A local drive in diner in Peru, Indiana that's been here for over 50 years. Dine in your vehicle like how I remember A&W drive in diners when I was growing up. Can also dine on picnic tables and also inside but inside dining is very limited tables. You just pull in and turn on your headlghts for service for the carhop. read more

Hot dogs are boiled and gray colored. Didn't receive my entire order. Apparently ordering everything on burgers is only mayo pickle and lettuce. The only positive is the price but still makes it expensive when you don't receive what you order read more

Best ice ever! Quick easy affordable option - fun for the kids. The staff were friendly and food came quick. read more

I absolutely loved this place. Quick service, delicious food, and a huge menu. Actually the menu can be a little intimidating, so if you're not sure what to get definitely trust the opinion of whoever comes to take your order because we got some amazing suggestions from them. We went when it was on the warmer side out. I'm not sure what the place is like when it's cold out... but wow was the Smashburger good, fries were very tasty, and they got the biggest sodas you've seen in years. We even got some merch. If I'm ever back through this way, we will definitely be stopping again. read more

Mr Weenie is a drive in only restraunt. It's in a little the town of Peru. I first saw it maybe 10 years ago but never stopped in. My wife and I were passing by the area and felt we had to try it. It reminded me of the old time drive in places. You pull into a spot flash your lights if needed to signal you are ready to order. Service was prompt. Menu is limited but good for a driver in. Food came out in a short period of time and it was still hot. They left the tray on the window as expected. Prices were good, portion sizes were good. I found the food quality and taste were also good. What makes this place a must try is that is a drive in. There is an awning in case it's raining. Server was friendly and equipment was clean and in good order. Place was not packed but there seemed to be quite a few cars doing the same thing we were. I enjoyed it. Overall a good experience. Would I stop there again. If I find myself passing thru the area again I would definitely stop back in. read more

Good: Quick service. Picnic tables. Amazing pricing. Cash/card. Small town business Cons; Cheeseburger felt basic and dry. Apple fries aren't even a thing on menu but still posted. Maybe try a variety of items to see what good. Root beer float is amazing! read more

they took our order like normal and everything was fine. when the car hop brought us our food my wife asked for a fork and extra ketchup. the car hop then argued with us that the forks and ketchup were in the containers. so i stopped and checked nope it wasn't so i asked again for forks and ketchup. i happen to have a dairy allergy and i always order the double hamburger..... that in its self says no cheese. but they put cheese on it, which happens to me a lot i don't usually get nasty or anything. i called the car hope out to get it fixed and the one who came out different from the original one, apologized and took it to get it fixed. the original car hop brought it back and as i unwrapped it i found a chunk of cheese dead center of the burger again! so again i called the car hope back and told her it had cheese on it again. she then argued with me that it was just a little piece and stuff. so i told her i have an allergy to dairy take it back and fix it correctly. so now after multiple arguments and 15 mins of waiting i finally got my sandwich fixed correctly i think. its a complete shame that a business we have gone to for years has fallen so far as for me to give them a 1 star review. to be honest i would have given then 0 stars after this experience. its will be a very long time before we go back if ever. so to the owner of Mr Weenie get your staff in order cause if you don't you wont have a business left. read more

Just a classic drive-in restaurant with concession level food but a great name and old school feel. The prices can't be beat and they even have "It's Mr. Weenie Time" shirts and boxers for sale. Definitely worth the stop if you're in the area. read more

Worst food I have ever eaten in Peru, IN. Got the tenderloin platter which comes with tenderloin sandwich, krinkle fries and slaw. The actual tenderloin was very thin and was almost all breading (no kidding the meat was as thin as the thickness of a penny). The fries were soggy, undercooked and cold in the center. The slaw was good. Had to ask for ketchup (server didn't bring any) and had to ask for our drinks (server forgot them). Seriously this was bad and I will not be back. Plenty of other places to eat with better food. read more

Mr Weenie - Penny held up to paper thin "tenderloin" - Hot Dogs Near Me - Peru, Indiana

Been driving by for years and finally stopped. So glad we did! It was a great experience and I loved the Chicago Dog.. My son was very happy with his double cheese burger basket and my daughter loved the patty melt basket. Very reasonably priced. Quick and helpful service. No complaints and we will be going back. It's so nice to have a drive in open in the cold! read more

Fun old drive in style service. Had the Chicago style dog and it was really good!! All beef dogs, juicy and hot! Service was great. Fun off the beaten track stop! read more

Pretty darn good weenies. Their Chicago dog was very authentic first time I tried it--today just a bit off. Onions in chunks--a piece of cabbage in a chunk in the Cole slaw. Service seems a bit hit or miss also. But the food is cheap, and good, and you're at a drive in!! Excellent crinkle fries too. read more

Mr Weenie - Sign - Hot Dogs Near Me - Peru, Indiana

I had been looking forward to trying Mr. Weenie ever since I first saw it as I rode past while out on other errands several times. Sadly, it was nothing like what I expected. Pulling in, the grounds appeared to be quite clean. The area underneath the awning was shady and looked like it would be a comfortable place to sit. We chose to remain in our vehicle and turned on our headlights for curbside service after briefly looking over the menu. They had a few exotic sounding items such as a hot dog whose name made me think it must have come with pineapple on it. A carhop waitress came over right away. She wasn't rude but was a bit curt. The server quickly took down our order and asked for my credit card before she had even put in the order. I thought that was a bit backwards, and it had me wondering whether they have had problems with patrons taking off without paying. It felt odd to be asked to pay and tip before knowing fully what the service was like. The menu items were inexpensive, but we soon realized why. The portions were pretty small. Our breaded mushroom order only came with a small handful of se en of them. No dipping sauce or condiments of any kind were offered. Neither were napkins. The cheese fries were frozen crinkle cuts that did not taste like they had been cooked all the way through. The cheese seemed to be nothing more than melted American. My friend's root beer float was good, apparently, except for being served in styrofoam instead of a glass mug. I chose to get a small cream soda. I received RED cream soda though, which was okay, but it wasn't what I expected. It was indeed small, and the cup mostly consisted of crushed ice. And, it too, was served in styrofoam. No one asked if we wanted anything else, and a different, friendlier girl collected our tray. Never saw the waitress I tipped again. I've heard that Mr. Weenie has a pretty good tenderloin, but going by what we had, I'd say the food was less than "meh." I'm glad I didn't opt to get a t-shirt or one of their other items on sale when we pulled in because I just can't see being a walking advertisement for them. I don't see any reason to return. Which is a shame because I'm told they are open year-round. Even though it's pricier and closed now until Spring, I would much rather visit B&K in Rochester again. This experience was just another reason to stay out of Peru. With so few options in town, it sucks that this couldn't have been a better choice for a midday snack attack. read more

How in the heck does this place not have great ratings?!?!?! My family and I had dinner here earlier tonight and we all enjoyed it very much! The kids got the corn dog kids meals, my wife got the tenderloin basket and I got the double cheeseburger basket, comes with fries and coleslaw, was all very tasty! The staff were all very friendly and helpful about any questions I had about the menu. They even sale T-shirt's, hoodies, hats, etc. we all had to get T-shirt's, well my wife got the hoodie! If we are ever in the area again we will definitely stop here for a meal or wouldn't mind trying the shakes or something like that as well! I recommend trying this place out if you like drive-up kind of restaurants, I love them! read more

It's a great old fashioned drive in with tons of options. The hotdogs perfectly delicious and everything you could want in a dog. My husband had the Spanish dog, and I would definitely come back for it. My classic with relish, onions, ketchup, and mustard was everything I was looking for. And the staff was very friendly and attentive. read more

Passing through Peru and thought this would be a good place to grab a quick bite to eat. Marketing is pretty funny and sure does grab attention. They have a big variety on the menu with prices that are very hard to find these days. I had the Spanish dog which didn't stand out any. The weiner looked to be boiled and the chili had no flavor. To make things worse my date had to pull a hair from her weiner... causing us to not finish our meal. We inspected the rest of our food and found that our 32oz root beer was 3/4 full and no seasoning to be found on the fries. No more weiner time for us read more

Went here today with my parents and the family dog Soul Train. We pulled in under the giant illuminated Mr. Weenie saw the giant Menu and then a lovely girl showed up at our window asking if we needed help or if we were ready. We got the Cheese burger basket which is great patties are thin but good so get a double!:) Tenderloin fried was delicious ! Crinkle cut fries were good and the foot long chili cheese dog and a corn dog were superb! And do not forget the onion rings ! And large Root Beer! The young lady asked if we would like a plain hot dog for Soul but we opted for a child's Vanilla ice cream cup since Soul had just had lunch! All this food and a side of coleslaw with a smile made this 25$ meal including a $5 tip a great way to spend a Saturday lunch outing:) read more

For the past 26 years of my life, I've had plenty of hot dogs, seen many small Indiana towns, but no hot dog shop matches my experience at Mr. Weenie. The restaurant sign is a weenie with a hat and bow tie. It's one of those drive-up gigs with the menu in view when you park, ladies and teenage girls take your order, and they bring out the food good and hot right to your car. They have every kind of dog imaginable from corn and Spanish dogs to Wrigley and Chicago-style dogs, and everything you'd ever want fried on the side. Mr. Weenie does stay busy, because even at 2:30 PM they were crowded. Experience Mr. Weenie for yourself in friendly Peru Indiana, which is right next to Mexico, and happens to be the circus capital of the USA. YUM!! read more

Mr Weenie - Peru's hidden treasure! - Hot Dogs Near Me - Peru, Indiana

Fun retro feel. The dogs were good. Lots of selections. Reasonably priced. A great "experience"

Ok, seriously, you have to stop for the personality of the place if nothing else! It's a throwback divey drive-in that has a large selection of, you guessed it, weenies. I really do like the spanish dogs and the spanish cheese fries. They have tenderloins and fried sides such as onion rings, mushrooms, cauliflower, and hold onto your weenies, gizzards. Yes, if you are so inclined, fried gizzards. After you eat and take pictures of the giant Mr. Weenie marquee, step inside and buy yourself the near impossible to resist souvenir "It's Mr. Weenie Time" t-shirt. I kid you not! read more

First time here & I it!! Great service, friendly, decent prices, delicious out of this world FOOD l will DEFINITELY be back

I had high hopes for an old style drive-in Mr. Weenie. And thankfully, you can get a slaw dog...yummo. Overall, I'd rate a 3.5 star. In the words of the sweetie - the weenies are too teenie. She loved the coney sauce though and we both really liked our onion rings - breaded on site I believe. Served crisp and piping hot. Advice - whatever you order, unless you've got a carload of ankle biters - order with the big dog or brat. (an extra $1.25 but well worth the price as the normal weenie is about a 1 ounce weenie - 16 to a pound - about as big around as my wifey's pinky finger) Funny: take an extra $13-15 and get yourself a "It's Mr. Weenie Time" pair of boxers or a t-shirt. We snickered at that the whole time we were there. read more

I had the breaded tenderloin sandwich which I thought lacked any kind of seasoning at all. The meat wasn't dry but they put very little mayo on it even though I asked for it specifically. The breadstick with cheese inside, I forgot the name, was just okay, a little oily. There's a large menu and perhaps there are some good items but I didn't have much luck with my order. read more

No masks / not over nose. Food below average too. No masks / not over nose. Food below average too.

The labor shortage has hit Peru! Slow slow slow service. Hard to believe we waited half hour for hotdogs! It has been a few years since we patronized Mr. Weenie and it will certainly be a few more. If you're looking for hot dogs in Peru, I'd suggest B&K. read more

Quintessential Hoosier drive-in. Great foot long Spanish dogs and fried mushrooms. Only reason not giving 5 stars is because they don't have frosty mugs for the root beer. read more

This place sucks!. Ordered a cheeseburger on special Friday for 1.50. Called it in for carry out. Told 10 mins. Came 5 mins just in case. Walked up to the door to save time having a carhop walking to my car. Stood there like a beggar for for 3 or 4 mins waiting on someone to acknowledge me. All the while saw my bag on the inside counter getting cold. Finally a girl asked me if they could help me. I told her my name and order, she came back and told me a total different price....3 something. I said your sign says 1.50 for a cheeseburger she responds ya ur right I'll be back. Still paid 2.09 for a cheeseburger. False advertising at it's best! Plus it was cold as heck from sitting on counter for so long. NEVER AGAIN. read more

My only wish is that their daily specials would be easier to find... We'd probably visit more often if their menu and special schedule were easier to locate. Wish they had later summer hours, too! Coleslaw is wonderful and made fresh there. Also they have the good ice. This is important to some people.

This place was not good. We were the Only customers there and it took 30 minuets. Then food came out cold. My Chicago dog was cold and the onion rings were not even warm and tasted like they sat for an hour. My friends hamburger and fries were cold also and his soda had no carbonation. I come to Peru every two weeks I will never eat here again. I suggest you don't read more

My grandma and I stopped by over the weekend and we were disappointed with our visit. We did not get one of the hot dogs we paid for, and we were also charged for a hot dog we did not even order (or receive). When I called, the girl who answered was very rude but told us that if we came back in 3 days max, they would fix it. However, when my grandma returned today, with the receipt for proof, and explained the situation, they accused her of lying about the (2) hot dogs that we never got. They were rude about the entire matter, again. They gave her a refund for one, but we were still charged for another one that will apparently never be taken care of. We will definitely not be returning. read more

We ate here after a bike ride from Peru south to Cassville. Hot dog with sauerkraut, hot dog was not hot, sauerkraut was a dark brown and slimy, worst I have ever eaten. Onion rings were very good, mushrooms were not hot either. Iced teas that were supposed to be flavored were bland. I would not visit again. read more

I eat here and live close to Mr. Weenie's and they are a good place to eat. They are very reasonable on their prices.

About as plain as vanilla. Cheap food served to you I'm in a semi and u can park your truck between them and autozone. I got 3 coneys they call Spanish dogs and a slaw dog a large fry and large Coke under 10$. Buy a shirt help this lil place stay open. Hand spun shakes though. read more

Of course I give it an excellent rating. I don't remember how many decades ago it was, but I got a phone call from my brother Barry Burkhart and he asked me if I could design a sign for his new fast food business. I said sure and the Mr. Weenie sign and restaurant are still there, even though Barry and I are now retired and live in Florida with our families. When I do return for a visit...I always make my way to Mr. Weenies for a hot dog and those great onion rings. Ron Burkhart read more

The food here is excellent! I may be an out-of-towner, but I've never had a problem here. It is a staple whenever I visit.

10/10 That bald kid makes a mean mr. burger. Highly recommended. The carhoppers are fast and super nice. Loved my experience there.
