Please take this review as being from a Californian. So this may not be applicable for others. The place has fun colorful decor and is very casual. So that is great for college students. Quick and easy ordering and delivery of food. Also positive. Now the food is ridiculous in size. That is also great for college students and I love that you can build your own burrito. That said, again from a Californian that is in Los Angeles county, this is not at all what I consider Mexican food as far as flavor. I did not have high expectations though. We were not planning to come here but the options were limited and it was for dinner for three hungry individuals that had a three and a half hour flight delay and missed our reservation to a yummy place. Again, if you're very hungry and don't need truly authentic Mexican this is a good option. But for me, this is a no go. read more

The food's good. Genuinely solid. But my god, the prices. Everything on this menu is thirty dollars. A taco? Thirty. A burrito? Thirty. I'm pretty sure I glanced at a side of chips and it was also, somehow, thirty dollars. I walked in with a wallet and walked out with a hollow leather shell that flinches when I open it. read more

My favorite date place in Auburn! Food is simple and agreeable but delicious! There's a great mix of customizability without overwhelming you with a billion options and superfluous toppings. There's often a line out the door, but it always moves quickly and the servers are surprisingly attentive considering you order and pay at the front. Defiant my go-to spot downtown! read more

College town must. Long lines at times but good food and atmosphere. They really do try and bust the lines quickly so that helps. Keep at it Taco Mama! read more

You must consider this place for a lunch spot! I always get the mama salad with the grilled shrimp and chipotle ranch. THE MARGS ARE TO DIE FOR read more

Never had a dud here. Packed always but they move a line quickly. I could drink the salsa ... and have !!! Queso above average ( Bow and Arrow leads the pack) workers always hustling. I wish the salsa was available at the grocery store. Love us some TM!!! Birria and Alabama Redneck are my go toos read more

Love Taco Mama!! This is the best spot to get fresh make your own Mexican dishes. It is very similar to a chipotle way of ordering where there are options like tacos, burrito, salad, quesadilla, bowl etc and then you can customize what is inside!! They also have a traditional menu with options as well! I love all their fresh ingredients!! And definitely try their margaritas- they have some great flavors! It does get super busy, so I recommend getting their early because you will probably need to wait. But definitely worth it!! read more

Good, worth the line. Prices are a little high but you pay with the size. Really flavorful and one of the best near Campus.

Ate here a couple of years ago. It was good. Ate there today and not all of it was good. Service was good. Fresh topping. My first taco had grease dripping out of it. The second one was as well, but the meat was so salty I couldn't eat it. The tray my tacos came in had grease sitting in the bottom. Didn't have time to complain and wait for them to make it right. Would have put me late for class. read more

Enormous portions. Had the Mercedes margarita which was potent. Barbacoa nachos were so large we couldn't finish them. I had a build your own bowl with steak which was fresh and flavorful. Also got chips & queso for the table which was very good. Great spot close to campus with energetic vibe and cool atmosphere. Glad there are more of these spread across other SEC towns! read more

Been in line for over an hour. None of the workers have any sense of urgency even though the line is out the door wrapping around the sidewalk read more

Great spot for lunch. Excellent food, cute interior, great service. Excellent prices.

We frequent this Taco Mama and this is the umpteenth time this has happened so be warned. the food is not the problem. the problem is standing in line for 45 minuted to 1 HOUR on a weeknight because you've got 1 girl ringing orders despite there being 5 people behind the counter. Understandably, some are food runners, bartenders, etc. But to have a line to the door consistently and only ONE person taking orders is ridiculous. read more

First time trying Taco Mama based on recommendations and we loved it! Freshly custom made, fun combos and good sides. Plus margaritas! Much better than chipotle or Moe's for the dining experience. It's reasonable price and super fast too! My son had pork burrito plate served with chips and salsa and he chose the mac and cheese side( surprisingly very good) I had salad bowl with chicken, i customer all toppings which are include no extra charge read more

This is a staple if you are in town for a game. It has such a great atmosphere. The young ladies working here are super helpful in giving food advice if you aren't a frequent flyer to a taco mama. They provide all the information you need whether it is a taco basket or build your own. There is an extensive margarita menu. The service is great and the food is absolutely delicious. The chips and queso are my favorite. The chips seem to be bottomless and the queso is so creamy. Do yourself a favor and stop by taco mama for a cold beverage and great food before or after a game. read more

Amazing. I'm biased--I used to work here. If you want something filling: get a quesadilla and add all the toppings you want. Get the chipotle ranch on the side. The salsa is amazing. Great vibe. The line is long when students are in town. Plan accordingly. read more

Place has gone down hill in the past couple of years... I'm about to be a senior and when i was a freshman i loved it. Now it's overpriced, and they have consistently messed up my orders. My final straw was when they gave me the wrong order and it was something i was allergic too. When i requested a refund and gave the order back my tip was not included in my refund and the lady i spoke with didn't even apologize for the mix up. Very disappointed. read more

Get in line (it's long but moves fast) and choose from several different taco offerings, burrito baskets, quesadillas, and more while building your own toppings (30 different toppings). For drinks, they have lots of different margaritas by the glass or pitcher, wine, and local and domestic beer options. It's counter service and they only have one line open for some reason but the food comes out almost immediately and then you grab a table. We ordered so much food, portions are big, and it was all great. Meals come with chips and salsa and you can add sides like queso for cheap. It was also kid friendly...my son said it was his favorite tacos ever. The girls at the counter were super friendly and helpful. Casual atmosphere. Perfect choice for laid back dinner. read more

This is a good "fills an empty spot" kinda place. The wait in line setup is a little weird but the food is pretty good.

WDT - War Damn Taco! The wife and I had lunch here on AU football game day. As you would expect, the restaurant was crowded. The ordering line stretched the length of the restaurant which gave us reason to consider going elsewhere. We decided to stay, and glad we did. While we waited in line, a hostess offered to take our drink orders and I thought that was a nice customer service touch. I ordered a frozen pomegranate margarita from the extensive list of margaritas. It was tart, sweet, and strong. A refreshing option that I would recommend. The line moved slowly, but the margarita helped it seem shorter. We sat at an available table on the narrow patio that runs along the front of the restaurant. It is a great spot to enjoy the Alabama blue skies and people watch. Our food arrived relatively quickly and we were happy about that. I ordered the Sizzler tacos on soft tortillas with a side of black beans. I thought the tacos were above average. The slices of beef were tender and flavorful. I especially like the fresh lettuce, tomato, and chunks of avocado. The black beans were okay, and they had a little spicy kick to them. The chips and salsa were just average. I thought the chips had a slight flour aftertaste. read more

Wow, this place is popular. Thankfully we didn't come any later or we might still be waiting in line! I had no idea about Taco Mama and its Birmingham roots before my friend enlightened me. I might've been expecting mediocre Tex-Mex beforehand but I got friendly staffers, price tags gentle on the wallet, and solid food. Taco Mama is a fast casual joint where you order at the counter, prepare your own drink, and sit down to wait for your grub. The offerings center around tacos (obviously), burritos, and quesadillas. I got the mix & match tacos for $9; you pick any 2 tacos and also get chips, salsa, and a side. I picked out the Justice is Served taco and The Sizzler taco. You also get to choose between soft shells and hard shells. The Justice Is Served taco can either come with flounder or shrimp (I got shrimp on a soft shell) and is prepared with avocado, tomato, ancho chile slaw, and roasted poblano tartar sauce. There was a reasonable quantity of shrimps and I felt beachy vibes as I ate. The Sizzler is a grilled steak tenderloin taco that also has avocado, lettuce, tomato, grilled onions, queso fresco, and red chile butter sauce. It was good too, out of a crunchy shell. The shells and tortillas are premade; Taco Mama could win extra points with me for offering up homemade versions. For my side, I requested the honey chipotle corn. It was okay but nothing too special. It could've been jazzed up with the addition of cheese. I'd probably get something else next time. Maybe should've followed the lead of others in my party with getting guacamole. The salsa that came with the chips actually ended up impressing me the most. And the chips were no slouches either since they were thin, crunchy, and salty. Yum. The tables on the patio are smaller and best suited for parties of 2. And I appreciate this: if the menu item doesn't list cilantro, you can rest assured there's no cilantro. You won me over right there, Taco Mama. read more

Came in on a busy Sunday night. Workers very friendly and fast service. Nice ambiance, clean bathrooms. I sat at the bar for drinks. The bartender Avery she was AMAZING ! Definitely would recommend this place (the burritos are top tier) . read more

The tacos are delicious and the Margaritas are spot on definitely will be on my repeat list.

This place is outrageously overpriced, with a simple burrito costing over $15. The ingredients aren't nearly high quality enough to justify such a price for an item that is very easy to prepare. For graduate students or university workers who want to get a quick lunch, this is totally unaffordable. The line wait time is often ridiculous, although fortunately I never waste my time going here anymore. read more

We were on a college visit and dropped in on Margarita night. The line was long but it was well worth the wait.

We stopped here for lunch before the Auburn soccer game and it was great. We walked in to a long line but they moved through it quickly. Once seated, we received our food very quickly. The food was delicious and every single order was exactly right. Very friendly staff. We will definitely be back! read more

Loved the vibe. Food was delicious too. I ordered a seasonal blood orange margarita..super tasty!

Stopped here while traveling through Auburn. We have been to the Taco Mama in Birmingham, so had an idea what to expect. This is a hopping spot in downtown. It was quite crowded and busy, despite school being out and the students presumably gone for summer. The service was fine. It is set up like a sports bar. The food was not quite as good as the Birmingham locations, so that's why I only gave it a 4. The rice was very undercooked. It could've just been that day, and the fact that they were so busy. That said, we would stop here again if in town. read more

Great food and good value. Long lines but worth it each time. Extra sides are wonderful.

I was visiting Auburn for work and colleague suggested this place. Boy am I happy she did, because I really enjoyed everything about his place. First off, I really liked the atmosphere. Great music, and a clean and well appointed restaurant too. I had a two taco combo, with one chicken taco (The Mayor) and steak one (the name escapes me) and both were delicious! Chicken was a tad dry, but that's common with shredded chicken tacos. Nicely seasoned, well made and the steak was tender and had a nice flavor too. I liked the side item choices (I had guacamole) and enjoyed it too. Nothing about his place was amazing, but it was all very good and that's all I'd ever expect in the first place. If I ever find myself back in Auburn, I'd certainly come back. Great staff too! read more

Great food and service! A perfect restaurant for a college campus. Margaritas were amazing and many different flavors. I had the burrito basket and was definitely a lot of food! read more

It's obvious that the college students love the atmosphere/vibe of this place. It's generally very busy/crowded with a long line to order food. Seating is sort of a free-for-all and never guaranteed. I've been here maybe three or four times hoping to order something that lives up to the hype. Bottom line is the food just isn't all that great. so if you're expecting good Mexican food, this probably isn't your place. read more

Food good Service terrible. Whole set up is bad. Standing in line for 40 minutes when empty tables are abundant. Only one register open but if you know the right people they'll open up another register and you can bypass the line. I was told I needed to stay in the long line to order food but clearly others could go to an open register. Poorly managed. Food makes it out before drinks are delivered at counter. Very odd set up and not at all smooth. read more
