We were on our way back home from Trek Fest (Yes, we are geeks) and wanted food. As we are inclined to do, we looked up several sorts. We settled on middle eastern, and this is where we ended up. We went pretty simple. Lamb Kofta sandwich, hummus and baba ganoush. Wow, everything was spectacular. The sandwich had tahini, onions and peppers on wonderful pita bread. The pita bread alone was worth the stop, we should have brought some home with us (did I mention they have a store there as well?) The hummus was smooth and understated and very good. Slightly different than I expected, but it was a good different. The baba ganoush was amazing. Rich and flavorful. This is now on our list of places to make sure we are passing through in time for a meal (its a big list). This was a wonderful find! read more

This place is the gold standard of Mediterranean food in the Iowa City area--while I tend to prefer Lebanese to similar regional cuisines (this place is Egyptian IIRC), this has been stellar from day one. Excellent service in restaurant or grocery, superbly prepared food (the chicken, folks--try the chicken and the fries), fair prices for good portions--this place deserves to be packed all the time. This is a go-to whenever I need comfort skewers. read more

Best place for full menu of Halal food. First thing first the staff was very welcoming and restaurant was neat and clean and actually very comfortable for family gatherings. We have order food which was brought to the table nice warm and fresh and the quantity justify the price and no compromise on quality. Really like to stop by next time I'm visiting the Iowa city. My husband and I ate at Tabooleh tonight. This is a combination store and restaurant specializing in authentic Mediterranean food. The manager and wait staff are very responsive and helpful. The restaurant seating is in the back. Guests walk through the store to get to the restaurant seating. The dining area is large with plenty of booths, tables and chairs. They can easily accommodate large groups. The tables have attractive decorative table clothes. A very large flat screen TV' was unfortunately turned on, playing an old James Garner, Rockford Files TV series from the 1980's. It would have been better if the sound had been muted. We ordered chicken swarma, grilled vegetables, chicken soup, pita bread and one lamb kabob. The soup was delicious! Very flavorful. The pita bread was warm, fluffy and very tasty. The grilled vegetables were very good except for the eggplant, which was a little tough. My favorites were the mushrooms, peppers, and zucchini. The chicken swarma was good, but a little dry. It needed more broth/ sauce. The rice was very good. The serving sizes were ample/ on the large size. The baklava looked tempting, but we were full. We are from out of town, but if we lived nearby we would frequent the restaurant for take out. The food is over all very goo The store, while interesting, is a little distracting. I've only had Tabooleh once (takeout), but what we had makes me want to go back for more. I had the Chicken Tekka entree, which had a unique creaminess to it that made it stand out. The seasoned rice that came with it paired perfectly with it, too. I also enjoyed the Baklava, but let my husband have the majority of it. The sweet, flaky pastry was just right. My husband spoke highly of the salad he had, too, but my sights are set on the other entrees and specialty sandwiches they offer. Without a doubt, we will be giving them another go. This place is so delicious. It's delicious in every way! The owner is the nicest restaurant owner I've encountered at any Mediterranean restaurant I've ever been too. They have this spicy cream of chicken soup that is so good I crave it at least once a week. I have an allowance just for it. Everything taste good ! It's a beautiful place with what looks like children's drawing on the ceiling. I thought this was so thoughtful. It's a calm clean environment with great energy. I ask the ancestors to continue allowing this place to remain open so people like myself can come here to feel better using the food. Please visit. read more

They are probably the best option for Mediterranean and Arab cuisine of the area. They have delicious kababs. They are always very kind. There is also a grocery store in the restaurant with lots of variety. By the way don't forget to order yogurt drink! read more

I liked the food, it was good but not great. Definitely not well salted. I got the lamb shank and my friends got the lamb sheesh kabob and beef kofta. However, the dessert- the creamy caramel. The best I've had in my life. Definitely go give it a try. read more

Tabooleh is a solid spot for sure. Their falafel with garlic dipping sauce is EXCELLENT--I'm not sure whether I prefer them to Oasis, but they're both on the same level in terms of quality. Their fattoush salad is good but not great (I don't plan to get it again). My husband got chicken shawarma and said it was amazing. Their prices are reasonable and match portion sizes/quality. Once we move past the pandemic, I'd love to visit for their buffet to sample a wider variety of food options, but it's nice to know that there is a good Mediterranean restaurant with an expansive number of offerings. read more

I just went to lunch here with my brother and husband. I don't have enough positive adjectives to use for how great this place is. It's been a long time since moving from California that I have eaten somewhere that I felt was exciting. Until now. I got the lamb chops and the other two got the combination plate. The food was fresh, delicious, and tasted homemade. The service was great. We were given free servings of rice pudding as well. Usually, I like this place. But this time I was quite disappointed. I ordered online for delivery. It arrived much sooner than expected, or predicted, which is ok. But half my order was wrong. I ordered the falafel appetizer and got the falafel sandwich instead. Again, the sandwich is fine if that's what you want, but it's a little hard to share. Ordered for delivery a few weeks back for the first time & I now regret not trying this spot sooner - it was seriously good! I've since gone back & tried several dishes. I've had the meat platter which comes w/ gyro meat , kebab, chicken schwarma, and beef kofta. The schwarma was a little plain for my taste, but everything else was amazing! I've also had the gyro, & moussaka - both great. I really want to try their lamb dishes now, my favorite meat, so it's nice to see they have several different lamb options. This place is AMAZING. Both food and service. Before social distancing my husband and I went there for a date night. The service was supreme, we enjoyed browsing the grocery store while we waited for the food to arrive to the table. We aren't "clean your plate" people, but we literally ate EVERY BITE. The customer service sucks. Instead of curbside delivery they were making people to go inside the restaurant and pick up. During coronavirus time no gloves and masks for the employees.
