PROS: the ambience is great - great lagoon views; very cool lighting (candle votive lights on the stone wall; large overhead hanging lights); lots of textures and wood elements. Good music - a saxophonist walked around and played live music for about 10 minutes. Amazing cocktails - very artistic looking and tasted great. We were seated on time, as per our reservation. The amuse-bouche (gazpacho) was delicious, as was the Table Set of olives, piquillo peppers, artichoke dip and pita bread.
CONS:
I ordered the capellini with clams (capellini con almejas). The dish came out with both clam shells and mussel shells. When I asked our waiter why there were mussels in the dish, he replied that he 'wanted to surprise me'??! I said that it was a surprise : ) since the dish is only supposed to have clams. He offered to change the dish, but since I like mussels, I told him no problem. However, when I worked my way through the clam shells, not one shell had a clam in it. No worries, I thought I'd check the pasta. There were 3 small pieces of clam in the dish. I called our waiter back over and said that I would please like a new dish since my pasta was mostly mussels and no clams. He accommodated my request, and I think the manager may have even brought out my replacement pasta dish. Unfortunately, the clams tasted funny/off (perhaps this explains why the chef opted to substitute mussels?), so I told our waiter that I didn't want the dish. When the waiter and manager asked if I wanted a different meal, I said no, they could please remove it from our tab since at this point my three companions had already finished their entrees.
Aside from being served a dish that I did not order - aka capellini with mussels), three things subsequently happened that made this dining experience a 'one star'. 1. The waiter did not remove my meal from the bill, even though I ate none of the dish. I caught the oversight when he gave us the bill and had to ask him to remove the charge. 2. We had asked the waiter to box up the rest of our dessert (cheesecake). It was a huge portion and we only finished half of it. There were several waiters assisting at all of the tables, and our waiter advised us that apparently one of them threw out our dessert, thinking that we didn't want it. When I asked the waiter why he was charging us for a dessert that they threw out by mistake, he made up some story about one of us telling the waiter that we didn't want it. 3. I saw one of the assisting waiters serve our bottled water to another table. When I advised our waiter that this occurred, he denied it.
Our waiter was very nice and started off the service quite competently. However, between the mistake with my entree (mussels instead of clams; although a new dish was sent out, the clams were bad); my entree appearing on our bill even though I didn't eat my meal; a waiter throwing out the dessert that we asked to be boxed up for takeaway; and the bottled water that was served to another table, this dining experience was a huge disappointment.
I would not recommend this restaurant for these reasons. read more
