The food here at Taco Bar is undeniably good, but my last recent visit turned into a bit of a negotiation over a simple topping. I ordered the 6-taco combo (the #3 on the menu) and, based on what I saw on their website at the time, I expected to pay about $0.50 per taco for sour cream. When I arrived to pick up my order, the owner and I went back and forth. She insisted the price was actually $1.50 per taco. Since I had six tacos, she hit me with an extra $9.00 just for the cream! When I showed her the website price, she didn't blink. Her attitude was basically, "It's my website and it's wrong, so the price is what I say it is. Do you want your food or not?" She even offered to refund me if I didn't like the new price, which felt less like customer service and more like a challenge. Don't get me wrong--the tacos are delicious. But for a repeat customer, that "my house, my rules" vibe was horrible. I supported this business for a while because I loved the food but after having a stand off over sour cream, I'm sure I will not be back. I've never been to a taco spot set up like this before. You walk in, simple menu on the left, then you order through a little doorway window up front. The two girls working there were really friendly right away which honestly set the tone. I had to try the tuna taco since I've never seen that before, and also grabbed a shredded chicken taco. The daughter of the owner told me both shells lean crispy so I asked for one crisp and one softer. Perfect call. The shredded chicken taco was the standout. Super juicy, tender, and marinated in something slightly sweet I couldn't figure out but it works. Lettuce, tomato and cheese balance it out and the shell had a great crunch without falling apart. The tuna taco surprised me too. Almost reminded me of a warm tuna melt style filling, not heavy, just flavorful. The shell was lighter and less crispy exactly how I asked. They gave me a hot sauce on the side that's really good, kind of a mild vinegar/tobasco kick. The daughter came out to see how everything was and I said it was fantastic. I asked her what the hot sauce was and she says that her mom gets it at a secret place in the valley somewhere. I've driven past here a bunch of times and finally stopped in today. Really 3.5 stars but I'll be generous and bump it up to four stars because of the sweet ladies working there. I only ordered one ground beef taco to try them out, as I was was checking out two other taco places after them. The one taco was $3.50. Certainly the better deal is two tacos, chips or fries and a drink for $7.00. I really didn't like the texture (mush) of the meat. The crispyness of the tortilla was great as well as the condiments. The place reminds of the time I was in Chicago and my friend picked me up to get take out from a legendary rib joint in a really bad section of the city called Cabrini-Green. It was like walking into a bank with everyone working there behind bulletproof glass. The Taco Bar is similar except it's like walking into a long closet with two bulletproof glass openings...one for ordering and the other for picking up. They are just starting so I understand things being a little unorganized but 15 mins after you took my order you realize you still hadn't made it and two people who came after me got there order is unacceptable. I seen a review on this place on TikTok, as a local of this area I thought I'd give it a try, I finally found the time to stop by and give it a try. I got the number 2 which came with 4 tacos with either a side of fries and or chips along with your choice of drink to add sour cream was $1.50 PER TACO which is highway robbery if you ask me! This place definitely needs a lot of work, my fries were soggy, barely could taste the seasoning on the fries, my taco shells were falling apart at the bottom because of how SOGGY my shells were. Whatever the sauce is on the tacos is more overpowering than the actual tacos itself, very skimpy on the ingredients i.e meat, cheese, lettuce, and tomato, the ground turkey tacos need improvement as far as taste, I've had better homemade turkey tacos.
