Never again. Hubs, 12yr old son and I went to Tacos Mexico for lunch after finding a Groupon for it and seeing all the good reviews. Boy were we sorry we did. Disappointed is an understatement. My son had the #1 lunch special (with beef) and I could tell by the look on his face it was not good. He said the meat was so dry and very tasteless. I had the chicken Burrito and I echo my son's sentiment. Chicken was dry and the burrito was as tasteless as an old shoe. The refried beans and rice were bland and tasteless too. Hubby had fajitas and after tasting mine said they were more flavorful, but still bland. The salsa was watery and again, no flavor. Even the chips were blah, no salt and cold. I'm so glad we decided not to get an appetizer. I would have hated to spend even more money for garbage food. I've had better at Taco Bell. Worst Mexican food we've EVER had, anywhere. I can't understand where all the glowing reviews come from. Save your money and find someplace, anyplace, than here to spend it. Oh, and the service was not that great either. My wife and I went to Tacos Mexico for lunch on a Friday. The place was packed and we got the last table available. As soon as we were seated we were asked for our drink orders. Both my wife and I ordered the Horchata (If you've never had Horchata, this would be a good place to try it for the first time) and we thought it tasted great. I ordered a Torta with Carnitas and my wife ordered 3 tacos(carnitas, barbacoa, and carne guisada). There were some big tables that ordered before us so we expected a long wait, but we got our food within 10 minutes or so. The bread for my Torta was nice and toasty and the carnitas were really soft; I thought it was great. My wife said the carne guisada was a little dry, but the other 2 tacos were good. Overall we had a good experience and will definitely be back. Mainly took off a star because it's not the best tacos we've had in the triangle area, but it's definitely good and worth checking out. read more

We stopped in for lunch and at first the service was less than mediocre. The waitress was NOT pleasant or friendly, simply plopping the menus down in a stack and not introducing herself. Maybe she was having a bad day. I asked for vegetarian fajitas with black beans and corn tortillas (per the options listed on the menu). She informed me there were no black beans. A Mexican restaurant with no black beans in the entire building... OK. What else does it come with? "Nothing." That's weird the menu says black beans and rice. "You can get double rice". How about a salad? ... crickets. When the food came its was REDEEMINGLY good. Very fresh! My fajitas came with rice, lettuce, guac, sour cream and pico. Not sure if that was the "salad" but it was really good! A different woman brought us our food and was very pleasant and friendly. She also brought the check and took our plates which I why I think maybe the first waitress was just having a rough day/in a bad mood. The good/cheap food will bring us back. read more

I have eaten at Tacos Mexico for many years. The place is very laid back and casual. The food is above average, but not fancy. The part that I like is that I know I am supporting a local family who works together to run the business. You will often be seated and/or served by the kids of the owners who are doing their homework at a table. I would much rather support this family than a national chain! read more

We used to get takeout at Tacos Mexico pretty consistently, about twice a month, over the past year. Just recently, they seem to have changed the menu, which is code for hiking up the prices. The menu on the website is still the old one and I ordered based on that one. When I go to pick the order up, not only have I been charged the new prices but the hostess overcharged me on a couple of items. I had to point out to her on the menu that she charged me wrong. She didn't really explain what was happening with the menu and refused to let me speak to a manager. And she just threw the cash in my face and ran into the kitchen when she refunded me for the overcharged items. As much as I would have enjoyed going to this place in the past, I won't be going there anymore. read more

Lived on the Mexican border for years, traveled into Mexico, & not just the border towns. This is authentic Mexican food, not Tex-Mex. My husband got a shrimp/garlic dish with the shrimp being very fresh. (Having lived in Italy & Maryland, he knows fresh.) I got enchilada Suiza that was wonderful. Staff was friendly. Prices good. Only complaint was the chips tasted a little burnt; still give them 5 stars. It looks like a hole-in-the-wall, but definitely worth it. read more

This place smelled awful when we entered, as noted by a previous reviewer. The smell was strong enough to interfere with our enjoyment of our meal. Pretty standard rice n beans kinda place. Food was good, chips and salsa were excellent. I like that they fry the taco shells fresh. Strangely, on kids meal items, they slather sauce on the burritos and sour cream on the tacos. Most kids I know aren't big fans of this. The service was attentive and the people were friendly. If the smell were gone, I would bump this up a star. My wife and I just moved to Apex, NC. from New England, there are not a lot of really good mexican restaurants we could brag about. We drove by this place many times and decided never to go in because of the way it looked outside, no cars that often in the parking lot, we figured people just didn't like it. A coworker told me the food was great and that we should not judge a book by its cover. Well, we decided to go in and give it a try, WOW! What amazing food. The whole setting was amazing, the servers were very nice, constantly asking if we were good or if we needed anything else, the music and the pictures and decor was really nice and relaxing. Food is good size portions, excellent taste and very filling. Each time we have gone we actually saw families inside with kids and good amounts of people, not sure if they are walking there or not but shocked to see people inside. They also deliver as well which is very nice as well. My wife laughs because I usually end up almost licking the plate clean. You must try this place, it is fantastic!!!!!!!!!!! read more

This place is great. Every time family and friends come into the area, this is where we go for Mexican. It's a nice atmosphere (the flat-screen TVs on the wall surprised me), the food is great, and the margaritas are huge. We've probably been 10 times in the 2 yrs we've lived in Apex. Salsa is really good. I always get this huge burrito every time I go. And yes, the curb appeal probably scares away a few, but get past that, and you'll find a great restaurant. PS. They just resealed the drive way entrance, so it's even easier to come in now (talk about originally authentic, haha). read more

First let me say the restaurant was clean with nice atmosphere,and service was courteous. The experience stops there. This is not Good Mexican food. I have had Mexican food throughout the southwest, Arizona, California , New Mexico and Mexico. Which all have different styles. But one thing is for certain It all starts with a good sauce. Their enchilada sauce tastes like it came from a can. Of course they put this on enchiladas and the Tamales which ruined them. Horrible Sauce. Another thing is the Chilli Relenos. Wow did they get those wrong. They use a poblano chilli which is okay. I prefer a Anaheim chilli. But that didn't matter. They didn't even roast the chilli. So you bite thru the egg coating into a rubbery tough mass. A chilli relenos should be easy to cut thru with a fork. The ingrediants should meld together when its cooked. I almost thought to ask for a knife it was that tough. If you are from the South and don't know any better this place may be a 4 or 5. But in My opinion this is just bad gringo mexican food. My wife makes better Mexican food and she is a gringa. read more

Just got back from Taco's Mexico. Like the other reviews say, the outside is a dump but the inside is ok. We read the reviews before going and even though it had a not-so-great sanitation score so we went in being critical and we decided just to give it a try. We were surprised that the place was almost full. Better hope the bartender is at the front to seat you or you will have to seat yourself and wait a while for them to bring you menus. They have a lot of choices. I got combo #10 chicken burrito, enchilada, quesadilla and beans. While my boyfriend got 2 tacos rice and beans. Chips and salsa were pretty good. Food took a while to come out. All of my food was hot and good. My boyfriends beef tacos (btw they only have shredded beef, no ground beef) has sour cream, lettuce and cheese. He does not like sour cream and the menu did not note the toppings. So we had to wait awhile for a waitress to come over so he could send it back. However, the new plate come right away. We had to wait a while for the bill and to pay. Overall, my food was pretty good. The service could have been better. I eat at Mexican restaurants everywhere I go and this was just ok. Can't really complain because we had a coupon for buy one combo get one free. So for about $12 it wasn't bad. Although, I may try somewhere else in the future. read more

We live in Cary and wanted to venture out to a Mexican restaurant that we've never visited and found all of the rave reviews on Taco Mexican. Off we go. As soon as we stepped inside, we were hit with a "raw sewage" smell. As I do in every restaurant we visit, I looked for the sanitation grade. Not one in sight. I asked the hostess where the grade was and apparently she couldn't/doesn't speak English because she kept trying to seat us. A few people were doing some work behind the bar area (maybe trying to fix the sewage smell?) so I asked them about the grade and he pulled the piece of paper out from behind the bar and showed me an 85 score and mumbled something about some problems they had. Needless to say, we didn't stay. After looking at their previous scores, I'm not sure why anyone would eat at this establishment. On 4/28/11 they received an 87 and then two weeks later on 5/13/11, had a reinspection and received an 89. Other future inspections were 88.5, 89, 92 and the most recent (6-27-12) 85.
