This place has change owners over the years. It use to be ok for your taco fix. Now it's really yummy. We get tacos and wet burritos. I just tried the shrimp tacos today. I never had shrimp tacos with chopped shrimp and in a sauce. Some of the shrimp pieces were hard like they were fried too hard on the grill. The food is good and seasoned very well. Quick service, they get you in and out. Salsa bar with lots of variety sauces. It's one small issue that I have. We always find bones from the chicken. In the burrito and tacos. Even if you call in and get an answer, they say they'll make it the way you ask, then it arrives lacking with your request! Inexpensive Mexican food in Stockton. One of the first restaurants we ate when we first moved out here because it was closest to our house. Ambience is nice, indoor and outdoor seating. Large lot with plenty of parking. They have a salsa bar which is nice! Seating is spaced out. I like that you can see the cooks cooking. An open kitchen is highly appreciated always. Located in a strip mall off Hammer Lane. Plenty of parking. It's nice inside with a full salsa bar. They have plastic salsa containers to get your own which is nice. The register lady was not welcoming, just kind of took the order. I was handed a drink cup but wasn't told where to get my drink. I didn't know I was supposed to go behind her to pour my own drink or get the bottle out the refrigerator. They called out our order number. It took about 15 minutes which seemed longer than expected. When asked, I said yes to cilantro and onion but taco didn't come with. I had to ask for it after and no fork for the plate I ordered. Typically I don't mind but it's almost like you bother them for asking. Now for the food. Beans taste bitter like from a can. Rice tasted homemade and the chile relleno was good. I enjoyed it with the red orange salsa from the salsa bar. The one was good and spicy. The birria was good. I liked how they give you 2 tortillas on the side with your plate. The potato tacos are a near 5 star experience. The salsita is flavorful and the potatoes are nestled in a crunchy taco! They give you 4! My cousin got the super burrito which she said had an up charge from burritos bought at the truck. The restaurant was a little cold inside so that's where they lose a star. Seems like the prices are more expensive than the trucks they have but it's understandable. However... I dislike paying extra but not getting the extras .. like a warm place to sit. I'm writing this review because I used to come to this location probably five years ago and then I stopped going to it because they kept on getting the orders wrong in the food was slipping in quality, but I like their food so much , I would literally drive to the Manteca location, i've started coming in the last month and I will say the quality and the service is 10 times better ! give them a try , they even have sautéed onions and jalapeños on the side when you go inside next to the salsa bar. They offer a large selection of food from tacos to burritos, menudo, pozole verde, ( offered EVERY DAY ) and even birria tacos and the most trending dish at the moment, "quesa-birria" tacos". I loved this place for the longest. We used to come here every time we wanted good tacos. Once a week for sure. Over the past 2 months somethings have changed. The food doesn't taste the same, the tortillas are different, the meat is dryer, the salsa bar is always empty or dirty and the customer service has been a hit or miss. And the wait time on the phone has been very long, sometimes they even hang up. We really like this spot and I would hate to look for another tacos spot, but I don't consider myself a loyal customer lately. I will continue to try them to see if I like them again. read more

Hands down one of the best locations to get tacos in town!!! I've tried many tacos in Stockton but nothing beats tacos chapala in my opinion. What's even best is they offer a small condiments bar for your order for FREE!!! Of course tipping is optional but definitely worth tipping for the free sides you get. Sides include cucumber, onions, jalapeños, salsa and much more. I'm a regular customer, but will soon be moving to sacramento and will be missing these tacos so much. Whenever I am in Stockton and I'm craving tacos, this is my go-to. I love their carne asada quesotacos and then dipping them in consomé. The broth of their consomé with a squeeze of lime is chef's kiss. Where I live now, most taco places are stingey with their condiments and sauces especially since they sell their own sauce in a big bottle. The meat was almost the size of a nickel I am very dry. The chicken on our tacos and torta was so dry. We thought it was chicken Chicharron. [Carne asada super burrito $9]: The meat was good, the rice was overcooked and a little mushy, the sour cream and cheese was also good.
