    Fish Taco & Tuna Taco
    Allie G.

So worth the hype! We arrived at Tacofino 15 minutes before they opened, and there was already a group waiting in line. The food truck was covered in stickers, and had a small outdoor seating area, which no one was using due to the rain. The menu was pretty small, and the recommendation was to get 2 tacos if you're hungry, and 3 if you're starving. I ordered the Fish Taco and Tuna Taco, and my boyfriend chose the Pacific Cod Burrito. Once we ordered, we were given a buzzer, so that we could wait in the car. The food took longer than expected, but was absolutely worth the wait. Both my tacos were fantastic! The pacific cod in my Fish Taco was so perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and went great with the chipotle mayo and salsa fresca. The Tuna Taco had a sesame glaze and two large pieces of pickled ginger. I was worried the ginger would be too much, but it was the perfect amount for the tuna. My boyfriend also loved the Pacific Cod Burrito, and we left happy and full. Would totally return in the future!

Tacofino is a very popular food truck in or near Tofino. The food is super fresh and tasty. I have to say it lives up to the hype. Waiting times can be a concern. When it's crowded you can expect to wait up to 30min in queue.

Fish tacos. Cost is $7.75 for one. I got two.

Tacofino is the Mecca of Canadian west coast tacos. Coming in a winter month definitely means a shorter wait but it's worth it regardless of how long the wait is. The fish tacos are absolutely unbelievable. They have the most perfect batter that is deep-fried to crispy perfection and the slaw and salsa on top vibe really well with the deep fried fish and creamy sauce. One fish taco cost $7.75 and it was recommended to me to order two in order to be full. I think I was a bit caught off guard by the price but after receiving it and eating it and seeing the size I understood. It wasn't just a dainty taco for the price. My husband got the chicken burrito for $15 which he devoured and thought was excellent and delicious. He found the guacamole in the burrito to really hit the spot as well as the sauce that went with the chicken. I have to admit eating fish tacos in the winter is a little difficult. I guess I have to say eating fish tacos after it has rained is very difficult and especially when the serving bowl is tinier than the two tacos.. Burritos are easier to eat in your hand anywhere but tacos require a table and a seat and unfortunately all the seats were wet and tables damp or covered in bird poop. We ended up scooting onto the corner of a semi wet table and unfortunately my taco lost a lot of its toppings. The crows were happy though. Anyways, if you are in Tofino definitely come check out this original Tacofino location. I can't quite recall if the Vancouver locations are as delicious as this food truck.

july 2025...new truck exterior looks brighter, cleaner & more appealing...but why can't they build a bigger kitchen to serve food faster?!!! today's wait was 45m to order and another 30m for the food. the miso taco was surprisingly delicious!! the pork gringa with kimchi was good, but don't order kimchi next time, because it's served cold and cools down the hot and crispy taco. the watermelon freshie with basil was great...a refreshing fruit slushy.

Tacofino was recommended to us by multiple friends. After a long day of kayaking in Tofino, we couldn't not try it - it is said to be a Tofino staple. The tacos themselves were great. I wouldn't say they're the most authentic tacos, but we really enjoyed the flavors and the quality of the ingredients. We ordered a fish taco, a beef taco, the pork and kimchi gringa, and the watermelon basil freshie. All of them were very flavorful and tasted really fresh. The truck was super cute and it seemed like a popular spot - it was pretty busy even on a weekday in the late afternoon. BUT.. Although the tacos were good, the wait was SO heinous that we ended up feeling like the tacos weren't worth the wait. We waited almost 40 minutes for 3 tacos, and it was a pretty windy and chilly day so the wait experience wasn't the most pleasant either. There is a line to order, and an even longer wait to get your actual food. Their serving system is just so inefficient -- your food is made (which takes forever) and set on a counter and then an employee comes out of the truck to a small stand in front of the truck, to then "prepare" your order and finally call your name. I didn't really understand the point of this "middle person," and this extraneous step between you and your food added an extra 3-5 minutes (sometimes the employee would delay in coming out) to each customer's order. It adds up, and feels simply heartbreaking to get your hopes up seeing a row of tacos on the counter only for them to be slowly "prepared" and your name still not called. Waiting for almost 40 minutes only to finish our food in less than 10 felt so bad. That being said, we're glad we tried this spot. The tacos were really great and I do recommend trying them, but beware of a long, long wait!

Grab yourself a large bottle of water as things are salty at Tacofino. Perhaps it was just a heavy-handed chef making my order, but I found the soy marinade in the tuna-ta taco ($8.50) so prominent that it was all I could taste (my friend, on the other hand, found theirs fine). It could be that the tuna wasn't seared long enough so that the soy didn't have a chance to burn off and caramelize, the fish tasted like it was dunked in soy and quickly swished onto the flat top, so it was barely warm. Along with the heap of pickled ginger and wakame (sweet seaweed salad), this taco is certainly bold in flavours. It's a shame as the tuna taco would have been outstanding if the condiments weren't so overpowering. Despite the decent portion of tuna stuffed into the taco, I could barely taste it. The Baja-style fish taco ($7.50) was better. The batter was thick but helps to soak up the chipotle mayonnaise and keep the shredded cabbage and pico de gallo adhered to the tortilla. Again, it incorporated some good flavours, and the tempura ling cod was flaky and fried to perfection. Both are sizeable tacos and would have been sufficient to leave me satisfied. Yet, after waiting so long, I was ravenous and added a pork and kimchi gringa ($8). What exactly is a gringa you ask? To me, they are like quesadillas, but according to Taro Sushi Brooklyn there are three differences between the two toasted tacos: gringas are traditionally eaten cold, filled with beans and cheese, thicker and flatter, and made using wheat flour tortillas. Gringas are also from Mexico while quesadillas originate from Spain. At Tacofino, their pork and kimchi gringa includes a cheese and slow-cooked pork filling (not just beans) and it is hot (not cold) and toasted until there is a lovely golden crust... the ideal first bite after waiting outside in the cold for so long. Out of the three, this was my favourite. The filling so rich as the juices and grease from the pork and cheese mix together with the pickled kimchi to create a messy gooey bite that is a hit of flavours. Gringa or quesadilla? Who cares, just get it.

Visiting the original Tacofino food truck is definitely an attraction in Tofino. The line was just over an hour long around lunch time over the long weekend, but the whole process was very well organized. There's also a washroom right by the line which was great. The staff were all super friendly and very helpful with any questions and they even have a FAQ board next to the menu. Be aware that the food takes quite awhile even after ordering before it is ready. The tacos were super delicious and mostly worth the wait. I'd definitely recommend visiting if you care that this is their original location. Otherwise, it might be quite frustrating to line up for something that would be much quicker elsewhere. There are also other fish tacos nearby without the lines.

Tacos were good but were they worth the hour and a half wait? Not so much. Although the tacos were quite unique (never had ginger on a tuna taco before) Although visiting the original tacofino was part of the experience, I'm not sure I would get it again unless I went at a time with hardly a line.

My family and I were looking for some local cuisine and came across this wonderful place! The Food Truck it's self was festive and fun! Full of stickers and very clean! I had to stop for a picture. I loved the outdoor seating on picnic benches. It gave that authentic food truck feel! Everyone was kind and very knowledgeable about the menu! You could ask them anything and they were more than happy to help. The food was fresh and incredible! Everything is made in house and prepared with local ingredients. You could taste the passion that was put into creating this creative menu. I would suggest this place to anyone! It has that fresh ocean taste! Tater Tots with buttermilk chili créma sauce. These tots are crispy and crunchy on the outside. Yet, flaky on the inside. Which, gives them that addictive quality that makes you dream about them! They were super flavorful with the perfect amount of salt! Fried to perfection! The Buttermilk chili créma was spicy, tangy, and zesty. A truly one of a kind flavor. It kept you coming back for more! All and all loved this! The Tempura Ling Cod Tacos were absolutely incredible! I'd tell everyone that you have to try this! The cod was fresh and delicate. The tempura is crispy and crunchy on the outside. Yet, the fish is flakey and moist on the inside! The chipotle mayo was zesty, spicy, and light. It added a nice rich creamy balanced flavor to the dish. The salsa Fresca was bright and tangy! It was well balanced and very colorful too! The fresh cabbage added a sweet crisp crunch that made the taco addictive! And that squeeze of fresh lime tied the whole taco together! The flour tortilla was cooked to perfection and held in every last once of the very full big taco! I savored every last bite! They definitely give you the best bang for you buck! It was perfectly balanced and left you wanting more. Even though, I was full!

We had to try the original location. Despite it being a rainy day, there was a line but we were not disappointed. My girlfriend also said that the tacos were bigger and the fish tacos were much better than the ones in Vancouver. Be sure to get extra napkins because they load the tacos (especially for the Fish Tacos) Crispy Chicken They were good but nothing too special Fish These were great. It was crispy, soft, flaky, with a great amount of toppings to compliment the fish. Tuna This was my favourite. Thought the flavour combination was great with perfectly seared tuna, seaweed salad, ginger, and some sauce that has a hint of wasabi. We also got the Chocolate Diablo cookie which was a decent size with a good amount of gooeyness while the edges felt like those slightly hard edges on brownies. It was finished with some salt and had a little bit of spicy kick to it as well. The ordering process was smooth and I would definitely order again. Just a note though: Although you can ask to have it adjusted, they do have an automatic 10% gratuity which wasn't really explained why but just something to keep in mind.

This is the second time we've been here after first finding it about 6 years ago and it's just as…read moregood as we remember, maybe better. This is no ordinary food truck, it's a gourmet meal in a take out box. Better than what you'd find in quite a lot of restaurants, so you are absolutely paying for quality here but it's sooooo worth it! First tip, it does take time to make the meals, 20-45 mins depending on when you order and how many are ahead. So either prepare to go for a walk or call in your order ahead. Now the food, I think they're famous for their ribs which we've had both times. A sticky, crispy, gooey mess of deliciousness that will have you scraping down the box for every last drop. It's a honey, soy, garlic type mix and came with 5 pieces. We went with a herbed chicken and Brie burger combo with polenta fries. The Burger was certainly tasty, with a special sauce and topped with lettuce, tomato, pickles etc. No ketchup and mayo here. But I have to say I got slight food envy at the sight of the crispy Korean fried chicken burger. That looked crisped to perfection and I was told not too spicy so I'll be trying that next time. And polenta fries, crispy delicious polenta in equally shaped large fries with a sweet mayo type dipping sauce. Crunchy on the outside and creamy on the inside. Not something you'll find elsewhere anytime soon. Delicious. And I haven't even touched on the albacore seared tuna salad! Upon opening the box you'll be taken by the presentation, it looks just as good as it tastes. A generous portion of large tuna slices on a mix of well dressed rice, salad leaves and mixed diced salad veg. I liked the crunch of the bean sprouts along side everything else. Order a few things and share it family style for the best sampling. It is a food truck in an industrial type car park with one table, but I'd suggest finding a place you intend to eat like a nearby park bench or picnic table and grab it to go. Hands down one of the best food trucks I've ever been to. Indeed one of the best, most memorable meals I've had in a while. If you're in the area, absolutely come here, you will be happy you did!

The entire place felt elevated but cozy - our table was upstairs under beautiful wooden beams and big windows overlooking the town. The vibe was lively but not too loud on a Tuesday evening. No big deal since we weren't in a rush but something to note that it could be hit or miss. The food, on the other hand, was 100% on point.
