I ordered a variety of corn shell tacos for breakfast. All were double wrapped with good quality white corn tortilla shells, not too thin, not too thick, well heated and cared for so they weren't breaking and held their ingredients well.
The tacos are well-wrapped in paper lined aluminum. Most had stickers identifying the ingredients. The labeling was perfect for group orders or buying tacos for now and later. Salsas were in separate containers. Since none of the tacos were overly greasy, the food held up well in the bag and could have been kept for later.
My favorite was a Mexican-style potato (a la mexicana) taco that was filled with tender chunks of lightly fried potatoes, marinated vegetables (escabeche), and avocado. The flavor combination was perfect - with or without salsa.
Chacks indicates that their guisado taco (stewed beef) is their best seller, and I can see why. This taco was chockful of subtly flavored stewed beef. The beef was perfect, not stringy or chewy, not too fatty, but still juicy. The flavor stands up on its own, and I also enjoyed with with their hot salsa.
I appreciate the omelet-style of their egg tacos. Instead of cooking the ingredients separately and throwing them in the shell (messy!), they roll the ingredients into eggs and cook them. This makes for easy eating on the go. I had egg tacos with machacado (dried beef) and potato. Both were great, though like many egg dishes invited the use of salsa.
I held myself to two salsas in this order, the medium green, and hot red. The medium green carried fresh, cooling flavor, great to round out any heavier flavors or cool down heat. It was slightly thick, not watery, not pasty. The hot red was thinner and carried a richer, smokier flavor. It's not hot when eating, but delivers a nice warmth after, still it's not that spicy, so if you love a fiery tongue, ask for something spicier.
Highly recommended for speed, quality, and flavor - I look forward to trying more tacos from Chacks. read more
