On the hookah runway of Steinway Street, there is Taboo - a beautiful hookah lounge that stands out with it's beautiful red rose garland, gorgeous signage and upscale, trendy vibe that immediately draws you in.
I'm always down to try new places in this gem of a neighborhood and Taboo did not disappoint. Our waitress was easy going, friendly without being condescending and rude. She made good suggestions for drinks and hookah which we appreciated. The hookah was smooth, and coals got replaced regularly. The snacking options looked good and I like that they were all halal. The man behind the mission - the egyptian hookah master - came out to say hi and asked if the hookah was to our liking which we greatly appreciated. Our waitress also offered to bring us playing cards and we had fun playing uno here. I think that is really thoughtful and a great touch and the wait staff should definitely be encouraged to keep offering that to patrons.
The playlist was absolutely fire. I love Afro Caribbean, reggaeton, all the hits. This place is a great spot and what about that neon sign that says "Ended up in Steinway". I know that's right.
The only thing I would improve here is adding a bit more non-alcoholic beverage options that are more traditional, we would love to see Moroccan mint tea and some of the classics that other hookah lounges offer on Steinway Street. I would love to see more traditional food added as well like Shawarma fries or something of the like. Other than that, this is a very fine establishment that I plan on frequenting very much in the coming future. read more
