Steak street tacos, potato ole's, taco bravo, off menu house dressing
    Wes K.

Great road trip food! I had never eaten at a Taco John's prior to this trip. I was coming back from out of state and what better place to fuel your car and your belly - or your eighteen wheeler, than hitting a Love's Gas Station that is complete with a Subway, gas station fare, trucker showers, and a Taco John's? I will say the folks I was traveling with set the bar pretty high for Taco John's - not to be confused with Papa John's - so the hype was going to be hard to live up to. They ordered off menu, which is a power move for anyone ordering fast food. This is where I learned about the taco burger and the "house dressing". I don't think either were on the menu, but they ordered it like pros. I backed off the baller ordering and went with the taco bravo and steak street tacos, but I did squeak in that I wanted the "house dressing". The kid at the counter knew I didn't really know the secret handshake so they delivered my order minus the house dressing, so I took the walk of shame back to the counter to get it. A nice manager-ish lady brought it out from the secret sauce vault in the back. Now I was good to go! Not to be forgotten and where I used most of the house dressing, was the potato oles'. I know these sound amazing and they actually are, but they are the same thing as Chick-fil-A hash browns - just with a snazzy Taco John's spin. Well ok, instead of a spin it is more of a cup. The discus like tots come in a cup, but once you dip them in the house dressing you'll be saying ole'! My street tacos were good. I think the taco bravo was the winner for me. It is a crispy corn tortilla shell with all the taco stuff inside, but the bravo part is in the soft flour tortilla shell with refried beans and cheese spackled against the corn tortilla. It will make you say bravo! I really enjoyed my visit here and especially enjoyed the ambiance of hearing "stall 2 your shower is ready" across the Love's intercom. That is a glamorous part of cross country trucking that Smokey and the Bandit never exposed! Enjoy! ********* My Standardized Yelp Ratings 5 stars - This is for a place that I see as one of the best at what they do (steaks, sandwiches, BBQ, seafood, etc). 5s are for places I've been several times (typically) at least and never had an "off" experience. The food quality, service, price and atmosphere are all going to meet or exceed expectations. 4 stars - This is for a place that is good, I would drive a little out of the way to go, and the food and service is good, but maybe not amazing. Also for me, this could also be a great place that serves Pepsi products - automatic 1 star loss - bad management decision. 3 stars - This is for a place that I view as standard. Nothing special, nothing lousy, not a place you'd avoid like the plague, but a place that is not one you really look forward to either. 2 stars - This is for a place that had something go wrong or something perpetually wrong. The food and or service is likely consistently suspect here (they probably serve Pepsi too). 1 star - I can't see wasting time writing a review on a place that gets a 1 star. This is for a place that should consider closing.

If I had someone to be my designated driver I would have had the 2 for 1 margaritas which is a Monday special. The restaurant interior was bright and funky! There are tables and booths available. The bar area has an extensive selection of tequila. I've seen bottles that I've never seen before. Our server was so friendly and extremely attentive. Both our drinks and food were served in a timely manner. I ordered the Horchata and it was delicious! I ordered the chicken fajitas for lunch and the portion was huge! I was definitely able to take some home. The food tasted so fresh. In addition to the 2 for margaritas on Monday, I am so impressed by the number of daily specials this restaurant has. Other specials include $3 taco Tuesdays, 2 for 1 Mezcalitos on Wednesdays and 2 for 1 cocktails on Thursdays for the ladies. There is also a Happy Hour which includes discount margaritas and $3 tacos. There is plenty of free parking.

I was in Longmont for the home and garden show and I was hungry so this was my opportunity to give Rosa's Cantina a try. They were very busy but I was greeted and seated promptly. The place is nice and they have a lot of seating and a patio but too cold that day for outdoor dining. I ordered the Burrito Tijuana which looked to be a good choice based on the menu description. The burrito was very good with a generous portion of steak. The chili smothering the buritto was flavorful but not very spicy. I wish they provided a little more pico salsa on the side, there was probably a teaspoon of pico. I enjoyed the buritto, it was sizeable, flavorful but not spicy enough for my taste buds. The server was good, she was attentive and pleasant. The place was clean, prices were reasonable, service was good as well as the food. Would I go back ? I might go back if the planets align but I wouldn't make a special trip. My only real letdowns were the shortage of pico and they don't offer free chips and salsa. I've come to expect and appreciate Mexican restaurants who still offer free chips and salsa.
