I was delighted to see that they'd added chile rellenos to their menu. I ordered a plate to go, and was very happy with it. A few weeks later I went to lunch there with a couple of friends, on a Sunday after church. I again got the chile relleno plate, and enjoyed it very much. I did notice thon that one of my friends took one sip of the Horchata, and then left it sit. She did not eat much of her entree, either. Then I stopped again, on a Sunday after church, asking again for a chile relleno plate to go. This was an entirely different experience! I was a bit surprised when my meal came out in TWO large take out containers, but I didn't think to check. When I got home, I found a real Frankenstein of a chile rellano. It was this HUGE blob of very greasy batter, surrounding a pepper that had slid apart in cooking. It was a pretty tasteless, grease laden mess. I tried to contact the restaurant through social media but did not hear anything back. As you may imagine, I have not returned.

I think it may be that the standards are alittle bit lower in these parts, but everything just tasted bland. I ordered table side guac, which is like $12 and some change, but it wasn't made table-side... it also tasted bland and the avocados tasted like they were in a fridge that was too cold. I make guac very often that I know when an avocado might be alittle too cold... it had that grainy texture and taste. I also ordered the steak fajitas... the steak was not really even steak, but probably more what I would describe as overly done sliced or shredded beef strips. I've had better steak at Chipotle. It was also bland. There was no flavor at all. The only flavors you got were from adding the beans and sour cream to your fajita. It was also really tough. I was pretty disappointed, because for some reason, I pictured a sizzling platter arriving at my table, and guac made at the table as well. I then ordered flan for dessert. It was also pretty disappointing. The flan it self might have been okay, but they drizzled chocolate on top of the flan, which really masked the flavor of the flan and made me wonder what were they trying to achieve by adding the chocolate. The caramel syrup is already sweet... You can also tell whoever makes the flan does not know how to make flan. Flan should be smooth and silky. It can be light or also more rich and velvety. This one had so many air bubbles that it gave me such a feeling of concern with every bite. Either the water from the water bath used in the oven spilled over or the temperature was too high that it caused the flan to boil. And then the final straw was the electronic fee... I'm not from around here but is this normal? It makes me wonder if this is something they should disclose or tack on to their food prices... Yeah I just did not feel it with this restaurant... Probably won't be back... It doesn't mean the food isnt good, but it's just my opinion and I've been to several restaurants...

Turned out sour lady was also the server. Very unwelcoming The food was so bad I sent it back. The "smothered" pulled pork (the menu's description) had a squirt of sauce and was not hot - not warm even. As my husband was eating I just cancelled. The robotic manager said he wouldn't charge me !! ... seriously I didn't even bite into the sandwich. I joked he could reuse the bun. He offered a dessert. I'm not going to eat a dessert for dinner. The Watering Hole's fare is far from the best I've eaten -- but sometimes a basic burrito and a glass beer are exactly what one needs to fill their belly. I ordered the "Big Burrito" and my wife ordered the "Bean Burrito." Because they have no beer on tap we ordered bottles of Negra Modelo to drink. Both of our burritos were amply stuffed with meat or beans, cheese, lettuce and tomato, and served with refried beans and Mexican rice. Two ounce cups of salsa and sour cream were served on the side, and additional sauces (hot and mild) were on the table. Our burritos reminded me of the ones I make at home when I'm scrounging around the fridge to use up left over meat, refried beans, cheese and veggies. Even though the ingredients were casually tossed together and rolled up in a tortilla, and though it was not particularly attractive on the plate, the taste was fine, the quantity was ample, and our hunger was sated. I doubt that I'll come back specifically for the food -- but the location is convenient (right on US 51), the bartender/server was friendly, the kitchen was efficient, the price point was acceptable, and the food was satisfactory, so when it fits my needs, I'll come back.

We shared the the fish taco dish and the jarocho. They were both delicious AND GLUTEN FREE! There was a greater variety of foods available than I've seen at other Mexican restaurants. The atmosphere put you in the right frame if mind to be eating Mexican food, including showing a line of Jarritos soda bottles and the various flavors. Adding to the ambiance were the multiple TVs showing a futbol match. The service was good, but a little slow. In their defense, the place was busy, so, to be honest, the service was good.

The eggs were fluffy and thick not thin like a crepe. And they did not skimp on the ingredients. My husband had the garbage and I had the Mexican omelet. The restaurant looked clean and the waitress was attentive and friendly. We were greeted immediately upon entering the restaurant. If you are looking for an omelet done the right way and are in Eagle River this is the place to go!
