Ate here a couple of years ago. It was good. Ate there today and not all of it was good. Service was good. Fresh topping. My first taco had grease dripping out of it. The second one was as well, but the meat was so salty I couldn't eat it. The tray my tacos came in had grease sitting in the bottom. Didn't have time to complain and wait for them to make it right. Love Taco Mama!! This is the best spot to get fresh make your own Mexican dishes. It is very similar to a chipotle way of ordering where there are options like tacos, burrito, salad, quesadilla, bowl etc and then you can customize what is inside!! They also have a traditional menu with options as well! I love all their fresh ingredients!! And definitely try their margaritas- they have some great flavors! It does get super busy, so I recommend getting their early because you will probably need to wait. But definitely worth it!! read more

Enormous portions. Had the Mercedes margarita which was potent. Barbacoa nachos were so large we couldn't finish them. I had a build your own bowl with steak which was fresh and flavorful. We frequent this Taco Mama and this is the umpteenth time this has happened so be warned. the food is not the problem. the problem is standing in line for 45 minuted to 1 HOUR on a weeknight because you've got 1 girl ringing orders despite there being 5 people behind the counter. Understandably, some are food runners, bartenders, etc. But to have a line to the door consistently and only ONE person taking orders is ridiculous. read more

This is a staple if you are in town for a game. It has such a great atmosphere. The young ladies working here are super helpful in giving food advice if you aren't a frequent flyer to a taco mama. They provide all the information you need whether it is a taco basket or build your own. There is an extensive margarita menu. The service is great and the food is absolutely delicious. The chips and queso are my favorite. The chips seem to be bottomless and the queso is so creamy. Place has gone down hill in the past couple of years... I'm about to be a senior and when i was a freshman i loved it. Now it's overpriced, and they have consistently messed up my orders. My final straw was when they gave me the wrong order and it was something i was allergic too. When i requested a refund and gave the order back my tip was not included in my refund and the lady i spoke with didn't even apologize for the mix up. Very disappointed. read more

Get in line (it's long but moves fast) and choose from several different taco offerings, burrito baskets, quesadillas, and more while building your own toppings (30 different toppings). For drinks, they have lots of different margaritas by the glass or pitcher, wine, and local and domestic beer options. It's counter service and they only have one line open for some reason but the food comes out almost immediately and then you grab a table. We ordered so much food, portions are big, and it was all great. Meals come with chips and salsa and you can add sides like queso for cheap. WDT - War Damn Taco! The wife and I had lunch here on AU football game day. As you would expect, the restaurant was crowded. The ordering line stretched the length of the restaurant which gave us reason to consider going elsewhere. We decided to stay, and glad we did. While we waited in line, a hostess offered to take our drink orders and I thought that was a nice customer service touch. I ordered a frozen pomegranate margarita from the extensive list of margaritas. It was tart, sweet, and strong. A refreshing option that I would recommend. The line moved slowly, but the margarita helped it seem shorter. We sat at an available table on the narrow patio that runs along the front of the restaurant. It is a great spot to enjoy the Alabama blue skies and people watch. Our food arrived relatively quickly and we were happy about that. I ordered the Sizzler tacos on soft tortillas with a side of black beans. I thought the tacos were above average. The slices of beef were tender and flavorful. I especially like the fresh lettuce, tomato, and chunks of avocado. The black beans were okay, and they had a little spicy kick to them. The chips and salsa were just average. Wow, this place is popular. Thankfully we didn't come any later or we might still be waiting in line! I had no idea about Taco Mama and its Birmingham roots before my friend enlightened me. I might've been expecting mediocre Tex-Mex beforehand but I got friendly staffers, price tags gentle on the wallet, and solid food. Taco Mama is a fast casual joint where you order at the counter, prepare your own drink, and sit down to wait for your grub. The offerings center around tacos (obviously), burritos, and quesadillas. I got the mix & match tacos for $9; you pick any 2 tacos and also get chips, salsa, and a side. I picked out the Justice is Served taco and The Sizzler taco. You also get to choose between soft shells and hard shells. The Justice Is Served taco can either come with flounder or shrimp (I got shrimp on a soft shell) and is prepared with avocado, tomato, ancho chile slaw, and roasted poblano tartar sauce. There was a reasonable quantity of shrimps and I felt beachy vibes as I ate. The Sizzler is a grilled steak tenderloin taco that also has avocado, lettuce, tomato, grilled onions, queso fresco, and red chile butter sauce. It was good too, out of a crunchy shell. The shells and tortillas are premade; Taco Mama could win extra points with me for offering up homemade versions. For my side, I requested the honey chipotle corn. It was okay but nothing too special. It could've been jazzed up with the addition of cheese. I'd probably get something else next time. Maybe should've followed the lead of others in my party with getting guacamole. The salsa that came with the chips actually ended up impressing me the most. And the chips were no slouches either since they were thin, crunchy, and salty. Yum. The tables on the patio are smaller and best suited for parties of 2. And I appreciate this: if the menu item doesn't list cilantro, you can rest assured there's no cilantro. You won me over right there, Taco Mama. read more

Stopped here while traveling through Auburn. We have been to the Taco Mama in Birmingham, so had an idea what to expect. This is a hopping spot in downtown. It was quite crowded and busy, despite school being out and the students presumably gone for summer. The service was fine. It is set up like a sports bar. The food was not quite as good as the Birmingham locations, so that's why I only gave it a 4. The rice was very undercooked. It could've just been that day, and the fact that they were so busy. Only one register open but if you know the right people they'll open up another register and you can bypass the line. I was visiting Auburn for work and colleague suggested this place. Boy am I happy she did, because I really enjoyed everything about his place. First off, I really liked the atmosphere. Great music, and a clean and well appointed restaurant too. I had a two taco combo, with one chicken taco (The Mayor) and steak one (the name escapes me) and both were delicious! Chicken was a tad dry, but that's common with shredded chicken tacos. Nicely seasoned, well made and the steak was tender and had a nice flavor too. I liked the side item choices (I had guacamole) and enjoyed it too. Nothing about his place was amazing, but it was all very good and that's all I'd ever expect in the first place. One of my favorite restaurants! The perfect mix of fast food and sit down restaurant. The food is awesome! There is often a long line, but it goes quick.
