    Cheese & Chicken Quesadilla
    Camille F.

Birmingham staple. Always crawling with kids and teens, especially at The Summit. My go-to dinner is the chicken quesadilla. You can add anything from the 'toppings' section into your quesadilla. I usually opt for some light black beans and light corn. I specify light because too much topping it there and your quesadilla can fall apart! The staff here is always very friendly and always bustling around. Taco Mamas operate very smoothly. My hack: order a Chipotle Ranch on the side. Perfect for dipping quesadilla in. The line at The Summit is nearly always out the door. It moves fairly quickly, but I would still expect to wait a bit. Dare I say... I think Taco Mama makes the best margarita in town. They don't use any of that sour mix that other places do, so the margs aren't too sweet or syrupy. I'm open to suggestions if y'all think there's better out there. It's watermelon margarita season right now. This place is packed, family-friendly, fun, but can feel stressful at times. Not to mention the parking lot. I don't know what they can do to fix The Summit, but it feels like a zoo sometimes.

This was my first time trying taco mama. I made the mistake of going right at lunchtime and the wait to order was a little long. There was a young gentleman named Zach that was outside, assisting the customers and was very polite and helpful. The restaurant is quite loud in my opinion. I felt a bit overstimulated even just waiting for my to-go order. The staff were working quickly to get all the orders out promptly. I got the Alabama redneck taco basket, and it did not disappoint! So very tasty and tender and full of flavor. The chips are light and thinner than the ones you typically get at most Mexican restaurants. I really enjoyed them. But I think I enjoyed the Side of Street corn more than anything. Super delicious!

Mayor tacos with salsa and queso
    Justin R.

Went to this place based on a local recommendation. Yeah it's all cool looking and in a nice mall. How is the food though? Well I had the mayor tacos with a side of salsa and queso. I always like getting salsa because you can tell a lot about restaurant from their salsa. Well it wasn't impressive. I tasted a hint of oregano which I have no idea why anyone would want their salsa to resemble Italian sauce. Not the first time but don't get it. Second, the queso was lackluster. Very plain and needed something to make it kick. Would recommend having a premium queso with meat, avocado and a signature hot sauce. Now for the tacos. Ehhh is all I can say. Nothing great but had much worse but much better. If this is one of the best places in Alabama, which sign says as far as rankings, it's apparent Alabama isn't much into Mexican food.

Taco Mama offered an influencers dream of photo ops, the fun, vibrant environment complimented the food and drink offerings well. The employees were friendly and the service was quick. The margarita was the star of the show - your standard frozen margarita but delivered in every way you want it to! The tacos and chips were typical texmex style, I enjoyed the quac. The only downside is the location, the surrounding area didn't seem very safe. We were there around 6 and ended up getting to-go boxes and leaving before finishing in order to get back home before sundown.

Food was good. Service great. Atmosphere was good. would definitely eat there again very fulfilling.

    " braised Barbacoa"

Every time I come here, I'm just more and more disappointed. The food is bland on authentic borderline disgusting. The only reason I came is for my coupon from a work raffle. Breed Barbacoa just means some mushy wet bbq pork out of a bag. Street corn just means canned corn put into a cup. This is like if a white person read a Mexican recipe and took out everything that made Mexican food Mexican food. It's just basic cheese tomatoes and unseasoned meat. Staff is fine and friendly, but the food is what I would serve to a dog if I wanted to punish it .

Hubbie's Ahi Tuna-Si (It came with some sauce (not pictured) that was very good

We decided to come here since we were in the location . We were hungry and I remembered seeing this place previously but they weren't open then. So we decided to give it a try. We almost decided to leave when we saw the line and thought about going next door. An employee was outside giving out menus and he asked us if we wanted one. We saw a few things we wanted to try. Once we got inside the line went fast . We ordered The Mayor and a Orange Fanta for my son, I got a Justice is served with grilled flounder and a Pomegranate margarita and my husband got a Ah Tuna Si with a Mama's Salad with Shrimp & Lime Cilantro dressing and a especial Modelo . You order and then sit down they bring you your food . Pros-Food came quickly, Everything was seasoned well, Everything was SUPER fresh! The Cilantro Lime Vinaigrette was very good(Bottle that ya'll), The Pomegranate Margarita was good (3-4 on buzz meter) Drinks are 2 oz. Unless special requested(most places are less so that was a good surprise) Employees on the floor were attentive and asked if we needed anything, food came fast! Cons-Was loud(we couldn't hear the cashier and she couldn't hear us, I ordered corn tortillas but received flour, I didn't receive my slaw that came with my meal, The chips were a bit salty (still good ) just we are not used to salted food) , salsa was a bit thin (but good) Gets crowded super quick( we were there maybe 30 min from opening) (did progress quickly once inside) Asked for the tip at the start. We don't frequent establishments who have this practice. We are good tippers if it is deserved ! Asking for one before we have even sat down and dont know how the service is quite literally wrong. The price is a bit high for a casual place (I'm sure the location is the reason) lol The price was $106 and some change . That's more than Cajun steamer and it's a bit more fancier . All in all would we go again YES! If we are in the area we all liked our food even my picky son..

Great place for a fun dinner! We originally intended to go elsewhere, but when we drove by and saw the windows open, and we knew we had to stop! Get here early because there is always a line. I had the salad with shrimp. It's absolutely huge. Probably three meals. Very fresh. The dressing was so great! My friend had a quesadilla, which was very large, and she took plenty home for another meal. The margaritas were absolutely phenomenal! We had to have more!

Quick and fast service with delicious food. This location seems to always be crowded and busy. I love getting the build your own bowl.

Love love love coming here for a quick and easy meal, especially the location in the summit because it's right after you're done with all this hefty shopping! The service is super quick, the food is delicious! We always get the nachos to share and the portion sizes are huuuuge! You also can't go wrong with the drinks here! I always order the pomegranate margarita and it's delicious! Always love coming back.

I sadly got food poisoning from this place. I will admit to the food being good despite it not being authentic though.

Food wasn't really Mexican. Salsa made with unripe tomatoes. Street corn had weird sauce. No salsa bar. Pass

In fact, I'm getting warm feelings right now just thinking about my time here. Their vegan option is a nopal taco (tender, marinated cactus). It's excellent, but what makes it next level is that SALSA BAR with the best salsas I've ever had. It reminds me of taquerias in California. I drowned my taco in all of the sauces. In fact, I could probably be happy eating tortillas and salsa here. Because, yes, the tortillas are that delicious. As is that guac. Again, some of the best I've ever had, gimmicky tableside guac included (never felt that was such a great thing anyway). Here, you get a generous portion of the creamiest quality guac you can imagine. I can't report on the margaritas other than to say they look gorgeous. The wine pours are also generous and the prosecco is damn good.

Also the guacamole, the cheese dip and the tacos. They do have a full bar and can do frozen drinks. I loved that you can add your own toppings to your tacos. The tacos come with just meat. You can add onions, limes, cilantro and pickled onions and pickled jalapeños as well as sauce. They had a Verde sauce as well as regular salsa, and a Salsa Borachja sauce with onion, garlic and Mexican beer. It was spicy and delicious. They have plenty of counter seating, a few tables inside and several tables outside. This is a tapas bar more than a testaurant.

When we got seated outside by the friendly staff, we were given menus and free chips and salsa. As I nibbled on the chips and salsa which were just okay I browsed the drink menu. There's a full bar here and plenty of options. Over the course of the afternoon I tried the Frida's Rita and the wonderful rabbit. Both drinks weren't in your face with the tequila mezcal, they were mixed nicely and had a well rounded flavor. I much preferred the Woderful rabbit though as it tasted less watered down and the ginger beer paired with the mezcal was almost quenching. Overall if you're looking for a relaxing spot to enjoy Mexican cocktails this is a good spot! We did feel rushed to get out of there, and maybe it was because we weren't ordering food. Overall good experience however.

What we ordered: -Taco Salad (added steak) -Shrimp Tacos -Rumba Bowl (added shredded chicken and substituted white rice for Mexican rice) I can only attest to how the Rumba bowl tasted, but everyone's food came out incredibly fast. The bowl was a decent portion. It wasn't a ton of food, but it was the *right* amount of food- a fair serving that I would've made for myself at home. The bowl was good and my friends liked their dishes too. My overall consensus: Frida's is your typical Mexican restaurant. If I lived in this area I may eat here more often, but it's not necessarily something I'm likely to drive too from the outskirts of Hoover. I can probably get slightly cheaper and similar Mexican food closer to home. I'm happy to have tried it!
