The shop itself is very unassuming - a diamond in the rough. Juanita (or who I assume is Juanita? Should have asked! ... ) was very friendly. She made us feel very welcome and ensured we had everything we needed. We tried the taco mix, pork and chicken tacos. The tortillas were rustic. They come with an array of sides (& plenty of them!) including a pineapple/cucumber salsa, a cabbage slaw, some diced onions, coriander, tomatillo with avocado and chipotle sauce. There was also a couple of Juanita's home made sauces on the table to use. We enjoyed it all! Although quite full we couldn't resist trying the salted caramel Cheezecake. It was really delicious, thick and rich but well balanced with the addition of yoghurt, honey, bitter chocolate and praline served with it. This is a vegan option FYI! Combination special enchilada -Spinach and potato mixed Ice cream nacho - dusted with cinnamon sugar, the vanilla ice-cream was drizzled with honey and matched with a side of tia maria. This wasn't quite what I expected, it was more bland as I imagined that the "nachos" would be more like cinnamon toast crunch pieces. We did finish the whole thing but it got a bit too sweet towards the end. I'm glad we made an emergency food stop and stopped here as I enjoyed it. Carnitas taco is amazing. Properly-seasoned pulled pork is balanced and awakened by the crisp, refreshing and juicy tomato, pineapple and tiny bit of red onion (pineapple salsa). What a Fiesta in my mouth! Seriously delicious. Carne taco is OK. The steak is good but missing some flavor. Maybe the entire taco is just... bland isn't the proper word, but it did come to mind. You can skip it. The fish taco is nice but ask for them to go easy on the chipotle mayo. It comes with a bit more than it should. Still, it is a nice amount of rockling with just the right amount of frying; crisp exterior with a warm, flaky, moist filet inside. The mojito needs a stirring when it arrives but is a nice bit of mint, lime and sweetness to complement the food and/or cool if you off on a hot Melbourne late Arco, early evening. They got the flavours just right, and in the right amount. The service is friendly and coronas and other beers are cheap ($4). Also, they are open later than 10pm which I really appreciate.
