I love Abuelo's. They have solid Tex Mex, a stylish interior, and super friendly and fast service…read more I especially like that they'll provide lettuce wraps instead of tortillas for the fajitas (I know, that's illegal in Texas but I'm "one of those"). Overall, love the place.

They use big plates for all their food. Started with a hibiscus margarita. It was flavorful and served a little martini glass with a sugar rim. Only had one because of the price of it. Ordered a dip that had a spicy qurso, regular queso, and a bowl of salsa in it. The spicy queso wasn't very spicy and the normal queso didnt have a lot of flavor. I preferred there spicy salsa more than their normal salsa. So wasn't totally impressed with that trio I started out with. I got a fish that had a little bit of everything. Chicken, beef, and cheese enchilada. A taco, a beef tamale, and a cheese filled and fried pablano. Had queso as thw sauce i wanted served on top of it. Wasn't able to eat half of it which was my plan. I wanted to take food home for later. The cheese filled pablano was alright. The breading on it was kinda greasy. Taco was full and the meat had good flavor. The chicken enchilada was my favorite. Moist chicken and very filled enchilada. The cheese one I could have done without and the beef enchilada was good but had lots of grease coming out of it. Overall it was just a mediocre visit. Wish I hadn't had to put my dish in my lap in order to eat it. Would have give 3 stars if they would have given us a better table to sit at.

Service was great and attentive, although there were only two other tables there on a Friday night…read moreat 7:15pm. Salsa was good. Chips were warm. Charro beans served with chips and salsa. Was really good, but lukewarm. I got the beef fajita quesadillas and husband got beef nachos. Both were $15.50. He liked his nachos, but nothing special. My quesadillas were good, but kinda small for the price. They weren't greasy and the beef was tender. Had a frozen margarita, and it was good, I drank two. Not the best, but definitely not the worse. Atmosphere was nice, located in a great area. Also, we walked, so I can't comment on the parking, but did notice a sign that they validate tickets. I'd go again if I was close by. 4/5.

I thought it strange that we were not aware of this place so I was a bit skeptical when my nephew…read morewanted to try it, but it's apparently been around for years, so we gave it a try. Honestly, after our visit, I can't imagine how they've lasted this long. Ambiance is fine, parking is tough (and not cheap). I ordered the Smokey Chipotle Margarita to start and it was a disappointment. Not Smokey. Not spicy. Not strong. Pretty disappointing. My nephew started with the Mango Margarita (after being told they couldn't do a swirl even though it was on the menu) and he was not thrilled either. We all ordered different entrees and the portions were overall smaller than our usual go-to Mexican restaurant, but still enough to fill you up on top of the chips & salsa (which were the best things we got). I ordered chicken enchiladas with sour cream sauce - right sauce, but beef inside. Not a great combination. Hubby said his food was 'meh' when asked for his opinion, so I think we all agreed that this will be our only trip to La Familia.
