Juanita's does a taco night on the first Friday of every month. We decided to check it out tonight…read more... and we weren't disappointed! The shop itself is very unassuming - a diamond in the rough. Juanita (or who I assume is Juanita? Should have asked! ... ) was very friendly. She made us feel very welcome and ensured we had everything we needed. We tried the taco mix, pork and chicken tacos. The tortillas were rustic. They come with an array of sides (& plenty of them!) including a pineapple/cucumber salsa, a cabbage slaw, some diced onions, coriander, tomatillo with avocado and chipotle sauce. There was also a couple of Juanita's home made sauces on the table to use. We enjoyed it all! Although quite full we couldn't resist trying the salted caramel Cheezecake. It was really delicious, thick and rich but well balanced with the addition of yoghurt, honey, bitter chocolate and praline served with it. This is a vegan option FYI! BTW - Juanita's sells delicious sauces and spices to take away ... we just had to grab one. We'll definitely head back.

The chicken mole was the best I've had in Oz, as were the corn tortillas - the latter had real flavor and must have been prepared by someone who has eaten real ones for many years in Mexico. Don't be put off by the street scene outside. The place itself was cozy and service friendly.

I popped in for dinner on a Monday, and took advantage of the Monday to Wednesday Half Price Entrees and Mains deal. This was great as when I got what I ordered, it was enough for two, and only cost about $10. My meal was fantastic. After a shared entrée of the Carlos Potachos, which was basically nachos with potato wedges instead of corn chips, I ordered the Fajita Vegetales, and was given a piping hot pan of fresh vegetables cooked in a ranch sauce. Another plate held lettuce, guacamole and rice, and yet another had 4 fajita wraps, plus cheese sour cream and salsa. I proceeded to make my own wraps, and somehow managed to devour the entire thing. Like a Taco Bill, the prices are quite high for what you get. Although the meals are really large, I'm always surprised at how much it costs for a burrito at ANY Mexican restaurant. With the fare quite simple in its preparation and ingredients, I'm one who often make sit at home and avoids paying $20 for a meal that cost under $5 to cook. That said, take advantage of the half price nights, and you're sure to enjoy having someone else cook for you.

I have been going to this place for many years - both in its current location and the previous one in Dandenong. It may have the odd off night but it's usually great!. We usually go through the week because a Friday or Saturday night are crazy busy. Meals are well prepared and generous in quantity, alcohol and food prices are both decent - you just need to ask if you want spicy is all. Best Mexican on this side of town for sure.

I was a little disappointed. I'm not sure if its because i've gotten older and my expectations have increased or if it has gone downhill. I think its a little of both. This place has the usual tacos, fajitas, enchiladas, nachos and burritos. It is definitely more of a family restaurant than a dining experience. I ordered the quesadilla without cheese or sour cream (as i'm vegan). The meal was fairly bland and seemed very soggy. I'm not sure if it was microwaved or not. Considering i had no cheese or sour cream, i would have thought i'd have gotten a good serving of guacamole, but i barely got any. Considering i was charged the same price i thought i should have got some extra guac. The margaritas were stock standard mexican frozen margaritas. Again these were pretty disappointing and not sure that there was any tequila in them. However that said, they were very cheap $5.50. Overall, this place is probably more suited to families on a budget who want to go out for a meal. The food wasn't terrible, but definitely not worth the $19 i paid for my quesadilla. Think i'll

Pj's is located off to the left of Maroondah Highway before you hit Eastlink and there is some parking out the front of the restaurant. With both indoor and outdoor seating available, Pj's was packed Saturday night but we managed to snag a table at the back. The servers seemed a little flustered as there were quite a few larger parties ordering and we were repeatedly asked if we would like to order when we already had but hey I'd rather be asked than left there hungry. A complimentary teeny tiny bowl of corn chips kicked off our night and we ordered a strawberry milkshake and a glass of sangria to quench our thirst during the wait for food. Fish taco- squeeze the lemon onto the crispy fish and we have a winner. Beef taco-best taco out of the 3 as it was juicy and the beef was very tender. Chicken taco- a bit dry but I drenched it with chilli sauce yum! Combination special enchilada -Spinach and potato mixed Ice cream nacho - dusted with cinnamon sugar, the vanilla ice-cream was drizzled with honey and matched with a side of tia maria. This wasn't quite what I expected, it was more bland as I imagined that the "nachos" would be more like cinnamon toast crunch pieces. We did finish the whole thing but it got a bit too sweet towards the end. I'm glad we made an emergency food stop and stopped here as I enjoyed it. I like how you can choose a soft tortilla or hard taco shell and although not exactly like the street tacos in Mexico, this was much better than some of the taco's i've had in Australia that are drenched in sour cream and overdone.
