First time I went there. The Sohan Assali is terrible. Very disappointed since we wanted it for Norouz.

Really some of the most awesome delectable treats one can find on this side of the river. I'm particularly impressed with the chickpea sweets; they are delicate and crumbly. The others are good too. They provide also some imported raisins; sometimes these are too stiff; perhaps they don't circulate well. The sour cherry jam is awesome but so sweet. read more

This place makes the best cookies and pastries. Their walnut and almond macaroons and cream puffs are absolutely out of this world. Delicate, balanced and you can taste the quality. The owner is the baker and he makes just enough to always have fresh product at the store. It's not cheap but I am sure he must use top notch ingredients to creat such art. Every time I take his cookies and etc. some where as a gift everyone loves it and many have become patrons. Great choice if you want to take a unique gift to a party. Wish I had known about this bakery sooner. Stopped by on a Saturday and saw the barbari bread cooling that they make only on Saturdays, so had to buy one. It was delectable. Couldn't stop eating it! Five stars all the way! Was my first time here. This is a small, family owned Persian grocery and bakery. Came by here with my girlfriends to pick up some dessert for Persian New Year. Mohammed and his wife were so helpful. I called ahead of time to order. They were so accommodating and they recommended an assortment of cookies and other desserts. Ended up selecting the large chocolate covered cream puffs (Best cream puffs I've ever had!) and Persian baklava. Everything was delicious and we'll definitely be back! read more

The cream puffs are terrific, both the plain (whipped cream, with powdered sugar on top) and the chocolate (still whipped cream, but chocolate glaze on top.) Some of the canonical Persian pastries, especially the chickpea cookies, are not to my midwestern taste. But the cream puffs? fantastic. HOWEVER: owners, please clean up your shop. The glass cases look smeary, the floor is dirty, the front door and window both need a good scrub. It's not inviting and makes me want to just leave quickly after getting my cream puffs. Which is too bad because apparently you have some great breads! read more

Eh, I guess I wasn't as thrilled as many people were. The sweets I sampled were OK but nothing I'd dream about returning for. The baklava had way too much orange blossom water flavor, which I've never tasted in baklava before. It didn't improve it. My favorite out of what I sampled was definitely the chickpea cookie. We stood there for a few minutes before anyone came out from the back. Even if someone had called out "I'll be right with you" I would have felt better about it. Seriously, I don't know why Agha Tabrizi hasn't ever started up some kind of Persian Dunkin Donuts empire, but his pastries are outstanding. The bamiyeh are so crispy on the outside and burst with wonderful honey-rosewater flavor when you bite in. The Gerdoui and Badami are wonderfully chewy and nutty The nazook are to die for. Every bite transports me back to my childhood in Iran. My Asian wife is an even bigger lover of it than me. In short, Agha Tabrizi has enthralled this family. read more

As soon as I walk in, the Latino lady that works there asks me, "Chickpea cookies?" And a bit embarrassed, I put my head down and nod because I'm addicted to those little innocent-looking cookies and yes, that is what I want. This place smells incredible. Very tiny, but everything is "khaley khoshmazeh" (very delicious). I've tried them all! The fried rose water spider-web looking things are good. The almond and walnut cookies are DELICIOUS! I had to quit cold turkey because it really was becoming an unhealthy obsession. :) Now I make my own walnut cookies. Honestly, if you go, try the chickpea cookies (nan-e-goordei) or something like that. They are so different from anything I've ever had. And for some reason, you just can't stop eating them. What might you find in a Persian bakery? First and foremost: pastries. This consists of French pastries (roulettes, napoleons) popular in Iran and traditional Persian pastries (like zoolbia, which is a fried dough drenched in honey). Tabrizi also carries cookies and bread. In addition to baked goods, you can get a decent selection of Persian dry goods and syrups. Sour cherry syrup, pomegranate molasses, rose water, teas, some spices, packaged candies, etc. This is a small bakery, but the food is good. I recommend you give the pastries a shot. read more

I love, love, LOVE this bakery! The owners are SO friendly and the sweets are soooo good!! There are gluten-free and nut-free options too which is a huge surprise considering how hard it is to find either of these things in traditional recipes. Mohamed and his family run the shop and they're always happy and ready to help if you've never had Persian sweets before (like me). Tabrizi is taking care of all persian sweets and cookies for our wedding. Of course we had to try everything before ordering 17lbs of it for our sofreh. In addition to all the sweets (my favorites being zolbi and bami) they also sell sweet cream napoleons (my absolute favorite- so light and airy). The store is pretty small- I was expecting more of a pastry shop plus grocery store, but the grocery side is very limited. After frequenting some other middle eastern shops in the area, everyone has recommend Tabrizi. read more

This place is what I miss most about no longer regularly going to the Watertown Square area. The prices are super cheap for how much time and effort it takes to craft many of the pastries/etc by hand and they have a wide assortment of cooking/eating related things crammed into their tiny space. It rotates out (which I appreciate as that way I know they're fresh) but frequent items include rose water, tins of nuts, Turkish delight, large bags of saffron, teas, and canned/bottled foods, and they even generally have a rack of imported postcards and greeting cards. Plus the baklava tastes much more like the baklava I had when I lived in Greece - subtle and delicate - rather than the way baklava in Americanized Greek restaurants/bakeries usually tastes (where they seem to always make it overpoweringly sweet to please Americans' sweets-obsessed palates). read more

Give Tabrizi a shot, this place will surprise you. As a Watertown resident, I have driven by this place a million times and walked by often on the way to Super Fusion for sushi and the Meat Spot for my fav parma sub. Anywho, I finally decided to stop into this bakery. It is a cute little place with baked goods and a small grocery section. I have a particular weakness to Macaroons and this place makes a killer Walnut and Almond version. I have tried a bunch of items with mixed results, not every item is always fresh, so you may want to stick to the popular items. I would give this place 5 stars for the Macaroons, -2 stars for the lack of freshness on certain items, and +1 star for the fair prices. read more
