We have been to the original Luquins over 8 years ago - which sadly burned down we were told. We were told they had two now so we picked the one we were closest to. Our server was very nice and the restaurant is very roomy with a sports bar and place to enjoy the games of the day. The chips and salsa were as I remembered- homemade and crunchy chips and fresh tasty salsa!! The carnitas flautas was well seasoned and crispy as it should be - win win! Which of course - you got it - meant the carnitas burrito was delicious and my husband loves their red sauce! The steak flautas is what brought this down to a 4. The steak was a little bland and kind of chewy. The onions were not cooked enough in my opinion but if you like raw onion then you will be fine. The beans were delicious and how we remembered them! The onions in both the flautas were too raw and we don't recall onions in the description when looking at the menu. If it's there, we apologize - but they do need to be cooked more for those of us that like cooked onions not raw. All in all so happy they are still in business and we got to enjoy some of our favorite items!! Def give them a try!!

Great service from Anna! She quickly rectified a mix up in burritos. She checked on us regularly and was very pleasant. Also recommended ginger beer, was very good! Food was great, we will be back.

We went in at 3pm. All persons in the party need to be there to be seated. It was a full house throughout our time, with steady flow of people coming in to dine. The music that was playing over speakers was at a nice volume. Perfect enough to have conversations. Thankful for complementary chips and salsa and additional order of chips with guac. Our food took a little longer than usual. It was okay, we did not mind as we had drinks to hold us until our food came. There were a lot of people at that time, so a little wait was expected. Food was very similar to Pahoa location. Kudos for consistency. The refried beans are the best! We enjoyed our meals with nothing to take home. Finished off with a flan that was so decadent, it was a perfect way to end our meal. I enjoyed our meal and will be back again!

Hands down, the quesabirria tacos and flautas are as good as they come--absolutely amazing. We happened upon this place on Yelp, and I was a little skeptical, but after the first bite, I felt transported back to Mexico. My entire family agreed that these are the best quesabirria tacos we have had outside of Mexico, and possibly even in Mexico. The flavors were amazing, and the consommé was absolutely delicious. We are regulars on the Big Island and normally do not eat Mexican food because we have never found a good spot, with the exception of Shaka Tacos. This place was really busy, and there was only one person working. She was doing it all--taking orders, collecting money, and making all the delicious food. She was never rude and was so pleasant. She said the cooks had called in and she was the only one there. Talk about dedication! She made sure everyone got their food, and it was made perfectly. I cannot commend her enough for all the work she did and for putting out an outstanding order of food. She is a real gem and should be treated as such! It is so hard to find good employees today, and her dedication and attitude inspired me. I wish we had gotten her name, but she said she is always there. If the food takes longer than you like, just be patient, because you are in for a treat when it comes out. Good food takes time, and the food is definitely worth the wait. We will definitely be coming back every time we are here. This place is a real gem. If I could give it more stars, I would. I hope everyone reading this takes my advice and goes to this wonderful place for the delicious food and the warm people.

We ordered the risotto, fresh catch (marlin), crispy rice, gnocchi, and finished off with the mac nut ganache mascarpone pots de crème. We did share a Lemon peel lemonade cocktail. The Lemon peel lemonade was basically spiked lemonade. Well balanced for being a tart oriented drink, but I didn't care for the floating bits. The risotto which comes in full and half order, was very rich and had chunks of mushrooms for flavor. We're glad we got the half as this was a heavy, rich, and cheesy entrée on its own. If you love risotto, you will love this dish. The marlin was perfectly cooked and balanced out with a locally inspired vegetable succotash. Fried bits of kalo were also added in for added texture. The special and new item, the gnocchi was the star of the show. This is by far the fluffiest gnocchi we've ever had. Crispy on the outside, little potato clouds of fluff on the inside. The gnocchi came over a tasty sauce with bits of fried onion for absolute perfection. The crisp rice was recommended by Yelpers and it was alright, crispy rice with a spoon of poke. Not bad, but did not live up to the hype. Get another order of the gnocchi instead. It's fairly rare to see pots de crème on restaurant menus, specials or not, so we had to get this. It came in a cute little glass jar, with rich chocolate and mascarpone flavor with a hint of mac nut. This desert was an absolutely delicious perfect end to the meal. You can make reservations online, street parking is quite limited, and it can get busy as the night goes on, so recommended to get an earlier dinning time. Staffs regularly checked in on us and were polite and efficient.
