We had the opportunity to visit taco Mesa again here in Anaheim Hills. The owner is there and a very friendly person. He went over all of his food. We ordered and got our drinks and sat down and very quickly. Our food came out very hot and looked great. Let me tell you the food made here is a top quality and very tasty. The salsa they provide also is really good and comes in three different ranges. The interior has always nice and clean. I am glad taco Mesa came to Anaheim Hills and will be a customer always. Went in today very curious of the authenticity of the burritos, the service was busy yet friendly and the ambiance was quite mellow. The burrito was amazing for a shredded beef breakfast burrito, I would say it is very saucy for my style but would order again. I'm obsessed with this place! I've been here 4 times in the last month. It's kind of like a Mexican fast casual spot, with high-quality ingredients you can taste. I FINALLY found an authentic taco spot in Northern Orange County that really impressed me...as I'm on a mission to try as many taco places I can in Anaheim. I'll definitely be back to try the chef-recommended tacos: blackened chicken or fish, along with the Oaxaca enchiladas to which I know because the chef came out to check on how everything was and recommended them. Such a nice touch and great service. He also explained that they make all their tortillas from scratch and use organic oils for cooking. The decor inside is super tasteful and modern, and let's talk about the pink bathroom...total vibes! Oh, and did I mention $6 margaritas? Always a win in my book. They have an awesome salsa bar with all the staples I've come to love from San Diego, Mexico City and Tijuana. I have been a regular at Taco Mesa on Chapman Avenue in Orange for more than a decade. The new location in Anaheim Hills is not nearly as good. First of all, the decor is very sparse. We had to clean our table off in the outside area. We ordered three items: chicken burrito, giant taquito and chicken soft taco. My husband enjoyed his burrito. Guacamole was the best part of the taquito. For six dollars, I had a blue corn tortilla, white onions, a sprinkle of cilantro and chicken on my taco ... pretty dull. Salsa bar was nice. I miss the more extensive menu, delicious desserts and agua frescas at your other location. I won't be back unless the menu changes. read more

So far the kinks are being worked out and this has become my favorite local Mexican food restaurant. Today is Taco Tuesday. I can't be any happier! There are great options and the liquor license must have finally come through, cause the mini margarita is fabulous. The Fresca watermelon is so refreshing. I chose a crispy chicken taco and a Pollo Mole taco along with the mini margarita off the taco Tuesday menu. I couldn't be more pleased. The crispy chicken taco is full of flavor and the perfect amount of crunch. The Pollo Mole taco is the perfect balance of a tiny bit of sweet to a nice Savory mole. My husband loves the shredded chicken burrito. I love that they sell Mexican Coca-Cola in the bottle, because I prefer cane sugar as a natural source of sweetness. The staff is super friendly and the owner is very informative. The ingredients are very fresh and anything fried is done so in beef tallow instead of nut or Vegetable oils. If you're looking for healthier, fresh, and delicious Mexican food, this is definitely a spot to stop and give a try. read more

The staff here is super friendly and welcoming, and I even had the chance to meet the owner--really great guy. Service and atmosphere were both solid. That said, the food itself was just okay. This review is just my humble opinion. I know this is their soft opening and it shows. I hope and wish them well. First of all the ambiance is rather shocking. The floor is horrible for my taste. It looks like there was some prior flooring they just ripped off and left all the stains and awful stuff behind and this became their floor. I know it suppose to be rustic, but to me it looks dirty. The walls are plain white, although the manager said they are going to add plants. The food was typical of a fast food place not great, but not horrible. My husband liked his carnitas tacos. I had the traditional steak burrito. It was extremely salty. I only ate one quarter of it. The manager or whatever he was told me if I was chocked by the floor I was going to be extremely surprised by the looks of the bathroom. I did not go see because they have one bathroom for men and women and I definitely do not visit those. So I guess that is a good insensitive for people to go check out Taco Mesa and the bathroom read more

First time trying Taco Mesa for a late lunch, we arrived around 1:30. Front counter person was friendly but seemed unsure. New employee? Forgot to give us a soda we ordered. Had to remind her. Didn't get a picture of a taco we ordered but my partner said it was very good. Pastor Burrito was huge. Sadly not much meat - primarily beans. Which I like but really wanted to try their pastor and don't feel like I did. Very tasty and the pieces of pineapple inside was a nice touch. Had no idea burrito came with a side salad. Nice surprise - very fresh. No dressing on salad or side so I used a mix of salsas from the self service salsa bar. Which BTW salsa bar was in need of attention. Few of the dishes were empty. None of the salsa bar was labeled (ex: hot, mild, etc) and no bottled sauces available (ex: tapitio, Tabasco,etc) Took 1/2 of burrito home and had it for breakfast the next day with a fried egg and homemade hot sauce. Restaurant looked clean. Not too different from Rubios which previously occupied the space. Music was loud. Over all a good experience. Well probably try them again. read more

Delicious simple and clean! So excited Anaheim Hills finally has a place that represents fast gourmet and clean food! No seed oils!! They use olive oil and beef tallow:) I ordered the traditional steak and the specialty cod tacos and a half Caesar salad. It was good, but expensive for what you get. I know prices everywhere are going up, but everything seemed to be about $2-4 more than I would have expected to pay for it. I was lucky enough to get their grand opening $10 off offer, so the price was good using that. I ordered their Mexico city shrimp enchiladas, which were 2 shrimp enchiladas in green sauce, served with rice, beans, and lettuce. The good: there was a decent quantity of shrimp, which were cooked well, and the green sauce was tangy and tasty. The rice had a really good flavor - they had what I think were dried cranberries in the rice, which added a sweetness that complemented the tangy sauce. And the beans were good. I got it to go, and it was all packed up well to survive the ride home. The best part was actually their salsa bar. It was clean and well stocked. Their limes were sliced into usable sized pieces, and their carrot cauliflower mixture was delicious! On the border of Too spicy, but not there. The not so good: the rice wasnt quite cooked enough - it was hard which was such a shame because the flavor was really needed with the tangy sauce. Also, in the tiny salad they gave, 2 of the leaves of what I thought were lettuce were actually bay leaves. Not edible or pleasant to bite into! Overall, it was good, and if they have another coupon or special, I might see myself going back again to try their tacos or quesadilla. But for full price, I think there are better places at the same price point, or even less. read more

The carne asada taco was chewy, gave up on it eventually, the salmon taco wasn't as good as the Taco Mesa in Orange, was even served on a different tortilla and just lacked the presentation, they're menu is complicatedly simple, I prefer the Orange menu style, about the only thing I liked better was the bean and cheese burrito, they use black beans at Orange and pinto at the Anaheim Hills location, mucho mejor!! read more

Not Ready for Prime Time! I have been a fan of Taco Mesa across from the DMV in Costa Mesa for a long time. I was excited about this one opening up in Anaheim Hills. But the food was not good. Ordered two chicken tacos, one beef taco, chips and a drink for just under $20. The taco taste was good but the portions were terrible, with each taco a little over 1/2 inch in thickness. Battered cod taco was aite, would not get again. Quesadilla with steak was pretty greasy but tasty and I liked it. Guacamole is listed at 7 and the container is literally a small sauce cup. And it was browning. Does not come with chips. This was actually crazy to me. I get inflation and all but it was actually crazy to me the audacity of this guacamole. Kind of annoyed me as well that they didn't have hand sanitizer either. Look I'm not one to be all picky but dang these things were really striking a nerve... come on y'all let's pick up the tlc a little bit. Unless you actually really care about "non-seed" oils- look, if you regularly eat Mexican food, chances are you could gaf about seed oils. The flavors were off, the sauces weren't good, and overall it just did not taste authentic Mexican at all. This place markets itself like a Mexican spot, but the food does not match that. Expectation were high as I compared to the awesome location in costa mesa. This was place was just an overall miss. Each menu item has a start price which is deceptive/confusing to me. A torta is $9 on the menu, "ohh, you want meat with that?" $5 for chicken or $7 for shrimp or steak. $16 for a torta with tax closer to $18, $20 with tip. for a torta. The difference between a traditional burrito with chicken bean and cheese and a blackened chicken burrito with cabbage, aioli, and queso fresco is $7 DOLLARS. yes, the difference!! a Traditional burrito starts at $8 while a blackened starts at $15. I had the blackened chicken burrito and the chicken was super dry. The aioli, cabbage relish, pepper, and queso fresco was good. But i cant justify paying $7 more for that vs a traditional. read more

Taco Mesa Anaheim Hills is solid. We had the bean & cheese burritos, asada adobado plate, blackened chicken tacos, beef tacos, and the Tajín tallow chips -- everything was on point. The food tastes great and actually leaves you feeling good after, not heavy. The staff was friendly, the place was clean, and they even joked around with me about my soccer jersey, which made it feel like I was just hanging out with friends. Was wanting to place an order via toast, had a question about the food and waited on hold for close to 10 minutes. No one ever picked up. Drove to the restaurant and waited in a line that was 15 deep. Only one employee taking orders. Where is management? Not a good look and makes you think twice about ordering here. During a lunch rush it should be all hands on deck. Whomever owns this franchise needs to be present on the weekends as you have one chance to impress and so many reasons like above to disappoint. A lot of options out there so you need to separate yourself. Do better. Still waiting on my carry out. Update: got food poisoning from the food. Was up all night with issues.
