While visiting Auburn, Alabama, we tried this restaurant for the first time. We were seated immediately for dinner, and the service was excellent! They are a busy restaurant, but they have many servers, which I appreciate. We began with their chips and salsa and then moved on to their guacamole dip, which comes with fresh avocados, tomatoes, and jalapeños. The guacamole was delicious. We also ordered their Patron margarita and another drink, the name of which I can't recall but it contains rum, tequila, and some other liquor. Both drinks were delicious. We chose their Texas Fajitas for dinner, and liked that they have this dinner for two option. You can never go wrong with fajitas for the most part, and their fajitas came with tender sliced beef, chicken, and shrimp with mushrooms, onions, tomatoes, and bell peppers. They come with a choice of flour or corn tortillas. The quantity was very generous, as shown by the photos below. The food is very flavorful and tasty. Not a bad place to visit for lunch, but I'm used to Tex-Mex, which has different interpretations across the country. Service was meh because of being understaffed due to a lack of workers, so a little patience is needed even during a weekday lunch. With the rise of CV-19 in Alabama, you may want to take your own precautions as I believe most of the staff was not wearing masks. But it was 2-3 weeks ago when I visited, things might have changed. Chips and salsa were good, I could bathe in the salsa. Didn't receive the queso we had ordered, but luckily we weren't charged for it. Margaritas weren't bad, not the best either. Skinny margarita was VERY sweet - tasted mostly of the mix and no tequila. No kick to the strawberry margarita. Had the mixed fajitas with shrimp for lunch. Had good flavor, but the additional cheese that was coated on top of the meat made it into a soup. And the additional guac, for a 1 oz portion, was not a good deal for the price. This review is only about the drinks! Saw the sign outside saying "Happy Hour Daily 4-7pm" so we had to try it out. They had 22oz margaritas buy one, get one half off which is a steal. We also tried the piña colada and coronaRita, all delicious. They're not the strongest drinks, but they're huge so I'm not sure you'd want them to be extremely strong. Worst Mexican I've ever had. With 20+ Mexican choices in Auburn, there's plenty of other options. I ordered a simple burrito & taco. Burrito tasted like horse meat and cheese with red sauce on top. The taco came with a store bought hard shell and stale, ground beef and nothing else. Wife had the chicken fajita salad, chicken was chewy and greasy, long skinny pieces that were nearly 1 foot long and not cut up. The chips were hard and stale taste like cardboard and salsa a pure tomato paste. It took 20 min to get the waiters attention and then he says "we have a no exchange policy" and "manager says we cannot take off bill". What a joke of a place! If you are looking for a bowl of grease that closely resembles Mexican food if you squint just right. Then to wash it down a glass of tequila with a dash of pineapple pulp they call a margarita. Fast to seat, typical texmex environment; loud. Salsa was mild. Our salsa included a weird chopping of onion. The food was below mediocre. I got the carne asada. The meat was tough and chewy, my plate came with a whole grilled onion and whole grilled jalapeños: both impossible to eat, wish it was just cut up like normal I guess. The lady ordered street tacos on corn tortillas. The corn tortillas had a musty smell to them and the steak was dry. Don't recommend this place despite the nice staff and quick seating read more

Agave Loco on Opelika Rd is our favorite Latino restaurant in Auburn and Opelika! The menu is extensive. The food is authentic, fresh, and delicious. And the service is terrific! I usually begin with a shot of Jose Cuervo. The draft beer selection is always good. And perhaps best of all for me is speaking my cowboy Spanish with Mario--our waiter and friend! Ate lunch with my boss today, got to work to open up my good from when we took our orders to go and found a bug cooked in my food. I ordered the Tex-Me. I will never eat there again. The manager argued that I left and could've opened my plate to allow a bug in however that was not true. My good had been but into a container and put into a bag at the restaurant. read more

Really gross. Nothing you get is what is described on the menu. The chips are also hard and taste like nothing. I ordered burritos and there was no mention of cheese on the menu in the description. When I got my burritos they were fully covered in cheese and cheese sauce. As someone who is lactose intolerant, I couldn't eat much of it. read more

Just tried Agave Loco for the first time tonight. This place had a great initial vibe, reminded me of a Mexican restaurant from home in San Antonio. Good smells, fun lighting, great atmosphere, clean and well kept. There was a solid crowd, the parking lot was packed which made parking difficult. Salsa and the hot chips were very good, the White Queso was spot on as well. My Green Chicken Enchiladas were exquisite.
