Ok, I know Peru is a small town. It rolls up the streets by 9 pm. But if your hours indicate you are still open, lights on, workers inside, drive through lit up , then be on it! Pulled in at 10:06 pm to drive up - sat at order screen over 5 minutes - no person came on. Talked to screen hoping someone would hear: no response. Disgusted, I pulled away. I stopped in for a quick, late lunch on my Sunday route. I've been here before & it was ok, plus there isn't one close to me. I got their #1, which is two tacos (hard or soft), ole's (potato hash rounds) & a drink. The hard tacos were pretty good, especially with a little of their sauce. The ole's were much better than I expected! I had them plain because I didn't want to spend the extra ~$1.50 extra for the queso or sour cream, each. The fountain lemonade was good, too. I'm a little torn on Taco John's. On the one hand, it's a welcome break from Taco Bell, which has been in all our lives for 50+ years. On the other hand, I find that the food simply lacks the flavor and fun of Taco Bell. I've stopped into this restaurant about three times in the last six months, and while service is always great, each meal has left me feeling a bit underwhelmed. I do appreciate that they still have humans at the counter to take your order, unlike practically every one of their competitors. In conclusion, if you're looking for a Mexican-themed fast-food restaurant that will fill you up without necessarily knocking your socks off, then I can recommend Taco John's. read more

I cannot resist stopping here when I'm back home. Potato Olés with the nacho cheese dipping sauce are such a nostalgic treat, and if you don't live near a TJ's, you simply can't pass them up. I also grabbed a soft shell taco supreme, which was decent. Service was quick and kind! read more

We were in Peru and stopped at taco John's. It was amazing I actually had meat on my taco ,even enough that it was falling out. I stopped going to Taco Bell when I got a taco with only one bit of meat on it and it was a very small bite. But taco John's is more like home made with a lot of meat and was a Tue ( which is taco Tuesday and the tacos are $1.39) so I even bought some to take home for the family supper. My husband and I are obsessed with this place! Every time we go out of town we look for a TJ! I always get the meat and potatoes burrito, hubs gets the super burrito l. His only complaint is no more black olives. . As usual the food was tasty, hot and staff was super friendly. We got a side of oles with cheese and I tried a shrimp street taco. That was delish too! I was super excited to see that a Taco John's location was opening in Peru. I have been a fan of Taco John's ever since I lived there in Illinois with a location 6 blocks from my house. I frequently work in Peru, so this location is perfect. I love that Taco John's serves breakfast until 11:00 am. They have vegetarian options, and the breakfast burritos are always hot and fresh. Potato Ole's are excellent for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Even for a snack! Don't leave without them. Employees are super friendly at this brand new location. I haven't had Taco John's since probbly high school and that's been a few days ago. My cousin took me for lunch today. We both had Taco Bravos and Potato Ole's. The Taco Bravo is a hard shell taco wrapped in a soft shell that is covered with refried beans. Keeps the taco from falling apart. The potato olés are hashrounds that have been salted and you can get cheese and sour cream to dip them in. Everything was great. They are higher priced than Taco Bell also better quality food. read more

Ordered 2 six packs at the drive through, waited 20 minutes for my order. Got all the way home and only had half of my order. Went back and they tried to give me the other half that was sitting on the counter. Not even an apology. Used to be my favorite, but the service is not what it used to be. read more

I used to stop at Taco John's fairly often when I lived in SD but it had been a few years. It's a nice new building, the staff was nice and courteous and the food was good. I have only stopped at this location during breakfast hours so it's never been super busy or anything. No complaints. read more

Totally disappointed. We were looking forward for Taco John's to reopen. Anticipating it to be like it was at the previous location. It is no where anything like it used to be. The tacos were REALLY thin. All four tacos were barely 2" thick placed together. Each might have had 1 1/2 tablespoons of ingredients. The shells; they tasted old. The tater tots; super salty. TJ was great when they first opened. I enjoyed going there often. June of this year food was cold 3/4 times. Thought I would give it one last chance yesterday. Mobile order to be brought out at 428pm. At 440 pm I went inside to check on it. No one wating to order, two cars in line outside, and three people working. My order was sitting on the prep counter . I was told by person at counter that they didn't know I was there. When I asked for the manager, Xander replied that he was the manager. Went to taco John's for the first time today and the food is fantastic not burnt or too crispy,the drinks are huge, the employees are super nice and all in all it's a good time when you get your food; sure the line is a little long but that's what happens when you go to a place that sells good food! read more

Cold food, stale shells, drinks are flat. And they don't give out sauce unless you remember to ask and then they don't give enough. I ordered 8 tacos and got 4 sauces. I missed having a taco John's for years, when we got them back sadly I would rather go to Taco Bell. read more
