I just got out of the gym and was starving, so I was looking for something high in protein. I've driven by Taco Express countless times since they opened a few months ago, but I had never actually stopped in. I remember when this used to be the old KFC, and from the outside it still looks a little run down, but today I finally decided to give it a shot. I was originally going to order the Thursday special, the Express Burrito, because it was discounted. However, it came with chicken, and I was really craving beef, so I decided to order the Mexican Burrito instead. It comes with asada, rice, refried beans, cilantro, onions, and cheese. The customer service was great. The young lady at the counter was friendly, took my order quickly, and made the whole process easy. Nothing over the top, just good, relaxed service that I appreciate. When I took my first bite, the burrito was absolutely piping hot. I actually had to wait a second before taking another bite, but honestly, that's a good sign because you know it's fresh. The flavor was incredible. The asada was tender, well-seasoned, and had that fresh grilled taste. Every bite was loaded with meat and ingredients, and I even noticed a slight hint of lime that really brought everything together. The cheese was perfectly melted, the onions and cilantro added freshness, and the rice and beans made it filling without overpowering the meat. The burrito itself was a really good size, and I never felt like they skimped on the ingredients. I also tried the salsa that came with it. It was good and paired well with the burrito, but it didn't have as much flavor or heat as I was expecting. I'd personally give the salsa about a 5/10. It wasn't bad by any means--it just could use a little more kick. The burrito, on the other hand, was easily a 9/10. With just a little more flavor in the salsa, this could honestly be a perfect 10. My total came out to about $15.15, which is definitely on the pricier side, but that's about what you'd expect to pay for a quality burrito nowadays, and the portion size made it worth it. Overall, I'm really glad I finally stopped in. Fresh ingredients, a flavorful burrito, solid portions, and friendly customer service made for a great first experience. I'll definitely be coming back to try more of the menu, and if you're driving by wondering whether it's worth stopping in, I'd say give it a shot. I've came on 3 different occasions and tried a variety of different items, just trying to give them the benefit of the doubt. First the way to get to this location is horrible. Having to go through 2 different gas stations or the alley by the car wash, even around through the apartments which I recently discovered. Service however is usually good, when getting my order taken it's a little confusing sometimes with the responses the girls give. I don't know if they're asking or telling me sometimes. Communication could be a little better. Asada street tacos 7/10 Ground beef street taco 5/10 Shredded Chicken Crispy Taco 10/10 Drink small comes in that small maybe 10oz cup, that fits in cup holders just right at the level so hard to get it out. (don't be like me and think you picked it up and only got the lid and it spills everywhere lol.) Asada Fries 6/10 Churro Relleno 5/10 tastes like a frozen and fried one, not fresh. This place reminds me of Adalbertos or whatever that Mexican drive thru they got all over Stockton is called. Food isn't hella good or authentic in my opinion, asada is in big chunks but seasoned well, ground beef was overly seasoned, shredded chicken taco was probably my favorite of the bunch, juicy, reminded me of tinga a little bit just not spicy and no onions. The taco Tuesday special is so good here. The crunchy tacos are cali Mexican fast food style and the crunch is so good! We tried all three- shredded beef, ground beef, and chicken. The chicken is the best by far. Perfectly seasoned/simmered chicken with lettuce and cheese, 10/10. The shredded beef ones are also really good but have half the amount of meat as the chicken. Ground beef was my least fave, the seasoning was off but lots of meat tho. We also got a piña agua Fresca and it was decent. The service was fine but we asked for extra salsa verde at the microphone and again at the window, but they still forgot it. We'll def be coming more often now for the chicken tacos. read more

This place is amazing! It used to be a KFC and taco express took it over. I was wary of another new taco joint but they 100% proved me wrong. Their food is actually extremely yummy (all of it is good, but even simple like just a taco is perfect). Their staff is extremely kind, both in the drive thru and dining area. It's a really simple establishment but don't let it fool you... These guys even went out fo their way to help get a bday cake ready for another kiddos party when we were there. Highly recommended. 9/27/25 - I was surprised that Kentucky Fried Chicken was gone after they cut all the trees and you could finally see it!!!! But what surprised me was the building was leased out or sold in no time!!! It was becoming another restaurant/drive-thru but which one? A couple of days passed and a banner was put up announcing Taco Express-- Yay, because I love tacos!!!! So now I have to wait for this place to open. To my surprise one day, I saw a car in the drive- thru and could not wait for my opportunity to try. So today is the day. I went to my grandsons football game and I brought my lunch, very smart because things are very expensive these days and I don't like everyone handling my food. After the game I had to get some gas and I passed taco Express and said I would stop on my way home. There were five cars ahead of me in the drive- thru and I was wondering if any of these people had tried them before. The line moved fairly quick. I ordered the two tacos special because I wasn't that hungry. The two tacos came with a drink for $9.27. I instantly knew that was too much because I pay $2.90 at my regular taco truck. Then in the description it said free drink and I know it's not free this is America, but the drink was at least $1.25 for a small -(child's cup). I went through the drive-thru so I cannot talk about ambience. I made tacos & 31 enchiladas for Sunday dinner for my family. My tacos are always exciting. The taco I had yesterday was just lettuce & cheese. I don't know if I will give this place a try again. When I spend my money I expect something in return. The prices on the menu board do not reflect what you pay. Came in for a burrito bowl through drive thru and was charged more than what was posted. The burrito bowl was mediocre, the bowl itself was only about 1/4 to almost 1/2" deep so more like a plate, one of my friends said the meat looked like cat food. The asada was dry with no flavor, there was absolutely no rice that was supposed to be includes The lettuce was stale, the beans definitely tasted like canned. Meh. Kinda like a mix between Adalbertos and Taco Bell. The wacky fries options and mexican ramen remind me of Taco Bell trying to attract the younger crowd. My street tacos were decent in flavor, but awful in execution (there was big hunk of unchewable gristle...in a small taco). The crispy taco was fine. The quesabirra was a flavorful mess. This all might be ok for a late night spread after a night of drinking, but meh otherwise. The location isn't good, tucked right against the offramp...which might be why KFC gave up. Getting out isn't easy either. Reminds me a bit of getting into and out of Chik-fil-a. Also, I didn't get two things I was supposed to get...never a good sign. We have been getting 20-25 tacos every Tuesday for the family and usually they are decent. For $1.50 they were fine and did the trick. Tonight we ordered the same as usual and it was terrible. The meat had no flavor. Half the taco shells were broken into pieces and the ones that weren't were soggy. I ended up tossing most of them in the trash. I have actually recommended this place to friends since their Tuesday special made it a decent deal, especially with prices lately going up. Well, my son decided to try out the new Taco Express on Hammer lane where KFC was . Anyway, I got chicken tacos, I opened up the container and saw looks of meat. Thinking ok, this is a good thing. Then I bit into all this meat, I loved the crispy taco shell. The thing I didn't like was how dry all this meat was and not to mention the lack of flavor. There was lettuce inside but something was missing. No sauce, hot or mild, no peppers , no nothing just this nice crispy shell and lots of dry flavorless meat. I drove by each day on way to work and saw construction workers and got excited when it finally opened. I stopped on Friday night as I saw a lot of cars in the drive thru. I ended up ordering the #5 (beef taco, cheese enchilada, rice,beans). My husband ordered a regular asada burrito with no onions. I get home, open it up and it looks just like Adalbertos. I'm hoping it tastes better but it is just that same bland taste and red enchilada sauce. The asada burrito had mostly beans and rice. He got halfway through before he hit meat. Just eh. We usually go to Adalbertos across the street but decided to try Taco Express. We were not impressed. The Quessabirria was good, but overly cheesy. I'm talking more than half inch thick of cheese, but not a lot of birria. Also ordered a chili verde super burrito, a grilled chicken super burrito, and a bag of chips. Both burritos were decent, but not super impressive. Chips were terrible! A bag cost $2 and was no bigger than a sandwich baggie. The chips were stale and had no flavor. I wasn't impressed with their burritos at all. I ordered the King burrito expecting a good balance of ingredients, but it was mostly beans with very little else. The flavor was flat and it just didn't feel worth the price. On the other hand, their tacos are much better. They had a fresher taste, a better balance of fillings, and were much more enjoyable overall. If I come back, it'll definitely be for the tacos, not the burritos. read more

Went through their drive thru and ordered a couple items. Paid for my order and then waited about 5mins for them to hand me one item and send me on my way. I asked about my second food items. Person went to talk to other girl and came back to tell me they handed out the wrong order. They ask for me to hand the food back and asked if I ordered rolled tacos and I said no. Then she went back to talk to the girl that rang me up. They then asked for my receipt. Didn't even apologize for messing up and then told me to park on the side. I saw this restaurant coming off of I-5 on Hammer Lane so my coworker and I decided to try it. They have $1.50 crunchy tacos on Tuesdays and I happen to go in a Tuesday! I ordered 2 Birria street tacos and 2 of the Tuesdays crunchy tacos. You can choose between shredded chicken, shredded beef or ground beef. I chose chicken. They have a mini salsa bar and chips. My coworker and I tried all of the salsas. My favorite was the green tomatillo salsa. The red salsas taste a little more like the little chiles rojos which werent bad but the green sauce had the most flavor in my opinion. My coworker agreed. One of the red sauce was spicier too. Anyway, the Birria tacos were bomb! I would give those 9/10. Very juicy and flavorful. The crunchy tacos were ok. They were juicy. I would give them 7/10. The salsa definitely bumped them to an 8.5/10. My coworker said the only down fall was he could taste the oil in the crunchy tacos. I didnt notice it. We also ordered agua de Jamaica and Piña para la niña. The aguas were very good! Not sweet and nor bitter :) The cashier and the other girl taking the drive thru orders were very nice.
