On rainy or cooler days, I could see seating being issue during peak hours. Parking is also very limited. We walked up, the cashier was nice. She warned us that they were out of a few things as we came later the day. The menu is extremely limited - three items on the menu for actual lunch. We ordered a Loxsmith - sub cream cheese for avocado (crazy I know!) & a Chicken sandwich. We also got two hot jasmine green teas. There was an auto gratuity / service fee that applied. Our total came out to about $50. The food took a little longer than I'd think it would but the food was absolutely delicious. I wasn't too thrilled with the amount of dressing that drenched my salad but the dressing itself was good. I'd opt for it to be on the side next time. 3pm daily great place to work from if get here early! it's very charming inside & in a charming neighborhood. all top quality wheat & ingredients, milled in house, healthy but a tad pricey. for example my chicken sando was $17. then again, quality is very high! I've been wanting to try Tabor Bread ever since Maurizio from The Perfect Loaf posted it on his Instagram story. Tabor Bread bakes 100% whole grain sourdough goods, and boy are they amazing. My husband and I arrived around 1pm, about an hour before closing. There were about 3 options with limited quantities still available. This made our decision much easier, though I would recommend going earlier in the day if you would like more options. We ordered 1 of each, this included a breakfast sausage brioche, a mushroom gravy brioche, and a buckwheat chocolate chip cookie. Everything was absolutely delicious and well worth the price. I love a good lox and this place delivers. My only complaint is that I wish the salmon portion was a little more generous but the flavors still pack a punch. Their pistachio croissant is flaky and filled with pistachios so can't complain there. The ladies taking care of us were so friendly and helpful. Tabor Bread has a great selection of bread and some delicious coffee. I usually wouldn't care a ton about this but after a few visits I wanted to highlight that their menu is very unclear! I had to just guess what I could order because it wasn't laid out at all! I asked my friend what they had to offer my first time because there was a long line and I didn't want to take too much time from the cashiers. After a hearty walk at Mt. Tabor we headed to Tabor Bread for breakfast. The everything bagel with lox was very filling. Plenty of salmon to share with my wife. Their coffee was also very good. Inside was very tight, as it was very busy and there is limited seating, but there is a a couple of tables outside in front, and a couple outside in the back. I ordered the Foccacia of the day, Buckwheat Chocolate Cookie and Mom's Chicken Sandwich. Everything was delish! They were out of ham and cheese croissants by 11 AM. The chicken sandwich was a bit bland. Tomatoes and a Spear Pickle on the side would have made it much better. However, the sandwich bread, house made, was very good! It would have benefited with more shredded chicken, though. They also put potatoe chips in it. If I would've known that, I would have asked to put the chips on the side...Just saying! Be aware that they put on a 15% tip on your tab, even if you get your order to go. my total came to $32.20 for those 3 items. I had to wait my own table... so much for working for your tips! The Shredded Chicken Sandwich (Mom's Chicken) was $17 alone! It was tasty enough, but not worth that much! I highly recommend any of the breads. Wow, thanks Tabor Bread; I came here this morning and now I have to sell my house and move within walking distance of you because you're SO good! Spectacular breads, sandwiches, pastries and coffees! My dining companion and I shared a breakfast sandwich which was on a glorious poppy seed bun, had aioli, microgreens, red onion, sautéed mushrooms and we chose avocado over the alternative breakfast sausage. It was a beautiful spring day so we decided to go for a walk at Mt. Tabor. I'd been dying to get my hands on some Tabor Bread, so we decided to stop here first. There was a small line, but it moved quickly and we were able to snag a table with no problem. My daughter and I both went with a garlic cheddar bagel with herby cream cheese. The bagels here are some of the better bagels in the city - nice and crispy on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside. The herby cream cheese had big chunks of dill and green onion, it was very flavorful with a little drizzle of olive oil. My husband went with their Belmont breakfast and bagel and seemed to really enjoy it. We also shared a sweet brioche which was half cherry and half lemon on a beautiful and fluffy brioche. Their pastry case is hard to resist, so don't! I also got their tiramisu latte, which was probably the best latte I've had all year (and I've had a lot). It had the perfect amount of chocolate and a little smear of mascarpone. Definitely worth grabbing a coffee here! We will definitely be pairing this spot with future Mt. Tabor walks. My husband and I went late on a Tuesday morning and were very surprised to see a line out the door. It must be good if there's a line at 11a Tuesday?! Turns out, it's just slow and understaffed. We waited 45 minutes for a bagel with lox. They also "oversold" the bagel flavor so we didn't even get what we ordered. There's almost a hint of cinnamon or cardamom, which I loved- the ratio of icing and donut was perfect too. FINALLY Portland has a naturally leavened bake shop (that isn't Ken's - no offense to Ken, but I prefer Tabor). I agree with Kim - I can indeed live on bread alone, and often do. I bake at home - a lot - and frequent renowned bakeries all over this star-spangled land (I go a lot of places) and Tabor Bread holds its own right alongside Hewn Bakery in Chicago and Tartine in Frisco (I'm from there so I can call it whatever I want, up to and including Frisco). I've quickly made Tabor Bread a regular stop on my weekly provisions pickups, and I stock up on loaves, bagels, and always by a little treat or two while there, whether in the form of a sandwich or a sweetie. The ambiance is pretty a-ok, too - if it's in the middle of a rush, which it often is, you'll have a hard time finding a place to sit and enjoy a coffee or toast; and you may wait in a very long line at times, but it's cozy and the people-watching is really spectacular. Plus, the yeasty bready smells wafting from the kitchen can't be beat. My only complaint is I do wish they'd get a bread slicer - I'm prone to slicing off my digits at home so would love to outsource this task to a precise slicing machine. read more

I finally got to visit Tabor Bread in their new location at the corner of Belmont and 45th! They've been there for a while now (since Jan 2023), but I had only visited them at farmers markets for the past little while. Their new spot is super cute. The prices at Tabor Bread kinda seem egregious because they include gratuity. Gratuity for what? I'm ordering a to-go order. Maybe they are trying to give their several workers a fair living wage, but there are two people working the front, several people working the back, no line on a Tuesday morning and 1 person eating a croissant at a table. No line, there was however a 10 minute wait for a bagel with cream cheese and butter. When I ordered the bagel per my wife's usual preference, the woman working the counter warned me not to get butter and cream cheese. This is a first. I've ordered a bagel at countless places this way and never been turned down but here we are. I ordered a croissant and pistachio morning bun for myself. The croissant is amazingly soft in the middle and crisp on the outside but there is a huge tell. It seems like they freeze their croissants after shaping which makes the outer shell flake into impossible bits. There are so many flakes they have formed a pile. This is a problem even in Paris and as I was once told by a Parisian taxi driver. Fresh croissants are hard to find even there. The pistachio morning bun is sweet from sugar and seems to have a syrup added to it but the flavor of pistachio is lost. The bitter parts of the pistachio are coming through, and here I was thinking this was going to be a sweet bun with all that sugar. Remember that bagel? It's here and it came in a box. Every pastry came in a paper bag, but the bagel in a box is something. It comes with a lemon wedge. Never seen that before. The bagel is soft and lacks a kind of chewy quality I'm accustomed to, from every other bagel I've eaten. 3 pastries and a bagel totaled almost $40. I'm getting tired of bougie bread. Baking is a working class job and working class people deserve good bread, but the prices here are out of reach for some. I search far and wide for good artisanal baked which brought me here based on a recommendation online. The listed prices are honestly fair for artisanal bread but for the price I expect perfection. The prices you see are not what you pay and that seems like robbery. There is a hidden mandatory gratuity fee that is most likely 20%. I don't mind tipping. It's part of American culture, but the pastries are falling apart as I eat them and I'm ordering to go which means no table service, all the worker did was argue with me about how to order a bagel and handed me a few pastries she gathered. I had to wait awhile for a bagel with cream cheese and butter, a rather simple order. How the croissants flake into bits is a huge tell. I wouldn't mind as much paying a mandatory gratuity if I knew someone was coming in early that morning, shaping and proofing the croissants a final time instead of freezing them. It makes it seem like the workers here want the reward without doing the hard work. If you have money to throw away eat here, but if you want to save your hard earned money and purchase artisanal pastries in Portland you can certainly find it elsewhere and get better quality. read more

After seeing Tabor Bread on socials for the longest time I was finally in the area and decided to drop in. I ordered a rosemary garlic sourdough bread, molasses cookie, and pistachio morning bun. My honest opinion is that Tabor Bread is not my cup of tea. Compared to LA and New York I was surprised the pricing was more than what I have paid in those markets. The 3 items, plus a mandatory 15% tip came to about $26 dollars. The rosemary garlic sourdough bread was overwhelmingly rosemary flavored. I was hoping there would be chunks of garlic, but to my dismay I think I saw 1 tiny sliver. The bread lacked the flavor I was hoping for. The pistachio morning bun might have been called a citrus bun. All I tasted was citrus flavoring. The inside had a few pistachio pieces but had it not been labeled you wouldn't have known what it was. The molasses cookie was the only item I liked. It was moist and had good ginger flavoring, but a little on the oily side. I'm glad I tried them because they've been on my list however their baked goods and bread did not align with my palet. I learned about Tabor through the Camas Country Mill website. Although I hoped to buy un-ground wheat (they have freshly ground flour for sale), this a place worth the frustrations to venture to. Parking: park a few blocks up and prep for the walk. Yesterday in the am rain, there was a line to the door but we got inside. Later the line extended down the block. I bought a butter croissant, almond croissant, ciabatta and a Flat White. The croissant is complex. It's a not a white crumb but appears to be made from whole wheat.
