This review is for Taco Real's delivery, not their dine-in. Their deliveries have consistently been prompt and accurate. They've gotten my order correct each time, and it has always arrived within 30-45 minutes of placing the order. Their tacos have rapidly become my go-to when I want fast and delicious order-in option. I particularly enjoy their pollo (chicken), carne asada (steak), and lengua (tongue....yes really). I always remember to order their tacos Mexican style, which is onions and cilantro (instead of cheese, lettuce, and tomatoes). As far as I can tell, the tacos are pretty authentic. I've also become hooked on their pupusas. A pupusa is a traditional Salvadoran dish made with a thick handmade corn tortilla and served with a variety of fillings. Taco Real is authentic, delicious, efficient and prompt and they have become one of my delivery favorites! read more

I really want to give this place four stars for the food. I really do. But I can't. They treat non-Hispanics terribly if you go in to place an order or eat. I live very close to Taco Real and have eaten or ordered from here at least fifteen times in the last two years. The food is consistently good. However, the staff consistently serves Hispanics before non-Hispanics and appears to prioritize their orders. The staff also resists giving "Daily Special" pricing to non-Hispanics, while simultaneously applying it to other orders. This has happened to me nearly every time I've visited and I've seen it happen to other non-Hispanics as well. Just because we do not look Hispanic doesn't mean we don't understand Spanish. While I recognize the delicious irony of reverse racism in our day and age, any racism is unacceptable in a restaurant. There are many good Mexican restaurants in the area. If you are not Hispanic, I recommend you choose one of those instead. read more

I enjoyed my dinner here with the family. Very quaint bit next time around we will probably just do pick up or take out. It's quite small inside and the seating is not the most comfortable. That being said the food was delicious. I ordered the taco bowl and it was more than filling enough, but most important I loved the way it tasted. We were the only ones dining in and at one point the workers even yelled over the counter asking if we were enjoying ourselves. That was a nice touch. I HATE to say this but, Taco Bell is better :( All I'm going to say is their guacamole has is 95% tomatoes, cilantro, and onions. 5% was avocado. I am kind of heartbroken to leave this review. I've never even written one before, that's how passionate I feel about this. I first saw Taco Real at a tiny town festival. I heard a guy say "this is the best tamale I've ever eaten!" Naturally, I had to investigate. The owner himself was in the booth and I must say, I experienced the best tamale I'd ever had; steak burritos another home run! Unfortunately, the quality has gone down substantially. I think they've changed to a cheaper cheese so I no longer order the quesadillas or the burritos. All I had left was the tamales. I got some recently that tasted like they were BBQd...they must have been singed in the steaming pot...anyway today I go there to give the tamales another shot. I called in my order and said I'd be there in 10 minutes. I showed up on time. There was a gentleman placing an order ahead of me so I waited my turn. Another "gentleman" walks in and walks RIGHT PAST ME like I wasn't even there and was greeted with Buenos Dias Amigo! Pickup? I could NOT believe it! I never knew this place existed until I saw their booth at the Taste of Lombard summer 2006. Good steak tacos are hard to find and this place does not disappoint. The meat is cooked perfectly with little to no fatty pieces. Their hot sauce is unique and flavorful too, and their prices are reasonable. I especially like the steak sopa. My only complaint is that they offered a coupon on the Entertainment Book's website, yet didn't understand how it was supposed to work. It was 20% off up to $20 but the cashier insisted we had to spend $20 to get 20% off. Silly! We ended up not using the coupon because it wasn't worth the aggravation. If the manager happens to see this - you need to educate your employees! Part of the problem was a language barrier, but that's still not an excuse for not understanding a coupon YOU opted to offer your customers! Update: I had a problem AGAIN with them and a coupon that they offered in the Entertainment Book. The cashier, a guy this time, didn't understand it so he went to the back to ask someone and that person told him not to accept it from us. He did take it anyway, but what the heck? I am seriously considering not patronizing this restaurant again if that's the type of customer service they have. Don't offer a coupon if you're not going to honor it! Yea, I make mistakes in life, like bad jokes and trying out some of those hole in the walls... I ordered a simple Carne Asada Burrito. It was over $8! Most places they're $5.99 with everything in them! I get home and get comfy to eat my burrito... First bite, gristle... Second bite, cartilage... Ok... I can handle a bit of fat once in a while, but I haven't made it 2 bites in yet! I tried to take a few more bites just to give this place a chance, but the burrito was dripping with grease! To top off the experience, there just wasn't any flavor. I started out excited to try a new place and I ended up throwing about over two-thirds of a burrito that could have been great! The food was decent. Service was awful. I ordered my dinner via GrubHub. I ordered a taco dinner. I saw on the menu, that tacos could be served either Mexican style (with onions and cilantro), or American style (with lettuce tomato and cheese). I noticed that GrubHub did not ask me which I wanted, so I called the restaurant to ensure I was getting what I wanted. The girl I spoke to said she edited my order and ensured me that I would be getting them Mexican style. When my food came it was American style. Not only that but the tortillas my tacos came in were extremely stale, as were the chips that came with my guacamole. Not at all impressed. I doubt I will order from here again. read more

One of the best Mexican restaurants I've had in a long, long time. Authentic food, great horchada, and excellent flavor, at a very reasonable price. Be aware that the spices are kicked up two or three notches from what's available at all the other chains in the area. The sauces provided are very hot, but worth the pain. Went here first on a recommendation from a co-worker and also found there was an Entertainment coupon for the place. Great homemade Mexican food for a good price. I've had the beef burritos and chicken tacos and have been pleased on both accounts. Sadly, I kind of went on a Taco Real kick where I ate there about 6 times in 2 weeks and got pretty sick of the beef burrito (not sick FROM the burrito). I think might go back there now that I am over that incident and really make a judgment on the food. They serve horchatta (this was my first horchatta experience) and other Latin-American sodas along with your typical pop experience. I next might try a chimmy-changa dinner or something. If you are looking for mediocre Mexican food here it is. Gordita was extremely greasy. Not a whole lot of good flavor in our meal at all. Burrito had a very runny consistency. Fresh cilantro was probably the only positive about this meal. Invest in some Togo containers, the foil wrap ruins the texture and presentation of the items. Had seen some reviews for this place over the years and decided to hit this for lunch one day when I was looking for some tacos. Had the taco dinner with one steak, one chorizo and one barbacoa taco. Barbacoa was authentic and was rather good. Chorizo is chorizo - good taco. Steak was average - meat was not tender enough and needed salt. Salsas were good. Horchata was great. The staff is really nice!!! I asked for a few substitutions since I am vegetarian and they were able to do this. I have gotten food from here a few times now and they don't disappoint. Taco Real is a great local place and a treat. The family that owned it has (I think ) moved on and sold the place to new owners, which is a shame because they were very nice people and had great service & food. The food is STILL very good and made to order, but they have also included El Salvadorean (?) food in their menu ... I have not been brave enough to try those dishes because I usually stick with the tried and true Carne Asada burrito. My husband and I were HUGE fans of Taco Real. We have been ordering at minimum weekly but sometimes twice a week However, time and time again we have ordered and they are NEVER consistent. I am so disappointed because I really liked their food. We usually place large orders and we'll order for example an order of three pupusas and only get one pupusa. We have ordered the 4 flauta meal and it only has 2 flautas. I have ordered three tacos and only gotten 2 tacos. Well the last straw was last weekend when I ordered a flauta meal, tacos, a side of rice, and chips and salsa. I didn't get either my side of rice or the rice that should come with the flauta meal and NO chips and salsa! Usually I just let it go because I don't like to complain (I know but this huge post) but every time, we have something wrong and we are such repeat customers! So this time I called and told them I was missing items which I definitely paid for and I was told they would be delivered to my house, well they never came. So we won't be ordering again for a long time if, at all. So disappointed and sad we have to give up Taco Real. But I'm tired of not getting what I'm paying for. read more

I can only vouch for our delivery experience, which wasn't great. We ordered through the Grub Hub App. It seems like a lot of the other reviewers had the same experience we did. Three of us ordered meals for delivery. Mine was the only one that was correct, and it wasn't the best tacos I've ever had. My friends ordered burritos, one without sour cream (and it had it) and another that was supposed to be ground beef (but it wasn't). They clearly didn't pay attention to detail, and it ended up being a waste of money. It wasn't hard requests by any means. For the service we received, the lack of detail, and the cost, it wasn't worth it. This area is full of local taquerias and Mexican restaurants that are much better. read more

We ordered quesadillas they were maybe 2 inch slices - tiny. Smallest quesadilla I've ever seen. We also order carne asada and carnita tacos... both which were served with iceberg lettuce and tomatoes. I was looking for more authentic Mexican food that should include cilantro and onions.
