Food and service are on point. The cook that took our order even made my 3 year old daughter a cheese taco while we waited for our order to be made. The food was a bit too rich for my personal taste, as if that's a bad thing too much of a good thing is my only complaint. Let me first start by saying, "Where have I been? Under a rock!" @tacoaina is located right off the Keaʻau-Pāhoa Hwy, not too far past Makuʻu Market if you're going toward Pāhoa Town. To say I was taken by surprise is an understatement. There were three different tacos on the menu today, and we got two of each. The three tacos were asada, lengua, and chicken mole. Lengua (Beef Tongue): The meat was melt-in-your-mouth tender and perfectly seasoned--the perfect savory element/protein to assume the "main character" role. The meat was doused in a bright and zesty salsa verde and topped with cilantro and onions. Every ingredient had a role, and every single one of them gave Oscar-winning performances. This was by far my favorite taco out of the three available today. Bravissimo! Chicken Mole: The chicken was moist, succulent, and bathed in a deep, earthy, nutty, velvety, and aromatic mole that genuinely took my breath away. The notes of tomato and garlic from the rice were like a warm hug, and the pickled onions cut through the richness and nuttiness of the mole in the most complimentary way. Exquisite! Asada (Beef): The asada tacos were my least favorite, but only because of the texture. The meat had a bit of a chew, and I prefer mine to be more tender, but that's it. Flavor-wise, these were a 10/10! As an honorable mention, I must bring up the salsas, sauces, sides, and the two char-grilled jalapenos that came with our tacos. Every single salsa, sauce, and side was exceptionally delicious. And the charred jalapenos were a nice touch. I'm so happy that I finally made it, and I'm now a HUGE FAN! Stopped by Taco Aina last Friday Jan 24 for delicious, authentic, tacos. I ordered the pork al castor taco and the baja fish taco. The pork taco was mind-blowing with the succulent marinated pork, and the delicious green sauce. The fish taco was golden brown, seared, tender, flaky mahi mahi expertly prepared with a flavorful white sauce. The taco plate was accompanied by tasty homemade brown beans and a pickled fruit relish. Yum yum! As the sign on the Taco Aina advises, "This isn't fast food, it is fresh food made as fast as possible." The business owner, Kiki, is as friendly as can be. It is obvious that she is passionate about her tacos. Tacos are pretty good, but it's very slow. Last time we waited for nearly an hour (55 minutes) to the point that when I approached to see what was going on they tried to take my order. This place is ridiculous. Delicious, fresh, and way more than authentic. I tried a carne asada, carnita, mahi, and shrimp taco. Carne asada was moist, well seasoned and tender. Great char on it and great taste. This was my favorite.. Carnitas was made from buche (pig stomach) and was DELICIOUS. Moist, clean tasting and addictive. Fish and shrimp tacos were good. Nice crisp fry on the fish, moist and flaky and HUGE. The cabbage slaw was refreshing and the acid from the lime and pico de gallo was needed to cut thru the richness of the batter. Same w/ the shrimp taco. Delicious. Kiki also gave me a side of pickled onions, jicama, pepino (cukes). The pickled onions were delicious. Allspice, bay leaf, and clove were distinct flavors coming thru and on point. Her knowledge of flavors are unmatched. By far this is THE best food truck for Mexican food on the island. My husband and I stopped by the Taco Aina food truck today mainly because we were craving tacos but also because it was parked on Paradise Rd around the corner from our house. We had zero expectations before ordering and after finishing our meal, I just had to come here to write a review. Holy smokes this place is really good. In my opinion, this is a wonderfully refreshing take on the humble taco truck. Our order: 2 carne asada tacos, 2 carnitas tacos and 2 orders of chicken taquitos (4 all day) ($20/total). They also gave us a starter of a whole charred jalapeno and refried smoky beans topped with crema and soft cheese. We practically inhaled that while we waited hence no take a pic, we were really hungry and it was really good. The order also came with a gorgeous side of garnishes (soft cheese, papaya, jicama, daikon, pickled onion/cucumbers, orange-pico and lime slices) which was a really unique touch and everything tasted very bright and fresh with a legit amount of flavor and spice. The tacos and taquitos are on handmade tortillas with well-seasoned meat and sauce. We enjoyed everything with the fresh garnishes and I'm not sure what that soft fresh cheese deliciousness was but it was so ono, think if queso fresco and ricotta had a baby. Best meal I've eaten on this side of the island EVER. From the first bite, it was heavenly. Beef was so tender, it literally made me happy to be a carnivore. Homegirl can COOK! Every single bite (I had carne asada and beef burria tacos) was perfect. No need to add salsa because she already adds just the right condiments/cheese etc. to each of her creations. Just eat what she gives you and you'll die happy. Be prepared to wait about 10-15 minutes, because she does it all by herself. Including making perfect homemade corn tortillas. It's worth it though. Saw the food truck at hpp today and figured I'd give it a try. I had the birria for the first time, very tasty! The pickled onions were delish! The tacos had lots of beef and flavor. The most authentic real tasting Mexican food on this side and probably the whole island. I am a taco head but they also have so much more than just 5 different types of taco fillings. I have driven past this little taco stand parked at the top of Paradise many times on the way home. I decided to stop last Friday and sample her taco's. She had rolled chicken and steak (Carne) left from her, obviously, busy day. I got one order of each. They came with beans and rice and an assortment of pickled veg. My husband and I ate them on the way home and we were blown away. This little taco truck lady out in the middle of nowhere is serious about her food folks! So ono!!!!!!!!!! The tortillas are fresh, the steak was tender, juicy and flavorful. We fought over the rolled taco - best I have ever have! AND....the beans that came with the meal - Seriously the best refried beans I have ever, ever tasted in my life. I will eat a bowl of these any time any day. When we got home, my husband demanded I go get more and I hopped back into the truck, money in hand and gladly drove back and a snack turned into dinner. Lets keep Taco Aina going people.
