If you're not familiar with Paradiso, they have 5 restaurants in eastern North Dakota (Fargo, Minot, Grand Forks, Grand Knives and Grand Spoons, I believe).* This location feels like a 1970s Mexican restaurant in America. There's a separate, small bar, which often features NFL games, as well as the restaurant itself, obviously. I like the stucco interior and decor. It's kind of nostalgic, but it doesn't feel dated... things are in good shape and it's clean. The food is quite good. Our favorite is the veggie fajita: lots of grilled veggies, and a large side plate of refried beans, rice, lettuce, sour cream and guacamole... maybe shredded cheese as well, but don't quote me on that. Our other favorite is the jalapeno burrito, which is exactly what it sounds like: a burrito full of jalapeno peppers, along with refried beans and a red sauce and maybe some cheese. (Sorry, I'm having cheese amnesia with Paradiso!) ** Simple, innovative and delicious! It will warm your belly and taste buds. It's not too spicy, so don't be afraid to try it, unless you think pickled jalapenos are super spicy... then don't try it. If I had a complaint, it's that I don't like some of the vegetable choices in their dishes. For example, the veggie and cheese enchiladas had broccoli in it, which was okay but questionable, but worse is that it has firm baby carrots in it and those just didn't go with that entree. It's easy enough to eat around those, at least. Service is pretty good: not outstanding, but no complaints at all either. Overall, the Paradiso in Jamestown earns a solid four stars! * Note: It's actually Fargo, Minot, Grand Forks, Jamestown and Bismarck. ** Cheese amnesia probably isn't a real thing.

The place was loud and busy when we walked in, though that seemed to be part of the atmosphere. There's also quite a bit of outdoor seating available. The menu is pretty standard for what you'd expect from a Midwest Mexican restaurant. One difference is that they make fresh guac tableside. Caveat emptor: you do pay extra for this. The complimentary chips come with three different dips, which was a nice touch. Not sure what the rest of our party ordered, but I had the Fiesta Bowl and it was delish. Staff were super friendly and helpful.

The atmosphere was fun and welcoming, and the service was quick and friendly. I started with the blueberry margarita, and it was so good -- super refreshing and packed with flavor. For my meal, I ordered the Burrito Mex and subbed shrimp. It was delicious, even though I originally thought it would be more of a handheld burrito -- it wasn't, but the flavor made up for it! The rice and beans were amazing, perfectly seasoned, and the queso was incredibly good too. Honestly, everything on the plate hit the spot. We also ordered guacamole before our meals, and they made it right at the table, which was such a fun touch. It came out super fresh and customizable, just how we like it. Overall, Plaza Azteca was a great experience!!
