I specified "white cheese". The beef was tender and had good flavor and seasoning. I used the provided red salsa and found it a unique taste that went well with it. The tortilla appeared to be grocery store packaged kind.. The chicken one seemed burnt and had an off taste. It was ok, but not what I expected. Seasoning was barely there but the green salsa helped a lot. Overall, not bad, not expensive but probably not something I'd go back for more of. I enjoy their food. Especially the carne gusada. Sometimes I'll get the tex mex plate, one taco and 2 cheese enchiladas. Or the cheese enchiladas with carne gusada. But all is good. This is great taco spot tucked away from the crowds. The inside is small and it's "seat yourself" and pay at the counter when done. The staff was very friendly. I ordered the "Taco suicide" that comes with bean, cheese, bacon, eggs, and mix of onions and peppers. It was so good! I have mixed emotions about this place. The food was ok, I ordered 2 tacos chicharron and egg and Edd a la mexicana. The chicharrón was either pickled or soft; not your normal crispy chicharrón. Food is 2 star flavor but customer service is 4 stars. This is a very tiny location. There isn't much seating here. I had a super tiny portion in my tacos, I felt like I had 2 times the size tortilla than actual food. I got shorted. When the ham and egg taco is almost better than the carne guisada taco you have a problem. I would say the tacos here are only really good if you're really hungry. Taco Tex has great chorizo breakfast tacos. They open early and take out tacos took less than 5 minutes. The tacos are cooked fresh as you order. They have plenty of tables if you choose to dine in. This is your neighborhood Taco place, nothing fancy just simple and comfortable. But, it's also the kinda place you'd go outta your way to get the food from cuz it's just that good and you KNOW it will taste the same way today as it was yesterday and will also tomorrow. The main reason for that is consistency! The same employees have worked in this small but large enough establishment for as long as I can remember. They are always courteous, friendly and typically remember your order, if you're the same as me, and order the same thing 95% of the time! Scary if you think of the amt of customers they serve daily, weekly etc. and for someone to remember your order is amazing. The menu is what you'd typically find in a Tex- Mex restaurant, I used to try different things when we first started going there, UNTIL I decided to take the plunge and try their Al Pastor mini tacos (if you're used to getting them from a restaurant that does them right and they taste good and try them at another place that has no clue, you get skittish to try new places) they come 5 mini corn tacos to an order (other options besides the Al pastor- asada, carnitas, barbacoa, chicken fajita) and they're topped with minced white onion and cilantro and served with grilled onions, sliced avocado & lime wedge on side. Once I tried them, I was hooked because they are as good as my favorite place to order Al pastor mini tacos (exception is they aren't served with charro beans on the side, but you could add them at an extra charge). I visited this place as I was looking for a place for tacos as I went to work on this side of town. I saw the great reviews so I had to stop by and get some. Well, I'm sad to say I was really disappointed by taste of the tacos and the tortillas. I could be wrong but I know homeMade tortillas when I taste and smell them and these tasted like store bought tortillas. My employees all said the same thing. These don't taste as good as others and the tortillas taste store bought. My only reason for the two stars is that the ladies at the restaurant were so nice and friendly and amazing. However, the food left a lot of be desired. Maybe it was just my visit and my tacos but hard to say. If you are looking for really tasty Mexican food with superb service in a laid back, casual environment, this is the spot. Wifey and I were turned into this restaurant by a fellow bar stool jockey one late night. We ventured in the next day in need of replenishment after the night before's shenanigans. The restaurant has about 20 tables and is laid out in a traditional strip mall restaurant fashion. It's either an order to go or sit and eat type of place. We were quickly seated and serviced right away. Chips and salsa (complimentary) came out with our drinks (non alcoholic). Excellent taste to both. Oh, and the drinks....large man sized glasses...not 4 drinks and you need a refill sized- Our food was delivered to our table in less then ten minutes. Our order came out hot, delicious and exactly the way we ordered it. The portions were very filling. Wifey had a pecidilo plate which came with beans, rice and tortillas. From what I sampled, everything was prepared perfectly and tasted great. I had 3 different types of tacos (barbacoa, chicken fajitas and chicken fajitas with beans and avocado). Each one was presented, prepared perfectly and were delicious. 2 different types of chili accompany your meal, which are a green and red sauce. Both were great. Once finished, we walked up to the register to pay. At the register, you'll find a "convince store counter style" of product to purchase which ranged from gum to baked desert treats. The price point for our meal was on point with most other causal restaurants. $. A few things at the register: We were asked how our food and experience was dinning at the restaurant...A+ in my book. This place isn't bad. Authentic tacos that are good sized too. They have daily breakfast specials that included tacos and a plate. They are not as cheap as a regular taqueria but not as expensive as other Tex mex taco places nearby (tacos n salsa). As a common dish to eat amongst restaurants I found the serving size of meat was lacking. The beans were off color that I'm use to. I visit this restaurant often for Breakfast. Do not expect a fancy big place, there's is about 10 tables in this place, the place is small, clean and prices are just right.
