegan options!!! I adore this place and stop by whenever I can. Their vegan options are not just a side thought, you can basically make ANYTHING VEGAN!! They have different fake meats, vegan cheese and sour cream. My friend who isn't vegan and I both had carne asada fries and you literally couldn't tell the difference looking at our plates. The owner is the sweetest cutest thing alive, it's right on the beach and in such an amazing part of newport super close to the balboa ferry. Truly one of my favorite restaurants in Orange County. read more

Perfect post beach bite! We stopped by this taco spot about 30 minutes before closing after a long beach day, and I'm so glad we did! Even though it was close to closing time, the staff welcomed us with the friendliest service and got our order taken care of with no rush or attitude--which we really appreciated. We ordered flautas, tacos, and burgers with fries, and everything hit the spot. The food came out quickly, fresh, and full of flavor. It was exactly what we needed after being in the sun all day--comforting, satisfying, and just plain good. Highly recommend this place if you're looking for a chill, welcoming spot to refuel near the beach. We'll definitely be back! read more

Great authentic food, perfect spot to sit and enjoy the sun. We got the chorizo, egg and potato burrito, a fish taco, an asada burrito added egg, and the chicken enchiladas. Their salsa is really good, too! It's a nice pit stop for food if you enjoy real Mexican food. Service was awesome. Listen... I'm not saying this place wasn't great because my chicken tacos were fire, and the service was fast and the hostess was nice. But about an hour or two later, my stomach started singing the Jaws theme song and it's been downhill ever since. I'm currently writing this from the toilet. My friend and I went together, and now we're bonding through what can only be described as a mutual exorcism. The walls are thin. Our friendship is strong. Our intestines? Not so much. Would I go back? Probably. Would I bring Pepto and say goodbye to my dignity in advance? Also yes. Come for the flavor. Stay because you physically can't leave. *******UPDATE: This is my sixth time on the toilet in 12 hours. Do you know how much awkwardness and embarrassment those two tacos have caused me? I am traveling with my friend and her family, and my friend, her mom, and I are all sharing one bathroom upstairs connected to her mom's room. Also, I was not joking when I said the walls of this house are paper thin. You can hear a PIN drop with the doors all shut and the bathroom fan on. Anyway, I literally had a dream last night that we went to the store and got Pepto-Bismol for me. I can't leave the house in my current state, therefore my friend's angel of a mother is running to get Imodium for me. TLDR: these tacos have made me diarrhea and diarrhea and diarrhea and diarrhea and diarrhea and diarrhea and I'm on vacation and I'm away from my family and I'm toilet-ridden. So to revise my review, those tacos were nowhere near worth it. What an experience. I have to go shit again. read more

Great little place right by the beach. Staff is super friendly and the chili verde burrito was fantastic. My wife who is GF & DF got pork tacos & chips w/guacamole and she raves about the guacamole and was happy with her tacos (smothered in guacamole) Probably the best part was we took everything and walked 2 mins to the beach which wasn't crowded at all and had a zillion $ view meal for less than $30. The fact that my wife asked to do it again the next night should probably tell you all you need to know! read more

Very very good lunch today in Newport Beach. After my bike ride I stopped in Tacos Cancun and was greeted promptly by Tina the owner and she nicely invited me in for a good lunch unlike other restaurants I frequent that get angry if you dont go in to eat and drink. I ordered a chicken burrito that was amazing and a good size for a guy like me. Also ordered the guacamole that was perfectly made. They have lots of different hot sauces and salsa to choose from to. I sat outside at a table and enjoyed the scenery and cool air and talked to the owner Tina who really cares about her restaurant and what people think when they eat here. Tina is a very courteous and prompt owner that cares about the food quality. Tina is also a good person to talk to if your looking into real-estate because she is a realtor and she can answer your questions. The food and prices here are good and so is the food. read more

We stopped by here looking for lunch after some time on the beach. The owner was so helpful and friendly. We ordered tacos, a torta, and "custom" tacos for my daughter who's a bit picky. Place sucks and the guy at the register has an attitude. He also doesn't speak English well enough to run a store front. My wife ordered cheese enchiladas and they served them within 2 minutes of ordering them and the cheese was still cold, not even melted. I tried to explain it to him and he looked at me like I was stupid and I just told him I want my money back and we left. read more

The only reason I came to try the food here at Tacos Cancun was because they were intentionally ignoring new customers at Cabo Cantina due to the odd middle-hour at which we had walked in. Nonetheless, I came in hoping for some bomb taco Tuesday deals, and I was disappointed in every way, shape, and form. When we first walked in, the noticably small dining room seemed extremely tense, and the cashier appeared irritated that we would even enter the establishment at the time. He appeared upset that we were ordering anything, and the kitchen staff themselves seemed irked that we were there as well. I'm not sure why everyone was feeling some type of way that day, but we felt unwelcome nonetheless. I paid $33 for ten tacos, and for that kind of price on a taco Tuesday I would expect to receive some topnotch culinary experiences. Alas, all of the food was barely above average, and certainly not worth more than I'd be paying at better, larger, more welcoming restaurants. Though the ambiance matches a cute little seaside adobe feel, the ads consistently playing over whatever app they use for their generic soundtracks was a little jarring. It would have gone unnoticed had the overall experience been better. I won't be returning here, and it saddens me to even have to write a negative review for an establishment in one of my favorite areas. read more

Tacos Cancun was delicious and cute! As vegetarians, we were able to order anything we could want from the menu bc there are options for every item. I highly recommend the fries w/soyrizo. The owner happened to be there and was so sweet. Talked us through our options and gave us tips on her favorite items as a vegan. We sat outside and got to watch the sunset on the beach. We even brought an extra burrito back to the hotel for snacking. We would go back the next time we're in Newport Beach! read more

Our food came out quick hot and delicious. The owner Tina was so friendly, knowledgeable and entertaining. Would definitely recommend and come back again. This place was great! I went here with some friends after the beach. I got a burger and fries with a coke for a nice price. Then after got a bag of tortilla chips that were super good like the best I have ever had. The service was quick and we were all eating within 15 minutes and the employees were so kind. We sat outside of the restaurant which was a nice view and the inside atmosphere was decorated cool. Definitely 10/10 would recommend. read more

The ingredient ratios (ie rice to beans) is perfect while many other burrito places seem to use beans as the filler ingredient. I never enjoy a burrito with only beans as the main attraction. Their fajita vegetables are flavorful, same as their al pastor. I've tried the shrimp one time, and I'm not a fan of the seafood ingredients. Especially love adding the extra $ corn and I know it's mentioned as a limited edition side dish:garnish, so I hope they keep it on their menu. Overall, the flavors and of each ingredient is consistently delicious. I'm very late to having tried Chronic Tacos locations, but better late than never. Once again, thank you for helping make dinner an easy (and delicious) solution, especially as we rarely make it home early enough to cook. I used to have only Taco Bell to pick from getting home so late everything else was closed. Back here in the OC, with so many variety of delicious restaurants, I find myself still gravitating to as many different Chronic Tacos locations depending on whichever OC city I happen to be visiting.
