Carne Asada Quesadilla
William C.

It's hard to give 5 stars to a taco place. Outwardly, they all seem the same and all have the same menu. But...Taco Jalisco is a cut above the rest. The staff is friendly and helpful, the interior is roomy and clean and the food is top quality. Specifically, the carne asada is the best I've had in the valley, with crispy browned edges that you don't always see in other places.

Chilaquiles and eggs over medium

I lived in Southern California for 50+ years and I'm glad that this was the meal I ate before my move to Canada. This restaurant has everything, authentic Mexican food (probably the most delicious I've had for chilaquiles EVER), kind and attentive staff (especially Erick, the young waiter). I'm not kidding. Try this place! I ordered my next meal from here to eat on the road to go, it was THAT GOOD.

Tim Cook from Apple stopped in for lunch!

Absolutely the best spot in the Coachella Valley for delicious Mexican food. The family that owns and runs this restaurant treats each and every customer as if they part of the family. The food and menu selection is amazing, and the atmosphere is so relaxing and clean. In fact, Apple CEO Tim Cook recently stopped in for lunch! Give this place a try when if live in the area or are just driving through. They are conveniently located just south of the 10 freeway on Monroe.

Carne asada torta, birria soup, and posole

This place was on our way out of Coachella. We walked in and ordered at the front. I got a cappuccino and the birria soup. I also shared a carne asada torta with my boyfriend. He got an horchata and posole and later got a Mexican coke. The cashier was also the one serving our food. He helped us decide what to order and was so nice. He also made sure to check on our table and make sure we didn't need anything. Amazing service and great food. I would definitely recommend and we will be back again next year!

HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE, for yourself or for your family. Food was amazing, very tasty, and hot, my family finished there plates completely. I recommend the birria soup it came with tortilla, lemon, onion and cilantro and also as an appetizer they give you chips with beans, cheese, and jalapeño while you wait for your food. Very fast service and super clean. Super friendly and very nice staff. The staff let my small 5 pound poodle (dog) in and also gave her a taco without even asking for it. Went above and Beyond with the service. They gained a loyal customer, my family will definitely be coming here after our ocotillo wells riding trips. They let us stay after closing to finish our food as well. The staff was amazing, extremely nice and sweet, and welcoming on February 21,2026.

I'm a fan of mom-and-pop businesses. I'd rather keep money local, if I can. Taco Jalisco allows me to do exactly that. Located on Monroe, near the freeway, it is a popular spot, especially for buses. The location is a converted diner. Though it may not be good for groups, the all booth style takes one back to a different era in dining. The menu covers the typical taquería offerings, including tacos, burritos, and nachos. Everything is made-to-order and made from scratch. Prices are incredibly reasonable, especially given the quality and quantity of food served. The owner is one of the nicest ladies I've ever met. She greets everyone and is service-oriented. She'll fuss over you, like you're family. I typically order tacos to take back to my staff. Everything is packaged in a way that all I have to do is take off some foil and it is ready to go! I'm a fan of their carne asada and carnitas. But, the best thing on the menu, in my world, are the beans. They are outstanding; creamy, perfectly seasoned, with a great mouth feel. If they aren't using lard, I'd be shocked. Orders of nachos with meat are enormous and easily shared. Every time I order to go, the owner will bring me a plate of chips with beans, cheese and jalapeños to snack on, while I wait. This is a simple gesture, but it is so sweet and makes me want to come back. Canned and bottled drinks are kept on ice. Because buses do stop here, you may find the location quite full. One thing to note is the parking. The building is shared with a U-Haul location. There are some parking spots in the back, but that is where many of the U-Haul trucks are stored. The lot back there is also full of pot holes. There are a few parking spots on the side of the building, but there are typically trucks parked there. You may have to park on the street, so as to not park in the hotel parking area.

Disgusting food for the price! 10 bucks for some nachos and it was all beans on that puppy! And the carne asada was all fat !

If their bathrooms are dirty imagine what the hidden kitchen looks like. A good rule is if the bathrooms are dirty, consider another restaurant. Comfortable outdoor seating was plentiful. Chips are crisp, fresh, and as a single diner they did not temp me in eating a large portion of corn chips. The fresh salsa is one of the best I have eaten. Just enough heat to make you a bit cautious, yet not enough for regrets. My regular is two crispy beef taco combination. If their beans and rice are marginal, rarely are the plated meals better. The beans were superb. My critique would be I wanted more. Beans were clean, meaning not to heavy with lard, bacon grease or whatever they use as a refrying agent. Rice was crisp, light and flavorful. The Taco's were on the small size, they used the standard street taco sized corn tortilla. But the flavor was great once I added a pinch of salt. Service was quick, staff was congenial. If you're looking for authentic Mexican food, I would definitely put this one on your list. I will be going back to try some of the other fare, but crispy tacos, rice and beans pretty much some up my choice at Mexican restaurants. Mixed crowd with many brothers from down below the border. Their food reminds me of family style meals. The ceviche looked delicious and I will be trying that the next time I visit.

SHORT ANSWER: Just an update, but Casa Mendoza seems to be just getting better. Some new staff but…read morefood quality and people here are very welcoming. LOCATION: In Old Town La Quinta, OTLQ easy to find, tons of parking but at times it gets busy so you may have to walk a bit. FACILITY: very traditional inside and out, clean, and lots of space between tables. MENU: rather massive, we usually order the same things so all the other options makes my head hurt so we just go with what we know. FOOD PREP: excellent, always looks the same which is a good things. FOOD QUALITY: some of the best in the valley. LIBATIONS: lots of choices and not too expensive, wish they had a locals city of LQ discount like some of the other options in OTLQ.. WAITSTAFF: very nice, everyone. OVERALL VALUE: if you order the right things, it is a great value but you can go nuts and spend a lot, tourist dollars spend well, upselling happens for those who want it and deserve it! TIP: Sitting outside is great most all year, we don't go out when it is crazy hot, but have dined outside in 100+ temps, we prefer the front outdoor space.

*Mi Casa es Su Casa*…read more My buddy had a small casual bday get-together with his family and invited me to join the celebration. I saw all the favorable reviews on Yelp and was looking forward to my first visit at Casa Mendoza. Very chill & lively family owned Mexican joint in Old Town LQ. The place was kinda busy @6:30pm on Hump Night ~~ always a great sign when I see this. Felt more like a Sunday Evening. It took an hour to receive our meals. Ordered @6:45 arrived @7:45pm. Good thing the Chimichanga & Gauc apps arrived pretty quickly. The Gauc was Excellente. All their food was very good. But all our meals arrived cold/lukewarm. Took forever to receive our food and we knew for a fact it's because all our plates sat a while until we were served. The actual plates weren't even warm and the sizzling fajitas had sizzled out and lost its dazzle. Because it was still 95 degrees when dinner was finally served, our lukewarm meals were doable on a hot night. Everyone did enjoy their meals tho. I was very pleased with my Mahi Mahi in Garlic Butter Sauce. The refried beans were outstanding. The rice very good...and I made tacos with the 3 corn tortillas. But would have enjoyed it even more had all the food been a little warmer. I stuck with H2O but all margarita drinkers said their drinks were good and hit the spot on a warm night. The service in general was also inconsistent for our small party of 8. The Birthday Boy was a little frustrated and got up a few times from his throne seeking assistance -- such as missing tortillas for meals, water refills, extra napkins. We even had to wait longer than anticipated for them to acknowledge the bday boy with a celebratory bday song & sombrero...and the fried ice cream, which didn't include a candle. Tho we all enjoyed ourselves and time together...a 2 hour dinner at a Mexican joint on a Wednesday night wasn't what we anticipated. Especially with one restless 7 year old ;-) But everyone working at Casa Mendoza is very friendly with great attitudes. Hostess team, waiters, servers & runners too. So that made up for the spotty service, just a little bit. Since I'm closer to the other Casa Mendoza in Palm Desert, I'd go there in the future with my wife, and order the exact same thing. But hope for much better service and warmer food.
