We had the brisket loaded fries, stuffed oven roasted chicken, green beans, side salad, and hushpuppies. They were ALL phenomenal and the chicken was the most tender chicken either of us have ever had! Our server (I've forgotten her name....Mariah?) was very attentive and sweet. The atmosphere was a bit elevated without being stuffy.....a great downtown vibe. We've already decided, if we are back in the area, this place is a MUST!!

She acted like this was her first day on the job (of any job) and not proactive. When asked for a Bloody Mary she failed to offer any options as published; "pick a spirit then mix and match signature mixes and toppings". When quizzed in depth about the menu, she was clueless. She mixed up our plates because she did not make note of who ordered what. Very slow to present the checks even with the restaurant @~25% capacity. - Seafood Gumbo's flavor was so bad, I could not eat more than one bite. - Meatloaf quality was the worst I've ever experienced. - Twice Baked Potato was very dry and baked far too long. - - - When presented with the check, Madison H failed to clarify that a tip @20% was already included due to our group size of six or more, which was tucked within the tax lines. This was overlooked and she received 30% more than she earned and deserved. - - - The Owner's procedure of have the waitstaff use a handheld credit card machine is fine, if they train the waiters to actually walk away after presenting the check, allowing the customer to review the details of the check and not be rushed. Madison H just presented to check and stood over the table, impatiently waiting to jam the machine into customers face. - - - The Owner also has the gall to charge an extra 3% for using a credit card! Be for real, this is part of doing business, price it in your pricing. Talk about nickel & dime'ing, WOW!!! STEER CLEAR!!! You have so many other greater options, even if you need to drive more.

Tasty chicken, for a Fish House…read more My wife and I recently met up with other family members to enjoy a tasty meal at J&J. While most everyone had different food choices, everyone appeared to enjoy their meal. Although we did get our food, the delivery was a bit slow. Ironically, it was the fish meals that were delivered last. However, the 3-piece Dark of Krispy Krunchy Chicken that I had was fantastic! The chicken arrived hot, and it was moist, spicy, and full of flavor. The legendary "Krunch" was a hit for me. The seasoned fries were also good, but a wee bit cold when they arrived. The rest of our group said their food was good too. Now they also had some good looking desserts, but I was too full to even try them - on this visit, maybe next time. If you're nearby, you may know how good the food tastes. If you don't know or if you're just passing through Bolivar, check them out if you want a good meal.

I ordered fried Catfish filets and fried green tomatoes [ I figured if I'm gonna eat fried food, I may as well go all the way :) ] Well, the tomatoes were fried perfectly, lightly breaded, my only complaint is that they were so over salted I couldn't finish it. The fish was a bit better, cornmeal breading again a bit heavy handed with the salt, but passable. I'm sure my pressure will top out soon..My guys both had cheese burgers and fries and said theirs were fine. Tomorrow I'll try another place for lunch

Since it was my first visit, I appreciated that our waitress took the time to answer questions and help me navigate the menu. She was friendly and attentive throughout the meal. I started with the onion petals, which were delicious and a great way to kick things off. For my entrée, I ordered the steak kabobs cooked medium. Unfortunately, they came out closer to well done. They still had good flavor, but I wish they had been a little more tender. The salad bar lived up to the reviews. It was fresh, well stocked, and definitely worth the trip. As a nice touch, they brought out a slice of strawberry cake for my friend's birthday. I stole a bite and can confirm it was pretty tasty. Overall, this is a great local spot with flavorful food and fantastic service. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because the steak was overcooked. I'd definitely come back and try it again.

Comfortable both, as requested and just the loveliest waitperson named Marlee, who was warm, welcoming, knew the menu and made some great suggestions, which I followed. When a waitress's face lights up when you order something, you know it's a good choice. Thoroughly enjoyed my Cabernet (nice pour), Shrimp Crostini and Salmon with about the best loaded potato I've had in years. Hubby savored the Snails and Trout and we each enjoyed the broccoli side. All of it was paced nicely by the charming Marlee, who checked back on us often enough to see we were happy and provide refills.
