This is the other T-Plus location which is closer to my work here at UCLA. Much like my other review, again the food is fresh, reasonably priced, and as many others have said, they have a tasty salsa/condiment bar. I have actually had zero issues with this place in terms of quality of food or service... On the way to work, I've stopped by for a chorizo breakfast burrito or some chilaquiles with carnitas on top. OH my god, delicious. If I ate here more than once a week for breakfast, I would be morbidly obese. Hell, I'd probably be dead. The parking around this location is MUCH worse than the other location, hence my knockdown from a 5 to a 4. My pollo torta was really good! It was topped with pinto beans, avocado, tomatoes, lettuce, and onions, and served on "telera" bread. It was super filling and super tasty. The pinto beans did made the texture of the torta great. The avocado was good, and tasted fresh too. My food was really good for a not-fancy restaurant. read more

It's like a Chipotle or Freebirds, but it's owned by I think Mexicans and run by again I think Mexicans ( i didn't ask to confirm ). With that said, it appears to be a mom and pop shop so it doesn't have the corporate bucks to make it look as nice as those other fast casual restaurant chains. it's a small joint so space is at a premium. It appears to cater to mostly white people, nothing wrong with that it's on the westside after all. So what you're going to get is a burrito bar area with the usual steak and chicken and the fixings that go into a burrito. Then surrounding counters in the back is a grill and assorted other utensils you need to make burritos, tacos, quesadillas, tostada's etc. There's also a salsa bar to customize the condiments you want with your meal. They had a pretty steady flow of customers so the food should be fresh (at least at lunch time.) Everything is decent and they give you a good portion. I ordered a grilled chicken taco salad, it was stacked, pretty huge portion I gotta say. Prices are on par for the westside. Food was tasty even if it wasn't particularly memorable or authentic. Best Authentic Mexican food around! Cheap Burritos and Tacos with the most amazing taste. There's also a large selection of sauces and toppings as well. The outside is a little dodgy but the inside is clean and quaint. Parking can also be a bitch. This place is literally 2 blocks from my place and I had never tried it. Manny K. Had suggested that it was better than Tacos por Favor, which I had just reviewed. She really was right.. Their carnitas are so juicy and flavorful! Since I wanted to try different things, I ordered a plate with carnitas, carne asada, rice and beans and guacamole. So yummy!! My husband was really happy with his ginormous burrito! The service was fast and friendly. There is not much left to ask for from a good taco joint. First tacos on my visit to LA. Had one grilled shrimp, and a carnitas house special taco. Open salsa bar with plenty of fresh stuff, came with side of chips. They have all the Mexican sugary drinks (horchata, tamarindo, limonado, etc.) on tap next to the fountain sodas. They have outdoor seating but it is part of the parking lot with a very busy 7-11. Nothing like having trucks and cars spewing exhaust a few feet from your plate to appreciate the weather! Because of the 7-11 the parking kind of sucks, you're better using the side street. I've tried so many things here, I can't even list them all. Everything on the menu looks so good, so I always want to try something new! The carne asada is really good, but the one thing I didn't like too much was the burrito gigante. I love tex mex, but this was a little too extreme for me. I've tried other burritos here, and found the shrimp one to be pretty memorable. It was too big for me, but probably the right size for an average male. It's fairly saucy, so make sure you eat it over a plate (not while driving). The carnitas quesadilla is also a safe go-to when I'm in an extra saturated fat kind of mood. The staff here is always nice and never rush me when I'm being indecisive. The salsa bar is pretty good here and they do give free chips with the meals. The advantage I see Taco Plus having over some other places (like Tacos Por Favor) are the hours. Taco Plus is open at least until 10pm. read more

The tacos are bigger than regular...hence why they charge you 2.35. The tortillas were terrible store bought, not even homemade..you think they'd be with that price...ala tacomiendo, and they didn't keep heat AT ALL. but no, my guess the prices reflect the location, and it being off Santa Monica Blvd. in West LA, you know the prices are gonna be redunkulous. One thing I noticed right when I walked in was a glass case with meats already sitting in heat pans....mmmm..I thought this was a "fresh served" place? Of course, I order my tacos and lo, they give me the meat sitting in the heat case, rather than the fresh stuff being grilled where everyone can see it. That's a bummer. Another bad thing about that heating case in front, I saw a worker pour some water on all the meats to avoid over dryness. That's terrible. Once again, where's the freshness? Pastor - It was marinated right, but the flavor were nothing to write home about. A bit on the dry side also. I guess all that water must have dried up? Asada - A lean meat that had no added extra flavor to it...just meat grilled. They add a little sauce on your meat when they serve the tacos, im assuming for flavor, but that didn't much to excite my taste buds. If anything, the juice just made the crap tortilla soggy. Again, the meat was dry....the water didn't help with this one either. The only redeeming quality I found was their salsa bar. Had two rojas, hot and very hot, a mild verde, a pico de gallo, radishes, cliantro, and even green onions. AND they serve chips with your meal...I'm giving them a star on said qualities. Simply put, this is NOT bold mexican flavor you'd be hoping for if you were from the eastside. This is perfect for people who have moved from Mid-West America and have no clue about Mexican food. If you specifically ask for a steak burrito, black beans, and rice and NO onions or salsa, count on being disappointed; when you get home you'll get a burrito with pinto beans, plenty of onions, salsa and no steak. This place is great! I live a couple blocks away, so I don't have to deal with parking. But if you're worried, just be smart and park on Ohio/Broadway (just not during lunch on a Friday on the north side or a Thursday on the south side due to street sweeping) or Amherst. The poor lady gave me the most confused look when I tried to order the chorizo breakfast burrito on a Friday night. We just sort of stared at each other for fifteen seconds until I realized my mistake. I think she just didn't have the heart to tell me because I looked so excited to be ordering it. =\ Service is super friendly. She always asks if I want chips thrown in for free. If you order at the exact same time as several other people, you could end up waiting ten minutes or so. But hey, that's not long for fresh food. 5 stars from me. In a cozy space in an even smaller parking lot, Taco Plus makes its mark as a decent Mexican food spot in the area. At Taco Plus, you'll find your usual variety of tacos and burritos. I got the asada burrito, which was sizable and came on a slightly toasted tortilla wrap. Perhaps it was because I came late on a weekday, but I didn't find it as fresh or flavorful as I hoped. Between the rough parking lot situation and plethora of better, cheaper taco trucks in the area, it put Taco Plus lower on my list of go-to taco/burritos spots in the area. read more

They're only getting a star because its required to leave a review. I ordered a burrito gigante with carne asada, took out rice and beans. I also added fries to my order and didnt know chips automatically came with it, of course they didnt bother to tell me. Anyway, I pick up the burrito and it is poorly wrapped and the bottom starts falling out. I'm still not tripping tho. Then I proceed to eat and I swear on everything the actual tortilla starts to fall apart, literally opens up in the midst of holding it. So I ask them about it, he has an attitude says all the tortillas is that way (NEVER HAD A BURRITO FALL APART ON ME and it was way less stuffed the chipotle) So I go to complain. He immediately asks if i want my money back or another burrito. I tell him nah I just thought he should know and that I was gonna write a review. He clearly gave NO FUCKS. So I decided, fine, five me back my money. He had a shitty attitude and no sense of understanding. I hate shitty customer service and I hate food that falls apart on me. This location sucks. I lived in this neighborhood for two years and went here more than any other local eatery. Nice people, consistent quality, good portions. Will miss it. Here are my favorites: Burrito Gigante Carne Asada - Very big, tasty, but tell them no lettuce. Lettuce has no business in a burrito. Burrito Vegetariano - this is probably the only veggie burrito I've ever eaten. Ordered it because I wanted something healthy, but to be honest it's too big to be healthy. It is delicious, though! Burrito de Camarones - This is the healthiest option: shrimp, cabbage, salsa, sour cream. Super tasty and not heavy. My standard choice. Carnitas Burrito with grilled onions instead of raw - the grilled onions is a special request and they might charge you extra, but totally worth it. Really makes the burrito. And unlike lettuce, grilled onions should be in everything. read more

We were in the UCLA area and were craving tacos! Thanks to yelp, we had a great lunch! We ordered the following for the 2 of us. We wanted to have a light lunch as we were gonna go on a ice cream spree! Carne Asada burrito - it was really big and delicious. It came with rice, onions, cilantro, pretty traditional condiments in a big warm flour tortilla. Al Pastor taco - yummy!! The al pastor had great flavor! This was my favorite meat with the shrimp a close 2nd. Came with onions and cilantro. Grilled Shrimp taco - yummy! There were about 5 pieces of grilled shrimp that had very good flavor, very fresh. The food came with small sides of chips. I loved the salsa bar. I pack in the pico de gallo! The "hot" salsa wasn't too hot. It's a small restaurant with about 5 tables and some counter seating in the back. The prices were very reasonable and had good portions. The service was quick and friendly. Over the weekend my appetite was basically reduced to zilch nada nuthin' so when Mike suggested Taco Plus I was kind of like 'eh, I can't eat that much'...then I browsed the menu some more on line (I've never made it past their awesome tacos, burritos and guac), saw the enchiladas and figured I could order that and put the leftovers in the fridge if I couldn't finish them (because tacos always suck and are soggy the next day) When we got home and I plopped down in front of the TV with my grub I dug into the 2 small side orders that come with the enchiladas - I chose black beans and Spanish rice (you could also choose pinto beans, corn, or salad). For *small* sides this was totally a ton of food. Even if the black beans (topped with ooey gooey melted cheese) WEREN'T hard core rockin' my world I could've been completely satisfied and sated just eating the sides alone. Seriously though, I can't give those beans enough praise. I am SO getting those again every time I eat here. I used to think my faaaaaavorite chicken enchiladas were the ones from Cinco de Mayo but now there is a new heavyweight champion in the hizouse. The order came with THREE big enchiladas (CdM gives you 2) filled with ALL WHITE MEAT CHICKEN. Oh thank you!!!! I know maybe some people out there prefer dark meat but it's really not the most appealing thing to me...especially when you get those funky grisly or fatty bits and then the meal is just ruined for me. Taco Plus enchiladas were full of all non-fatty, non-gross breast meat and I was officially in heaven the rest of the night...we ate the 2 left over enchiladas for breakfast the next morning with some eggs and they tasted even better the next day. So I put this question to you: How can two restaurants with the same owners, same name, and same menu offer such different experiences??? I will start by saying that my fellow Yelpers have (not for the first time) let me down. 4 stars? Perhaps for someone who has never partaken in the culinary ecstasy that is Mexican food. Now, I'm open to the opinions of others, and I'm not the megalomaniac that some might consider me to be... I like to hear other peoples' opinions, unless in my estimation they are wrong. And, in this case, there are several dozen of you who are very wrong indeed. I love the Taco Plus location on National. In fact, because of its fantastic breakfast burrito, it has become one of my top go-to restaurants for a weekend brunch. But this location? Bleh. I went here once, and the food was terrible. And yet, I am a forgiving soul, and opted to give this location a second shot after a trip to Spectrum Santa Monica followed by some Blockbuster rentals. I ordered the pollo picado ($7.35), which included a few bites of chicken and a generous helping of grilled peppers, onions, and tomatoes, accompanied by tortillas, rice, and beans. The chicken was dry and everything was exceedingly salty. The rice was also dry and flavorless, although there was lots of cheese on the beans... and cheese makes everything better! In fact, the only way that I was able to stomach this meal was by soaking everything with the salsa verde (which was halfway decent), and then of course a good dousing of Marie Sharp's habanero sauce... word. I also ordered a side of guacamole, which was pretty bad. I mean, no guacamole is bad, but it really didn't have much flavor... too much lime juice, and not enough onions and cilantro. Taco Plus, I am a master of guacamole, and perhaps I should bring you a sample of mine so that you can see what the hype's all about. All in all, a second disappointing encounter with this location. Very tasty carna asada or chicken or el pastor tacos. The meat is juicy and flavorful. Totally kick LaSalsa or Baja Fresh's axx. The secret is the pinch of el Pastor juice they added to the beef. Or order the combo plate with corn, beans. The corn is yummy, the beans nice and smooth - get your fiber people! Fiesta plate is good too. You get one taco, one taquitos and one small quesadilas. Since I've been cooking for myself, I have come to really appreciate quality mediocre food. It makes me feel better about not cooking, because if I did, I *could* have made whatever it is I'm eating, and it's the possibility that's important, right? Must be right, I got that from a Hallmark card. Anyway, Taco Plus is my default no-cook option, which means I'm here basically every night of the week. No, just kidding, I'm only here on nights when I'm not too lazy to walk the block to Taco Plus ... whatever that means. What it means is the coffee is wearing off and that I like Taco Plus. I think the burritos are really well-constructed. They never fall apart on me, and I am super-appreciative of the fact that the rice goes all the way around the carnitas, like in a sushi roll. I love that. The salsa bar is exciting in a mediocre way, as is the flan. I have yet to make it to Taco Plus on the weekends to try their menudo and if it rocks my world you are sure to hear about it. read more
