This place got super pricey over the last two years or so. I used to frequent this place as it was the closest Tex Mex place that reminds me of the ones I use to go to when I lived in Queens. Their new pricing is what you would find for a "better" sit down/dine in restaurant. Not sure if pricing differs from in person and online ordering but a meal for $28 for a place that looks like a take out spot doesn't seem right. I understand the pressures of inflation and food costs but they raised their prices significantly compared to like restaurants around the area. Haven't been here in a few years and it's changed. I don't recognize the people behind the counter so not sure if management changed. Seemed like they were not as effusively friendly or outgoing anymore, which is not a big deal. It was the food that was disappointing. One thing I miss about living on Long Island are the Tex-Mex restaurants. Yes, they're not of the highest quality, and usually they're in a cheap locations, and the horrible customer service is always a given, but I do enjoy the food every once in a while. After searching for a Tex-Mex restaurant, I stumbled across Taco King. This location is actually pretty big with plenty of sitting space. My usual go-to dish at a Tex-Mex place is the Grilled Steak rice platter, so I decided to stick with what I like. I thought the steak here was excellent. It came with one flour tortilla, rice, beans, salad, guac, and chili. The quality and proportion was better than what I expected. However, it was crazy expensive. I know I sound old, but I remember that only a few years ago, the same dish was about $8 or $9. Now it's over $17! I would gladly eat here more often if the price was cheaper, but it looks like my search for a Tex-Mex restaurant in Long Island will continue. read more

Used to come here all the time in high school & college. They have always had delicious food at very good prices. Took a trip down memory lane & went there today, not a thing has changed, down to the same woman at the counter! She's always very friendly. Went with a steak rice platter which came with enough food that I was able to bring home leftovers for later! The food comes out quicker now than I remember back when I went regularly, almost within a couple of minutes even during a lunch rush. I tried this place for the first after passing it by many times and happy I did. The restaurant is decorated with pictures of customers in Taco eating contests and other items. Their service is pretty quick , I ordered the shrimp taco bowl, it was really good, next time I'll order less lettuce. The green sauce is really good. This is the first non-mexican owned taco place where the food tasted good! The chicken placed inside the tacos were not dry&overcooked like other non-mexican taco places. So I forgot to take pics for 2 reasons . 1. The delivery came wayyy quicker than I expected and 2. It was delish and hadn't picked up my phone the entire time. I ordered the shrimp taco and the steak and chicken burrito. I am a huge shrimp snob and I expect it to taste fresh and be completely deveined so I was hesitant as I examined each shrimp before I took a bite. To my pleasant surprise the shrimp was clean, the salad crisp and green no soggy slices or anything. That taco was really scrumptious. The burrito was yummy as well. I was however expecting more meat, especially since I ordered chicken and steak. I did find that like most places they were heavy on the rice. I love ordering from here for lunch. The food truly comes to me fresh and hot. They always listen to what I would like them to include and/or not include in my salad without issue. Lots of places have tacos but don't have a classic taco that you think of when you think tacos lol! They all have the jazzed up versions of tacos lol! We got two grilled chicken tacos, a shrimp taco, and a shrimp burrito. The tacos were delicious! The burrito was too much and whatever rice they use I don't like. But other than that I'll be back for more tacos!!!! It's got a really large shared parking lot so parking is easy enough to get. The girl at the counter was friendly. I asked her for a suggestion and she informed me that it was taco Tuesday so that helped me make my decision. How can you go wrong with .99 tacos? I grabbed a Snapple and there you have it. I normally despise Mexican food because it takes a lot of coordination to eat without making a mess everywhere. But this place was amazing. You couldn't tell from just looking at it, it's a quaint place with a cute jungle theme, however their food is amazing. I had a chicken supreme quesadilla and they were able to pack a lot in there without it falling out everywhere. We also had the two different nachos and there were enough toppings for every chip (so there was not a whole bunch of chips left at the end). File this spot as a guilty pleasure. Since moving to LI I've eaten here a number of times over the years, but never felt compelled to write a review. I'm not even sure what I like about this place - is it because it's convenient to where I live? Is it because I usually order when my wife isn't around? (she's not a fan - so this place has been taken out of our usual rotation). Do I actually like the way the food tastes? I must admit, I do. Don't get me wrong there are some weird elements like that plasticky nature of the cheese and the way it melts, the "hot" salsa hardly registering as mild and the wateriness of the guacamole (must use those Florida avocados or something?), but something makes me overlook those things. I tend to stick to the chicken and beans items when I order from here, but strangely enough I do like their tex-mex chili nachos (weird cheese textures excluded). I like the way they toast up the tortillas to make them slightly crispy in their quesdillas. The food is fast and service is friendly and efficient. Lettuce was flat, meat was room temperature, sour cream was lacking, and 2 cubes of tomato. Basically it was a bunch of bread. They also don't have much to select from at the salsa bar. Don't get the chips and salsa either because the chips are stale. I'd rather go to Taco Bell, and that says a lot because I'm from California and I've had good Mexican food so I don't feel the need to ever go to Taco Bell. I called the restaurant and after being on hold for 2 mins I finally was able to ask for a manager. The manager gets on the phone, already sounding annoyed. Surprised at so many positive reviews of Taco King. This place is okay for what it is...Chinese-Mexican food. It is not great by any means, but it certainly isn't bad, which is why I find myself coming here every few months. Nothing really noteworthy about the menu options, but I usually stick with the tacos or quesadillas. The two things that sink Taco King are the prices and the terribly inconsistent food. The prices, in my opinion, are too high for the quantity and quality of the food being served. If you want fast-food Mexican, it probably makes more sense to just go to Taco Bell, spend a few dollars less, and leave with a full stomach. For about $9 at Taco King, you can get a combo meal which consists of a tiny little taco and a quesadilla which is about 6 inches in diameter. Worth it? Not in my opinion. Maybe it would be worth it if the food was anywhere above average and the meat didn't taste like it came straight out of the microwave.
