We had the brisket loaded fries, stuffed oven roasted chicken, green beans, side salad, and hushpuppies. They were ALL phenomenal and the chicken was the most tender chicken either of us have ever had! Our server (I've forgotten her name....Mariah?) was very attentive and sweet. As an international traveling service and food industry critic while unbeknownst to the owner nor staff, the following is what I experienced: + Comfortable atmosphere. + Salmon Salad was selected by three within our group, which each enjoyed and were not fishy tasting. +/- Salad Bar was clean and ample, but no Blue Cheese. +/- Catfish was okay, but not the finest encountered. - Our Server (Madison H) was terrible! She acted like this was her first day on the job (of any job) and not proactive. When asked for a Bloody Mary she failed to offer any options as published; "pick a spirit then mix and match signature mixes and toppings". When quizzed in depth about the menu, she was clueless. She mixed up our plates because she did not make note of who ordered what. Very slow to present the checks even with the restaurant @~25% capacity. - Seafood Gumbo's flavor was so bad, I could not eat more than one bite. - Meatloaf quality was the worst I've ever experienced. - Twice Baked Potato was very dry and baked far too long. - - - When presented with the check, Madison H failed to clarify that a tip @20% was already included due to our group size of six or more, which was tucked within the tax lines. This was overlooked and she received 30% more than she earned and deserved. - - - The Owner's procedure of have the waitstaff use a handheld credit card machine is fine, if they train the waiters to actually walk away after presenting the check, allowing the customer to review the details of the check and not be rushed. Madison H just presented to check and stood over the table, impatiently waiting to jam the machine into customers face. - - - The Owner also has the gall to charge an extra 3% for using a credit card! Be for real, this is part of doing business, price it in your pricing. Talk about nickel & dime'ing, WOW!!! STEER CLEAR!!! This is one of Bolivars most elegant restaurants. It was our anniversary and we wanted to celebrate and this was the place. We had Kenlee as our server and she was excellent. Very attentive, friendly and engaging. Attention to detail was also present. The Rib Eye was amazing! So tender and juicy. Flavor was spot on. The salmon was so good and served as BLT salad. What a great combo. The gumbo was a great addition to the salmon BLT salad. This is a great find and definitely recommended for special occasions. read more

Services were outstanding with your traditional southern charm of servers. It's a very well appointed interior dining area and bar. Although the outside "Simon's" fabric sign was showing fraying and fading with a little flapping in the wind enough so I'd notice. We had eaten there twice before and although it is a small menu the food was always good. But this time it was not to be. I had the ribs which had been charred and very dry with a new coat of bbq sauce on them, but they were definitely the day before ribs. I ate one small piece and took the rest to go for my pooch at home, he did love them. My wife had the Salmon which was ok, but it was served on a large white plate with nothing else. ( she didn't want the rice) any way we probably won't be back. I feel it's like several restaurants in small southern towns where the actual cooking seems to be going downhill. read more

Stopped for a quick solo lunch. Rolls, strawberry salad, and cup of chili. Rolls were a 8/10 very good. Salad 7/10. Chicken was amazing. Chili. 7/10. Probably just personal preference differences. On the salad the chicken was as tender and moist as any chicken I have ever had! The pecans should be toasted and maybe candied. Chili. Not soupy but thick. I now watch salt levels closely. So this was kind of salty, two years ago I would have loved it. I also think my Choi is the best, but doubt others would like it :). The chili came with a hush puppy. It was a 8/10. I normally don't like hush puppies. My waitress was very nice an attentive. The location would fit right in Collierville or Germantown. The prices are probably a little high for typical Bolivar/rural dining. This isn't rural dining. Great job. read more

Bolivar is such a small town, one doesn't expect to find anyplace to eat outside of fast foods. Then one stumbles upon Simon's. Excellent service, lovely ambiance and wonderful food. If you happen to find yourself in Bolivar, TN, definitely make Simon's a must stop. read more

First of all, this is the third time I've eaten at this restaurant. Second, it's not getting better, and third, we were really disappointed. We didn't get a menu. The server told us that the buffet was "there" and the salad bar was "over there". Then she told us about a "Bloody Mary bar" and a "champagne bar". She did check on us often, though, which was good. So we walk to the buffet, picked a plate, and served ourselves. The plates were square and flat, and I almost dropped it. Dad finally had to help me so I didn't drop any food. All the food was cold, or not hot. Dad got fried chicken and it was tough. He literally had to tear it apart with his hands! We ordered water with lemon, and I should have known not to order the water. It had a very chemical taste. Of course, we're spoiled with our pure well water, which has no taste at all...Overall, it was not good. I know I keep saying this, but we won't be going back. read more

This is a gem in the small quaint town of Bolivar, but has a vibrant city feel. I took my mother here for a birthday dinner and had a pleasant dining experience. Our waitress, Destiny, was pleasant and responsive. The food was DELICIOUS. We offered the catfish and oven roasted chicken. The ambience was upscale with tranquil southern charm. Simon's occupies a beautifully restored building situated on the charming Courthouse Square of this historic town. It was a winner of the Open Table Diners' Choice Award in 2024 - a nice recognition for its excellence. Simon's is the heartbeat of Bolivar attractions. For example, after a satisfying dinner at Simon's, catch a film at the beautifully restored vintage Luez Theatre around the corner. Or, if free live music is your thing on a summer or fall night, mosey over to one of the stages set up in the square for a rocking good time. If you are a fan of historic architecture you'll be in heaven. Four of us recently had a Friday evening dinner at Simon's. We parked in the free lot next door and upon entering were immediately greeted by a hostess who offered a choice of casual bar or more elegant dining room seating. We picked a high-top in the bar so we could enjoy the action. It' worth a moment to admire the amazing interior design and stylish decor Simon's provides. We started our meal with hand-crafted cocktails and appetizers (they have a full bar, including beer on tap and a solid wine list). I highly recommend having a savory Old Fashioned and some Catfish Bites. The catfish was crispy outside and luscious in the middle - served with your choice of dipping sauces (try the Cajun Cream sauce for a little kick). I had a generous helping of the pulled pork barbecue plate for my main. Combine this with fries and slaw and it delivers the taste that the Memphis area is famous for. The meat is smoky and tender and really needs nothing, but I recommend putting the slaw directly on it and dressing with barbecue sauce for the full effect. My wife says Simon's brisket is the best she has ever had. For desert, we were treated to cheesecake that would have done a NY deli proud. Service is quick, friendly and knowledgeable. Prices are reasonable with a full range of options to fit any budget. If you haven't been to Simon's in Bolivar, it's a must! read more

Our first visit to Simon's was enjoyable. Our waitress was friendly and provided good information about the menu items. We chose the Philly cheese steak egg rolls for our appetizer, the small catfish dinner and the chicken penne creole pasta. Our meals came with a build your own salad, one side and delicious aromatic dinner rolls. The catfish was breaded with a course corn meal that was very bland. I added some hot sauce to battle the blandness. The fish had nice crunch to it. The zucchini, squash and onion side dish was delicious. I did not enjoy the coleslaw but the hush puppies were good. My husbands chicken penne with a creole sauce had a pleasant heat to it. He was not impressed with the raw tomato chunks on it. A few months back we received a flyer in the mail from this restaurant. I remember thinking, in the world of social media, what restaurants take the time to send flyers out and Simon's is a 45 minute drive from our house. Regardless, it was such a cute gesture and had me jumping on here and social media to further check it out and it was added to our list of date night places. Last night our schedules finally aligned to make the drive and check this place out and boy am I glad we did. They sold me online with their menu including hush puppies and a bleu and dirty martini, but as soon as you step in you're greeted with what appears to be a upscale, gorgeous restaurant in small town Bolivar and staff full of smiling faces. The charm doesn't end there. As soon as you're seated, a bowl of the softest rolls and whipped butter is placed in front of you. I had to use great restraint here, because they tasted like someone's grandmother had been in the back baking them all day and churning the butter by hand. We ordered our drinks and they were at our table within minutes. They have taken the dirty martini and elevated it, to where the greatest martini bars can't touch it. I didn't ask, but I'm pretty certain they make the bleu cheese olives there and should sell them by the to go container. They were absolutely wonderful! The food I would describe as southern with a dusting of upscale. Sadly, I didn't get a picture of our food because as soon as it hit the table we immediately started eating. As 2 people that travel for their jobs and eat all over this country, my husband remarked his steak was in the top 10 that he's ever had. Throughout our meal the atmosphere was so warm and inviting. Our drinks never even got to the halfway point before we were asked if we wanted another. Our waitress was kind and wonderful, but even staff that aren't assigned to your table will stop and greet you and ask if you need anything or how is your meal. Simon's is a gem of a place, nestled in small town, Bolivar that everyone should check out. No Memphis crowds and the hospitality is just top notch. We will definitely be back and I'm already dreaming of those rolls, homemade hush puppies that nobody takes the time to do well anymore but Simon's did and that amazing martini that rivals even my husband's. Based on strong Yelp reviews, I planned an early Valentine's Day dinner at Simon's for my wife and I, and we traveled from 30 minutes away to dine there. Even though the restaurant was not busy and we were seated quickly, it took our waitress 20 minutes to appear at our table. (The hostess dutifully and apologetically took our order when she saw how long we had been languishing.) We ordered a plate of stuffed mushrooms for an appetizer, and we both selected the garlic honey pork tenderloin for the entree. We each liked the sides we choose, but the pork tenderloin had the texture and temperature of shoe leather. Our mushroom appetizer, which was moderately tasty, arrived only after we were working on our entrees. Giving Simon's one last chance to redeem an otherwise forgettable meal, we ordered the bananas foster to share. It was a tepid, syrupy mess. I went to Simon's for the first time on Easter Sunday for Brunch. It was wonderful! Nice atmosphere, not too noisy or too quiet. They had an omelette bar that I was able to have made to order ( she even brought it to me instead of me having to wait!), waffle bar, hot bar with other breakfast items and your Easter fare including of course Ham and wonderful dressing, loaded mashed, green been casserole, etc.. Oh! Let's not forget the yummy desserts!! Mmmmmm The best part was the service and friendly attitude of the staff! From my server to the bartenders,to Chef Richard, every one aimed to please! Special shout out** When Chef Richard found out I was going to take food to a couple of people that both lived alone and were devastated by the tornadoes that hit last week, he donated 2 meals for me to take them!! Not a fan. My husband & mother-in-law said the brisket was horrible. Also the manager was a little rude. We had a party of 11 (9 adults / 2 kids) & we brought 2 happy meals for the little ones. We've done this in restaurants all over the country, (including Gordon Ramsey's in Las Vegas) and never had an issue. The manager approached us with a bad attitude & said their policy is no outside food or beverages are allowed so we were to never bring them ever again. I assured him that we were visiting from out-of-town & he didn't need to worry about us coming back. IMO, you should accommodate the children so the adults drop $500 in your establishment instead of going somewhere that offers a children's menu. read more
