Maybe it's because they're off the beaten path, but anyone giving Taco Ocho less than four stars must've had their taste buds scorched off. The tacos here are amazing! The two taco combo with rice & beans will satisfy most. Why? Because they're packed with a huge helping of meat! My favorites so far are the Jalapeño Pork and the Beef Colorado. Talk about a flavor bomb! We also tried the plantain appetizer. It was equally amazing. It's a nice sit-down restaurant with great service. I have been coming to their Frisco and McKinney locations for a while. They used to be a counter service in Frisco and then switch to the table service at both locations. The service in both formats has always been good. I have had their brunch menu once and really liked it but didn't document with a picture so it clearly didn't happen. They have a good bar selection to relax at the end of the day or get through your day. My go to option 4/5 times is the two taco plate with rice and beans. The rice is always fluffy and tastes good and the beans are a nice black refried beans. Now for the taco I LOVE the Latin Love. This is the most fantastic shredded beef with plantains. Oh i can't describe how fantastic it is and you have to get it. My second taco is always the Cabo Fish Fried as a good fish taco should be and is on par with the best fish tacos back home in So Cal! You must come try their tacos. You can try their other option but if you do be sure to get a Latin Love taco ala cart. read more

First time here. Restaurant was clean and festive. Cute bar and great menu for alcoholic drinks that I'd like to come back and try. Between my husband and I we tried four tacos. My favorite and my husbands favorite was the Latin love which had so many flavors and like no other taco I've had before. The iced tea was very flavorful and the salsa they brought with the order was fantastic! Tacos are bigger than other places so two was almost too much for me. Whether for breakfast, lunch or dinner they are consistently good. They'll make it how you like and let you mix ingredients to your desire. Which is extremely nice! My son and I chose this restaurant because we had never been there. I have eaten TexMex for decades. Usually that's all you can find. But nooooo, Taco Ocho was a wonderful surprise. It's many favors and foods you can't usually find in this area. We tried the plantains, excellent, and tacos, really good, big with lots of ingredients. I went to this place in McKinney today for lunch with friends today. We ordered the tostadas, which are listed as a deal at 3 for $11.99. Since there were six of us, we ordered six tostadas, which should have been two orders of the deal. However, the server charged us individually for each tostada instead, so we ended up paying a bit more. While that's okay, I feel like the server should have pointed out the deal, especially since most of us were first-time customers. It would have been better customer service to guide us toward the better option. Just a heads-up if you go there--though the food was really good! read more

This is not a typical taqueria.... This is more of a gourmet taco spot. Not sure if my server was new but he was young and didn't do a great job. I watched him Service my table and one other. White rice and black beans were as bland as they look. Jalapeño pork taco was by far the best. Doubtful I will go back because there are so many other great taco places in the area. read more

This was the 2nd time at Taco Ocho and the first at this location. We were seated immediately as soon as we entered the restaurant and the server took our drink order almost immediately and the Chips and Salsa arrived again almost immediately. Drinks were served quite fast. We placed our order of 3 tacos, 2 Coco Connection, 1 Fish (Cabo something), and Spicy Chicken Quesadilla. The food came quite fast and was fresh, flavorful, and at an optimum temperature. The portion size was good. The restaurant is bright, spacious, and clean. The staff is polite and efficient & the service is quick and efficient. However, there is something missing. I did not see much interaction between either the staff or staff and customers. Everyone seems to be busy. Not a deal-breaker but it does stand out. Overall a very good experience. read more

I went here twice in one day. For breakfast I had the "Vigas" which were awesome. The green sauce is not overwhelmingly spicy. The portions were perfect. The tortillas are not rubbery, and the ingredients were paired together awesome! For dinner I had the quesadillas. They were surprisingly good. I enjoyed the "black bean spread", and the pico was a wonderful addition. My only feedback is: I wish they put kale or spinach inside the quesadilla. I feel this would help balance out the mushiness of the sweet potato, and beans. All in all it was a delicious meal. The menu says "All quesadillas are served with a side of pico and sour cream". So make sure to request "no sour cream" because it's not vegan (or so I was told). My partner had the "Madre Tierra" & the "Pura Vida" taco. These tacos were PACKED with ingredients as well, and were all super fresh. She didn't care for the Pura Vida as much since the way the tacos ingredients are served is cold. Not sure if that's the way the taco is made, or if it was a mistake, but all in all the tacos were delicious. I also wanted to get rice and beans as a side, but I'm not totally sure the rice is vegan. The reason for my rating: We came in for dinner an hour before closing. No one made eye contact, greeted us or even let us know someone would be right with us. It was evident they were short staffed, but a "Welcome someone would be right with you" would have sufficed. I watched a server cough/sneezed into his hands. They did not use sanitizer, or wash their hands once. Both servers had longer hair that covered their faces. This caused them to continuously move or touch their hair. Still no sanitizer, or hand washing. They then rest their hands palms down on the serving window. To watch the cooks prepare the food. To only grab, and serve your food without gloves or hand washing. Only one cook had a hat on, and wore gloves while making food. The other guy had no hair net or gloves nor did I see him wash his hands once. Like the previous review said these kids are super young, but there looked to be no real form of management on duty. So it looked to me as if no one was even there to enforce these rules. There was 0 enthusiasm from either server. We continuously smiled and tried to make eye contact, but we received little to no interaction. The last place I wanted to be as a teen was at work so I kind of understand, but there is still a certain level of expectation when providing service. The bartender offered little to no help to the servers even after the one customer sitting at the bar left. I watch her mistakenly tell a couple walking in who had a to go order "Sorry last call for food has already passed". She even told them a second time after they told her both times they were there to pick up a to go order. The bartender then cuts on the lights at 8:50 to start spraying cleaner on the bar to let us all know they are ready everyone to leave. There was a family sitting in close proximity eating their food. Had I not been done eating I would have felt super rushed as it was obvious they wanted everyone to leave so they could start closing duties. I also think it's slightly offensive to have your employees wear shirts that say "Mexican Born American Made". I don't think the owners thought that one through very much. It's bad enough you have colonized pictures of women in sombreros at your bar, and a huge mural by an artist who isn't indigenous or a person of color. I hope to visit here in the future. I will continue to update my review. All in all I appreciate Taco Ocho for having so many different vegan options. With fresh ingredients. Someone for sure took the time to make delicious plant based based options. For that I will continue to support this establishment in the future. UPDATE: The Pura Vida taco ended up making my partner sick. She just finished throwing it up! So we prob won't be coming back. read more

This is not authentic Mexican food. The tortillas were undercooked and appear to be store bought and when I brought up Barbacoa, thinking I saw someone eat it, they looked at me like I was crazy. Server was sweet, but asking if I wanted to know all the vegetarian options frankly added to the inauthenticity. If you dont know what Mexican food and tacos should look or taste like, or even Tex mex for that matter, then this is the place for you. I hate to be harsh, but it was such a let down food wise. Seemed like a restaurant I would find in California or perhaps Northern Florida, but not Texas. It is also freezing in there so take a jacket. read more

An insane amount of vegan options. I got 4/5 of them because I couldn't decide which to get all were amazing. I definitely need to try their other vegan options outside of the taco options but the tacos were packed full of amazing/fresh veggies, so I'm sure everything else they have to offer for my fellow veg heads will be great! We did go later in the evening so it wasn't very busy, but the guy that waited on us did a good job. Be patient...they're all young. Literally when we looked around we were like "all of the people that work here are kids..." but they are doing their best and our order was correct and came out in good timing. Drinks....we ordered two different margaritas. One was blue, I can't remember the name of it. Just got with the original margarita. The other one wasn't bad but it also isn't something I'd order again. Overall, we had a good experience. We ordered six tacos, and two of them had incorrect labels indicating what kind of taco was inside. It's a concern when the taco with a "brisket" label contained the fish taco... and your child that ordered the brisket is allergic to fish! The kitchen staff was quite careless - don't they realize that people can be allergic to some of the ingredients that they serve and a mix-up like this can be very dangerous? We showed up five minutes later, to be told that they had a 20 minute wait. Ordered a total of 7 tacos and a torta. The tortillas on the tacos were soggy as I feel they never cooked them. Tacos fell apart after 1 bite. The only saving graces was the queso and the torta. Even then, it could be better. Lastly the value for the price. $70 for the order which I would gladly pay if there was value. Honestly is this place "authentic"? Probably not, but it's such a solid spot. Place is super clean and the staff are so sweet. Food has always been fresh. In this area of overpriced not so great food, I really can't complain. Everything we had here is good. I've been to several popular Mexican places in the area and I don't find them that authentic in comparison to what we had in the southern part of Dallas, Austin or California neither. Battered fish tacos are delicious! I had the jalapeño pork and my husband had the steak fajita, both are fabulous, deliciously flavored!! The chips and salsa are great, thinner chips with a mildly spicy, but wonderfully full flavored salsa. Bartender Antoinette was an added bonus because she makes excellent drinks!!! We ordered vodka martini and skinny margarita. I am particular about my margaritas, I prefer them fresh and not too sweet, the skinny marg was refreshing and tasty.
